NU offers select master’s programs in an online format. Online programs are structured to allow students to complete coursework at a pace that best fits with their schedules.

Many of NU’s master’s programs are offered on campus. Our on-campus programs allow you to learn in an inspiring environment alongside your peers through engaging, in-person class sessions.

NU’s HyFlex programs are available for select oncampus master’s programs.

The HyFlex option allows students to participate in class remotely and engage with classroom discussion and study groups in real time from anywhere.

At Northwest University, we will equip students to become compassionate professional counselors who are able to integrate counseling theories with clinical skills. Graduates of our program work in various clinical work settings across the nation, including private practices, hospitals, and community mental health agencies.

Our program classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with periodic weekend classes possible.

Our campus is located in beautiful Kirkland, Washington, with nearby public parks, restaurants, and Lake Washington. Students in our online program are able to take all classes through our industry-leading electronic learning management system, with three on-campus residencies required.

We use state-of-the-art technology in preparing students through synchronous and asynchronous learning and committed support by faculty and staff.

EMBRACE DIVERSITY AND CULTURAL COMPETENCIES Students will learn in a richly diverse cohort environment. The program will prepare students to develop multicultural counseling competencies as students engage with cohort members and client populations from differing worldviews and backgrounds.

HOLISTIC APPROACH At Northwest University, we believe in preparing counseling students from a holistic approach.

Our students will be taught from various theoretical perspectives including humanistic, faith and spiritual integration, behavioral, and current evidence-based practices.

EXPERIENCED AND COMMITTED FACULTY Our diverse faculty integrates their experienced clinical work into the coursework. Many faculty are also licensed practitioners in the field and contribute scholarly work in the counseling field.

They have presented in national and global conferences and workshops. Students will learn and be mentored by the faculty throughout their time at Northwest University. Our students will receive weekly clinical supervision from faculty during their field training experiences.

CACREP Accredited Northwest’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is officially accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)—the gold standard in counselor education. This accreditation affirms the quality of our curriculum, the strength of our faculty, and the excellence of our student preparation.

Counseling Psychology Credits: 121 | On Campus

Our campus is located in the east suburbs of Seattle, within a mile of public parks, beaches, local markets, restaurants, and world renowned organizations.

We are dedicated to training effective, ethical, and culturally competent psychologists. We utilize the practitioner-scholar model, which focuses on the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical, theory-informed, evidence-based skills.

COMPETENCY The program prepares students for a variety of professional work settings: private practice, academia, health service psychology, authorship, consulting, research, and more.

SUPPORT The low student-to-faculty ratio (paired with a cohort model) increases the strength of mentor relationships, dissertation support, engagement, and community building opportunities in the program.

APA ACCREDITED Northwest University’s doctoral program in Counseling Psychology is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA). DISTINCTIVENESS During an international trip in the first year of the program, students immerse themselves in another culture to experience new environments and populations, become more culturally competent, and grow in cultural self-awareness.

Center for Leadership Studies

Great learners make great leaders.

The Center for Leadership Studies (CFLS) is home to Northwest’s interdisciplinary PhD and EdD programs in Organizational Leadership. These degrees prepare students to lead the leaders of our day. Designed for working professionals, the Center’s programs make it possible for PhD students to graduate in four years and EdD students to graduate in three years.

WHY CHOOSE OUR DOCTORAL PROGRAM? FINANCIAL SUPPORT

DISSERTATION COMPLETION

The CFLS offers four types of financial assistance, including transferring up to 12 credits of master’s courses into the program, a first-year grant, a matching discount for nonprofit employees, and a new student referral tuition credit.

Each semester features core, concentration, and dissertation classes, so students are working on their dissertation research and writing skills from day one.

TWO DEGREE OPTIONS The PhD focuses on scholarship, original research, and the generation of new theory. Our EdD is shorter and more practical, helping students apply existing research to problems in the field.

FOUR CONCENTRATIONS Students have access to four concentrations: Leading Ministry Organizations, Higher Education Leadership, Business Leadership and Consulting, and Interdisciplinary Leadership.

COHORT-BASED Our programs offer small, diverse cohorts.

Students learn alongside peers who encourage and challenge each other to grow.

HYBRID DELIVERY Designed for working professionals, our lowresidency program involves just two on-campus weeks yearly, supplemented by online learning.

NO GRE REQUIRED Our entering students already hold a master’s degree, so no GRE is required for admission.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP The Graduate Certificate in Christian Leadership is for those who wish to develop a biblical and theological framework applicable in Christian leadership. This program can be completed in as little as eight months.
