ZIA JENAYE HEADLINES

June 11th was our Notes for Notes pre-summer Festival, headlinedbyZiaJenaye.Withopeningactsby members Chop God Nick, Baby Virgo, Hannah Banana & more, Zia blessed the N4N stage with a captivating 13-minute performance. After a week of rigorous in-studio rehearsals, Zia showed us the results of proper preparation and dedicated practice, giving us a show that the club members are still raving about today. She performed cover songs like “Heart of a Woman” by Summer Walker, as well as some of her original songs like “I Ain’t Worried” & “Put the Guns Down.”

Thepre-summerfestivalwasatreatfromstarttofinish. We opened the show with a drum performance by Nick, AKA ChopGod Nick. Showcasing his unique chops and steady grooves, Nick’s performance set the tone perfectly for the rest of the show. Like Zia, Nick also takes the proper steps in making sure a piece is show ready, throughpracticeandrehearsing. It’sbeenawhile since Nick performed in front of an audience, but he pushed through his nerves and left the whole room inspired.

SHOW OPENERS

As the show progressed, more youth members performed their original songs in front of the club. Though these performances were by a younger groupofmembers(ages7-10),theystillshowcased the importance of practicing, as they, too, rehearsed for weeks leading up to the show day. They performed some of their most beloved tracks amongtheBGCyouth,suchas“Hands2Ourselves,” “2025,” “Love U Mama,” and more. In this clip, Aiden AKA Baby Virgo is performing his most requested song, “The Bag.” Baby Virgo has set a goal to master his confidence for an even better performance at our end-of-summer block party performance.

CHICAGO FOOTWORK

Last year around this time, we were hard at work gearing up for the performance of our stage play “Westside Wonka,” a spin on the original Willy Wonka play, with a Westside Chicago twist. We incorporated several themes true to Chicago, including the dance form and music of “footworking.” We wrote and recorded 10 original tracks for the play. The youth missed those vibes and recorded a new footworking trackreleasingonSoundcloudthisFriday,7/11.
