sisterhood. sisters. mothers. daughters. grandmothers. aunties. nieces. cousins. girls. girlfriends. friends. best friends. lovers. strangers. completely different, yet all the same. your tribe. your gang. your people. all united in a sense of love and alliance. this shared bond of womanhood, of belonging, of being a part of something. it’s not always easy and peaceful, there’ll be arguments and shouting and angry texts and passive aggressive tweets, but it’ll always be there. it’s there in a denim mini skirt borrowed for a night out. in a band t-shirt stolen for a quick trip to the pub, never to be seen again. in an out-of-budget satin dress passed around from person to person until it’s had it’s wear. stealing your mums’ best heels for a house party then hiding them in the back of your wardrobe after ruining them running across the garden for a sneaky cig. borrowing your sister’s new jumper then claiming it’s still in the wash for weeks on end until you can take it back to uni with you. realising you haven’t seen your favourite t-shirt in a while then finding it weeks later under your mate’s bed, still unwashed after a festival. your auntie turning up with a binbag full of clothes after a wardrobe clear out and finding gucci belts that were passed down to her when she was the same age from an old woman who lives next door. finding a skirt that’s so see-through that you can deffo see your bum, “but dad it’s SUPPOSED to look like that!” visiting when you’re 15, 16 and learning about the power of black eyeliner for the first time and making it ‘your thing’ for the next 3 years. raiding your best friend’s wardrobe before a first date because it absolutely has to be the perfect dress and you certainly don’t own it. sisterhood is one thing and its everything. an integral part of growing up and an even bigger part of being a grown up. you grow and it grows with you. it’s there for the clothes, the hair, the makeup, the makeups, the breakups, the first date, the first kiss, the first you know what, the first day of school, the last day of school, the last song in the club, the last orders at the pub, the last train home. it’s there when you need it and even when you think you don’t. it’s got your back, no matter what.
