YOU BELONG NORTHW

AT WESTERN

COURAGE. FAITH. WISDOM.

Northwestern students make a difference Washington Monthly ranks Northwestern 7th among the nation’s top baccalaureate colleges based on contributions to social mobility, civic engagement and service.

As a Christian college, Northwestern offers an education that will expand your thinking, your connection to God, and your desire and ability to speak up and make real change happen in the world. Ours is a one-of-a-kind community. And you’ll find it’s one of the best places to discover where God wants you to go from here. You’ll be prepared for a great career. But life is more than a job, and you’re more than an employee. You might also be a spouse, parent, or church or community leader. Northwestern will prepare you to make a difference in those roles too.

College should be more than just a place to get a degree. It should be a whole education for your whole life.

Career preparation “I started my career at a firm in New York, and many peers in my hiring class were from well-known East Coast schools. Over my two years there, I consistently felt I was better prepared than most of my peers.” —Hans Vander Plaats, Des Moines, Iowa

Community “The community I’m surrounded with at Northwestern is unbeatable. I feel like I have another family here, and I love reconnecting with them each fall. I’ve formed

deep relationships and developed lifelong friends. Whether it’s making snow angels with friends or road tripping with my team for nationals, I have memories I’ll never forget.” —Lauren Spranger, Trenary, Michigan

Valuable investment “My parents started to pray for a specific number that would fit our finances and, sure enough, God supplied that number through scholarships and Northwestern’s generosity. Both my parents and I can truthfully say the investment is worth it and Northwestern is the right place for me. We are so thankful God led me to Northwestern and has provided ever since.” —Ashley Payne, Prescott, Wisconsin

Strong academics “The summer after my freshman year, I had an internship at my senator’s state headquarters. It was an amazing experience getting to talk with powerful political leaders, sit in on meetings, and join the functions of the senatorial staff.

One of the primary reasons I was granted the internship was because they were impressed with the research skills I gained at Northwestern, so they created an extra spot just for me.” —Jesse Walnofer, Tea, South Dakota

Spiritual growth “My classmates and professors have shown me what it looks like to trust and follow Jesus.” —Jahdai Dunk, Whittier, California

LISTEN. RELATE. IMAGINE. The experts say a lot of great things about Northwestern. We’ve received a long list of awards and recognition for things like our excellent academics. Popular, personable professors. Students’ commitment to volunteerism. Unique study abroad programs. Northwestern has been on exclusive lists of the safest colleges. The most beautiful campuses. And Orange City is one of the nation’s Top 10 Christian College Towns.

Even more important to us, though: Our students love us. When it comes to evaluating all Northwestern has to offer, they’re the real experts.

Professors, mentors “The beautiful thing about Northwestern’s professors is they focus on more than just teaching a subject; they’re also interested in students as people. Professors are as excited about

students’ faith development, maturation and expansion of worldview as they are about their field of expertise. That’s an amazing environment.” —Graham Kinsinger, Indian Wells, California

EXPLORE. QUESTION. DISCOVER. Who you learn from matters. At Northwestern you’ll be taught by brilliant scholars. Accomplished scientists. Gifted artists and performers. Committed Christians. Our professors are at Northwestern because they love college students. They’re inspired by your curiosity and the potential they see in you. That’s why they’ll push you to work hard. They’ll expose you to new ideas. Teach you to question yourself and others. Who you learn with matters too. At Northwestern, you’ll be surrounded by peers who are excited about learning and care about following Christ. You’ll learn together. In classes. While living in our residence halls. And through friendships forged on co-curricular teams and clubs. Who you learn for matters the most. At Northwestern, we learn for God. Because using our minds is a way to worship God, and exploring the world He has made is an endlessly fascinating calling.

SEEK. GROW. SERVE.

Faith in action If serving others is important to you, you can keep doing that at Northwestern. Campus ministry teams package food for victims of natural disasters and raise awareness and money to combat problems like homelessness and human trafficking. Northwestern students’ exceptional volunteerism has even earned national recognition.

D-Groups More than 400 students are involved in discipleship groups, which meet weekly in residence halls and campus apartments.

Spiritual impact On a recent survey, 80% of our students said Northwestern has had a significant impact on their Christian faith.

No matter where you are in your faith journey, there’s a place for you at Northwestern. The whole education we offer is for your heart and soul too. This is a place where your beliefs will be nurtured. Your character will be shaped. Your faith will become more real. It’ll happen in classes. Through small-group discipleship. On short-term mission trips that will challenge your faith and deepen it at the same time. We believe learning is worship, so worship happens everywhere all the time on campus. But we also set aside time to worship together in chapel. It’s the only time during the week when nearly the whole campus community is together, and our sole focus is praising and listening to God.

Spring service Each spring break, more than a dozen teams of students led by faculty and staff advisers travel throughout the U.S. and internationally on short-term mission trips to serve with and learn from others.

Learning for life A Northwestern education will prepare you to trust, love and worship God; engage ideas; connect knowledge and experience; and respond to God’s call.

Everything’s an education College is more than classes. At Northwestern, learning also happens as you live together. Perform together. Play together.

CHRISTIAN. ACADEMIC. COMMUNITY. Northwestern College is a Christian academic community engaging students in faithful and courageous learning and living that empowers them to follow Christ and pursue God’s redeeming work in the world.

That’s our mission. You can be part of it.

FUN. FRIENDS. BELONGING. This isn’t just a campus. It’s a community. Students don’t just stay here. They live here. Northwestern’s exceptional community starts in our residence halls. Unlike other colleges, where freshmen-only dorms are the norm, at Northwestern upperclassmen leaders choose to live in the residence halls. They stay because they’re eager to share their experience with you. To mentor you. To maybe become a friend for life. Need to get out of your room? Join the crowd. There are dances, sporting events, concerts and plays, and campus-wide games like our annual Clash of the Classes. Or get caught up in a well-loved Raider Nation tradition like Hospers Hall’s cardboard-and-duct-tape battle or the neighboring hall’s Coly Olympics.

Whatever you like to do for fun, you can do it here—and more.

90% of our students live on campus. Sing, play, act! Make music. Be dramatic. All students are welcome to audition for any of our music ensembles or theatre productions. Northwestern has numerous vocal and instrumental ensembles, and our active theatre season includes roles for actors as well as artists who like to design and create lighting, sound, scenery and more.

Join in Explore your interests and leadership skills in a student club. Our many opportunities range from Nurses Christian Fellowship to Rugby Club and La Mosaic.

In a survey, 94% of Northwestern freshmen said they felt a sense of belonging right away during their first semester.

There are often games of disc golf and gennis (golf played with a tennis ball) happening on the campus green, and intramural options include basketball, flag football, kickball, racquetball, softball, spikeball, tennis, volleyball and wallyball.

If you’re athletically talented and have a competitive spirit to match, this is your team. The Red Raiders set records and bring home championship trophies. We like winning—but we care more about coaching student-athletes to develop strong character. We want you to become disciplined, resilient, hard-working, and a great player on any kind of team long after you hang up your red-and-white uniform.
