CHRISTMAS SHOWCASE! After an entire 2 months of rehearsals with our explorers and juniors, they were finally ready to take the stage for Commonpoint’s Christmas show! This was an exciting opportunity for many of the youth who had never performed in front of an audience before. Parents and members of the community came out to see them sing and dance to an assortment of classic christmas songs. Click the link to see their performance of “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”!
CHRISTMAS FEAST/KARAOKE As things were winding down for the holidays, Commonpoint put together a great day of music, food, arts & crafts, and karaoke for the kids to let loose and get in the holiday spirit. The kids who love singing in the studio got a chance to perform in front of all their peers, and it was a great way to boost morale before ending the year off with our Christmas showcase.

My ultimate goal for my youth is to instill in them all required skills to produce, engineer, perform, mix, and master, to the point where they no longer need me to achieve whatever they dream of making. It’s a long road, but juniors Chris, Jay, and Jason are up to the challenge. Using a beat Chris produced, Jay engineered a session recording Jason on vocals while I sat back and watched the magic happen. Stay tuned for final song release!
New explorers Eli and Wander jumped at the opportunity to begin learning how to play the drums! When I started this job 10 months ago, I could barely play drums and guitar. Now I am pretty competent at both, and have been very excited to share my new skills with the youth in the studio. All three of us jammed on the drums at the same time to make a fat groove, and it let them focus on practicing just one pattern at a time in order to really absorb it. We reviewed latin beats, breakbeats, and disco four on the floor.
Had a really fun session where Shamar and I hopped on keys and drums to jam. Then Jayden hopped on the mic to freestyle over our jam. In this day and age, artists can get so caught up in turning every idea into a product to be sold, but many times art is just a moment in time to be experienced and that is just as meaningful. I am looking forward to sharing more sporadic collaborations like this in the new year, and getting some performances lined up for these talented young players!
