UNIQUE YOUTH
When I say “littles,” I mean the cadets, which is the youngest age group (5-7) occupying the Boys & Girls Club. The cadets don’t get as much weekly time in the studio as other groups do, so each sessiontrulyhastocountforthem.Inthis clip is Amir, who was playing the drums forthefirsttimeaftersimplylearninghow to count 4-beats/bar. The natural talent is clear as day & he’s been looking forward toweeklydrumlessonseversince.
After we were finished with our drum lessons, Amir and the other two cadets in the session wanted to jam out before they had to leave, with a 3-part band karaoke performance of “this is what heartbreak feels like” by JVKE. This was super cool to watch and a great way for me to continue togaugetheinterestsofourcadets.

CHICAGO VISITS DETROIT
In late April/early May, I got the chance to to visit the Detroit N4N studio. During my time there, I had theopportunitytofacilitateoneofthe episodes for Detroit's 3-episode podcast series funded by a Taco Bell grant. I was able to develop the concepts for each episode, as well as conduct the first interview with the City of Detroit’s official photographer. BecauseIwasinfrontofthecamera,I didn’t’ get any footage of that. I, did, however, get the chance to sit on Duncansregulardailyprogramming.
MOTHER’S DAY SPECIAL
Last year for Mother’s Day, Sariyah and Hannah made a very special song in honor of the very special holiday. “Love U Mama” is the only song Sariyah has appeared on since she became a member, however the track has proven to stand the test of time. Similar to Tupac’s “Dear Mama,” this song has the same sort of impact. This year, Sariyah & Hannah chose to film a performancevideoofthemsingingthesong toshowtheirmothersonMother’sDay.
