ZWB The Brand: Women in society today are encouraged not to differ from the norm, wear ‘flattering’ clothes help to fit in, yet lack the ability to provide any functionality. ZWB as a brand is challenging this lack of practicality as well as the outdated notion that women’s clothing concerns visuals alone. Aesthetics are permanently chosen over function with no evidence to suggest that they are mutually exclusive. ZWB looks at how clothing can encompass both the practical and conceptual desires of women today. ZWB is a womenswear brand that enhances movement and flexibility, exploring the everyday demands of women, with the ambition to entwine comfort and concept to create visually unique pieces, without restriction. By challenging the way in which function and shape can be combined, ZWB creates dynamic clothing; where crucial, yet subtle changes allow for flexibility that lasts all day. There is a strong emphasis on sustainability with all materials used in production sourced from ethically sound fabric houses. As a result, durability and practicality are integral factors of the clothing ZWB creates. The key message that ZWB conveys is that this is not a backwards step for visually and conceptually engaging garments, but as a brand aims to incorporate a purpose to design to suit the changing demands of women in the 21st century, by creating long-lasting, timeless garments. Moore, Hepworth Collection A/W22: This initial collection is an opening into the way in which ZWB designs, heavily influenced by shape and form. I looked at combining abstract body shapes inspired by sculptural artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, expressing fluidity using different drawing techniques to re-create undaunted, soft silhouettes that express the beautiful contours that make up a women’s body. The collection aims to capture a sense of movement and flow, looking at unique ways to incorporate the shapes, from subtle stitch lines to bold sculptural features. Designing timeless garments is something that I have greatly considered when producing the collection, each look having a distinct attention to detail, many pieces finished with unique techniques, from picking to blanket stitch to improve the durability of the garments. All ZWB pieces are made using end of line, re-purposed fabric, recycled trims or from ethically sound fabrics houses, as I want this and any further collections to be as sustainable a possible.
