A House for Christmas Mouse

Rebecca Harry
One snowy day, Mouse arrived in Treetop Forest. It was Christmas Eve, and her little nose twitched with excitement.
There was just one thing she was missing . . . a new place to call home!

Mouse knew that the perfect home needed to be warm and cosy, with plenty of food to eat and, most importantly, friends to share it with.

But it was almost Christmas, so she had to hurry . . .
It wasn’t long before Mouse came across a burrow.
Bunny was shivering outside.
“Brrr. I c-c-can’t light my fire,” she said.

“I can help,” said Mouse. And together they arranged the logs, added the kindling and started the fire.
Bunny’s burrow soon lit up with a warm, cosy glow.

But outside the light was fading.
“It’s nearly Christmas,” said Mouse, “I must find a home soon.” And off she went.
Soon, Mouse found herself standing in front of a den. Fox was at the window.
“I need to make a cake for a party,” he wailed, “but I don’t have enough time!”

“I
can help,” said Mouse. And together they quickly weighed out each ingredient, gave everything a good mix and put the cake in the oven.
Delicious smells wafted through Fox’s den, but outside the sun was sinking in the sky.

“I must go!” said Mouse. “I still haven’t found a home, and it’s nearly Christmas.”
Mouse hurried on through the snow, when she suddenly spotted a cave. Bear was huffing and puffing outside.
“I can’t hang up all these Christmas decorations by myself!” he sighed.

“I can help,” said Mouse. And together they hung up tinsel, paper chains and the prettiest string of Christmas lights.
It looked like the perfect place for a party.

“Will you stay for some cocoa?” said Bear. “Thank you,” said Mouse, “but it’s getting late, and I really must find a home before Christmas.”
