NW Network A NORTHWESTERN ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE PUBLICATION July 2020
Are You Feeling Lucky? A New Twist to a Classic Event
W
ere you heartbroken about the fact annual meeting was cancelled this year? Did you miss the excitement of the prize drawing? Well dry those tears, because Northwestern Electric Cooperative will be bringing a prize drawing event to the members live on Facebook! During the course of four weeks, NWEC will be crediting 128 lucky member accounts for a grand total of $10,000. The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. July 7, and will continue through July 31. Each Tuesday and Friday at 12:30 p.m. a member of the NWEC team will draw 16 names from one container and their prize totals from another. Each week $2,500 will be given away, resulting in $1,250 each day the event occurs. Each episode will have one $250 prize, five $100 prizes and 10 $50 prizes. Do you want to know the best part? You don’t have to do anything to enter. As long as you are an NWEC member with an active account, you will be entered into the drawing. While we encourage watching the drawings live, it is not required. If your name is drawn you will be a winner, regardless if you are watching the live feed or not. However, we strongly encourage

you to join in with the fun just like you would for our in person annual meeting. Normally, members would get to interact with the NWEC staff and employees at the annual meeting, and we certainly don’t want to take that opportunity away. So, each day of the drawing a different member of the NWEC team will give a brief introduction about themselves before the drawing begins. We hope you will enjoy this event, and we are excited to give this new twist to our classic event! If you aren’t following @nwecok on Facebook, then now is the time. Be sure to tune in, and best of luck to you! NW

Each month two member account numbers will be hidden somewhere in the issue. If you find your account number by the 8th of the current month, all you have to do is give us a call and your account will be credited for the amount listed. No numbers were claimed last month, so this month’s numbers are now worth $50 each. Happy hunting!

The Two C's
Cooperatives and Communities Go Hand in Hand
O
ne of NWEC’s most successful and exciting community programs is the CoBank Sharing Success program. The matching grant opportunity is aimed at supporting local communities and is made possible by NWEC’s partnership with CoBank—a national nonprofit cooperative bank owned by the rural American cooperatives it services. (996260001) NWEC is pleased to announce The Hope Center, Salvation Army, the Pregnancy Center and the Buffalo Regional Food Pantry as
this year’s recipients of the matching funds. Each organization will receive $2,500 from NWEC and $2,500 from CoBank. The Cooperative also gave an individual donation of $1,000 to the Ellis County Food Bank. Established in 2012, CoBank’s Sharing Success program doubles the contributions of its customers to the charitable organizations and causes they care about most. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, CoBank made a number of changes to the 2020 program including: • Increasing the matching
fund from $4 million to $5 million • Increasing the maximum match per customer to $10,000 • Decreasing the minimum eligible contribution to $250 • Increasing the number of application each customer can submit to four NWEC joined the program in 2014 and has awarded a total of $46,000 in grants to non-profit organizations in its services territory. Safety First, Fireworks Second Tips for a Safe and Happy Fourth
W
ith the month of July just around the corner, we can only hope that change comes with it. And with the year we’ve been having, let’s hope for good change at that! One thing we can count on each July, is a very unique holiday. It isn’t often we get to celebrate holidays with pyrotechnic devices, though it would make for an interesting Christmas if you ask me. This fourth of July, be sure to celebrate with hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream and all the summertime food your heart desires. This is a time for fellowship with family

and friends, but at Northwestern Electric Cooperative, we also want to make sure our members focus on safety. To ensure you have the best Fourth of July possible, we would like to remind you about a few important safety tips from The American Red Cross. Nothing says “Fourth of July” like a spectacular fireworks display! The safest way to enjoy this part of the celebration is to head to a local firework show. But, if you want to put on your own show at home, be sure to follow these safety tips:
ALWAYS FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON FIREWORKS’ PACKAGING AND NEVER GIVE FIREWORKS TO SMALL CHILDREN. KEEP A SUPPLY OF WATER CLOSE BY AS A PRECAUTION. MAKE SURE TO WEAR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR WHEN LIGHTING FIREWORKS. LIGHT ONLY ONE FIREWORK AT A TIME AND NEVER ATTEMPT TO RELIGHT “A DUD.” NW

See Any Big Changes? Many more new and exciting changes are on the way! I've made the decision to retire in September, 2020. I would like to introduce you to my replacement, Lyndsey Harvey, the new Member Services and Communications Coordinator for NWEC. Lyndsey will be bringing a fresh new look to the cooperative, but as always, our core focus will remain on providing our members with safe and reliable electricity for years to come.
