Ella Clasby Against the Grain
Against the Grain promotes interaction between people and materials. By utilising sandblasting, the collection accentuates the characterful grain pattern and distinctive colour of Douglas Fir, sparking new interest and celebrating the material’s inherent qualities. Tactile surfaces invite us to touch, and encourage us to engage with the materials that surround us.

MONOLITHS
Monolith One is an ambient table lamp that functions as a vessel for awe and contemplation. Monoliths is a project that explores the context, materiality, lighting and form of monolithic objects and places. The final outcome is a distillation of these considerations into a stark, homogenous construction where steel meets light.

Sculpted Modernity
This project was driven by the exploration of texture and how it can be applied in contemporary furniture design. Made from ash, the cabinet’s simple form, natural material and clean lines all work harmoniously to frame the subtle hand carved surface.

Recycled Plastic Lumber
A project exploring recycled plastic lumber and its application in sustainably-minded furniture design. Material explorations identified the strengths, weaknesses, qualities and potentials of the material. Combined with sustainable design strategies (such as designing for disassembly) these insights have informed the design of a bench, stool, and chair.

Inspired by Soft Minimalism, the Serene table lamp combines ash, brass and linen to create a striking textural contrast. The warm, dimmable, diffused glow illuminates the materials and creates a calming ambiance. Designed with sustainability in mind, the lamp is easily disassembled for repair or recycling.

The Encircled Collection
Reimagining Female Empowerment in Design
What would the world look like if women designed specifically for women? The Encircled Collection draws inspiration from empowering imagery of goddesses, deities and halos to explore this scenario. The designs feature white circular forms and ornamental detailing to centre the user. Creating positions of power, intimacy and elevation by framing the female body.

The Chew Chair
The Chew Chair takes inspiration from the furniture of the Ming and early Qing dynasties, combining forms from this period with the Western concept of a lounge chair. Adapted for modern materials and production techniques, the chair aims to reinvigorate a traditional design language.

Stargazer
Stargazer draws inspiration from a diverse range of aesthetic sensibilities, creative philosophies and craft practices. The form was developed by hand-shaping timber—an approach to furniture design informed by a background in surfboard making. It is an investigation of how craft processes and material finish can define the design of objects.

Temporary ≠ Impermanence

With renting often comes a looming sense of impermanence, living in a space that isn’t yours and feeling compelled to engage in a throwaway material culture. This project aims to tackle these feelings, navigate the shortcomings of the current furniture market for renters and develop objects that can provide a surer sense of ‘home’.
