Bobby Baker: Drawing on a (Grand) Mother’s Experience

Legendary performance artist Bobby Baker first performed Drawing on a Mother’s Experience in 1988 as a 38 year old mother of two. A commentary on domesticity, the performance is based on Baker’s first eight years of motherhood and explores her fascination with the role and belief that it is largely undervalued by society. Now a grandmother to two granddaughters, and as determined a feminist as ever, Baker revisits her seminal work to highlight the subject, still relevant 27 years after her first performance. Bringing the production up to date, the piece offers a timely reflection on motherhood from an older and wiser vantage point.
