UNIQUE YOUTH
CHICAGO SUMMER VOL. 3
The Chicago youth are officially 3 for 3 (really 4 for 4) with the summer EP’s. Their newest EP, ‘Chicago Summer Vol. 3’ is out now on Soundcloud. The project consists of four tracks featuring members, old and new. Artists include veteran acts such as Baby Virgo, Brookie Cookie & Hannah Banana, as well as newer members like Marquea AKA QuayQuay. This summer was different than previous summers, with it being my first summer as a part-time employee. Even with less time to program with the youth, we were still able to push out a solid project that reflects our short and sweet summer.

Zia Jenaye has been having one heck of a summer with back to back shows! One of the most notable shows, however, was last weekend at Lollapalooza. The John Walt Foundation, one of our partners had a small stage at Lolla, showcasing Chicago youth artists. Zia and her backup dancers put on a captivating performance in front of the Buckingham Fountain. On top of being a performer, Zia’s artist pass gave her the opportunity to meet and interview celebrities such as Bossman Dlow, Isaiah Rashad, Doechii and more. We are so proud of Zia. It can only go up from here.

Aiden (Baby Virgo) is turning 11 next month. He’s been a rapper with Notes for Notes since the age of 6 and he never hesitatestoletpeopleknowhowlonghe’s beenarapper. However, therappermadea decision this summer to expand his creativity through exploring beatmaking. He has set a goal to make at least one beat by Christmas break. In this clip, he can be seen working out drum pattern in Ableton.
Turning 11 in just a few days, Brooklyn (Brookie Cookie) is also a veteran rapper who has been rapping since the age of 5 or 6. Each summer, she joins us for summer camp and hops back in the booth without having missed a beat. In this clip, we were in the middle of an album wrap-up session. She was adding ad-libs to a song before mixing. Sincere, another OG member, is seen behind her, supporting her.

The multi-hyphenate artist, Baby Virgo was also adding finishing touches to a verse before it went off to the mixing stage. He’s acquainiting himself more and more with Ableton, learning how to navigate the DAW’s basic functions like recording and certain editing functions. This has made working with them so much easier for me, as I don’t have to as involved as I used to be with the song making process.
