Our intern Jason helps send off our summer programming with an in depth presentation on production, recording, and the industry norms of online distribution. He assigned roles for each youth such as engineer, producer, artist, and A&R. Then we all got to work on a hook for a new song idea to put the steps to practice. Here he’s coaching Haiden and Gailonvocaldelivery.Itwasreallyinterestingtohear his insights on the creation process and how he defines his identity as an artist. JUNIOR SUMMER CYPHERS INTERNSHIP WRAP UP!

Julian and Sara hopped in the booth for some freestylesforoneofourjuniorsummercyphers.Once aweekfor30minutes,allthejuniorspassaroundthe mic and come up with raps/melodies on the spot. We doitasawarmuptogetcreativeideasflowing,andto strengthen our confidence as performers. Important to stay in tune with the fun when taking one’s first stepstosongwriting!

AMY- CAN’T BE SURE

Amy is an incredible guitarist and singer-songwriter who I had the pleasure of workingwiththispastmonth.Sheembodiesan old soul with her influences, drawing from alternative rock icons like Radiohead, the Gorillaz, and Jeff Buckley. We recorded an originalofherswherewedialedinsomereverbs andchoruseffectstoreallygetthetracktopop. Check out her single “Can’t Be Sure” on our Soundcloud!

SUMMER CAMP SQUAD FINAL WEEK!

We wrapped our Summer camp songwriting sessions with a catchy and infectious track by our youth featuring Heila, Caitlin, Zuri, Jordan, and Chassidy. EachdrumsoundontheAbletonpushwasassignedto a different person, and we had a really good time frankensteining this drum groove together that was an amalgamation of all our efforts. “When we in the studio, we gon’ make you rock!” Out on our Soundcloudnow

DANCE CLASS COLLABORATION

I met with Commonpoint’s dance instructor, Jade, who requested some mixes be stitched together for an upcomingdanceroutinefortheyouthinherprogram.She dropped by Notes for Notes and we built the mixes together, editing it to line up with the steps of the dance routine. We then had youth from her class perform the dance to make sure everything was in order. I had a blast gettingtocontributetoherprogram!
