Welcome to Ashley and Andrew’s amazing Allure on The Lake wedding in Chesterton, Indiana. I arrived at The Allure on The Lake a few hours early to get photos of the space. The tables were already set up when I arrived. That always makes my job of getting details easier. The florists from Shadow Box Flower Market in Valparaiso had put most of the flowers out already. Ashley wanted very simple decorations on the tables and the vision was such a good fit for the space. The large windows flood the main reception hall with natural light and complement a minimalist theme perfectly. Each table had a unique set of jars and bottles with a touch of color. As a photographer it’s always fun having so many little details to capture. When Ashley and her bridesmaids arrived we did a few quick photos in the amazing bridal room as they got ready. Several venues in Northwest Indiana have upgraded their bridal suites recently, and The Allure on the Lake has done an exceptional job in their space.

Ashley and Andrew had a sweet first look in the main reception area before taking a few formal photos. The rustic bar area added to an already photogenic group of people. The ceremony was outside right by the water. It was a warm day but a gentle breeze really helped a lot. After the ceremony we had a few minutes to capture some family photos and some more photos of Ashley and Andrew together. I knew in advance I wanted a few photos of Ashley on the rope swing, thankfully she was looking forward to those as well. During the reception we managed to sneak outside for a few night photos. The area by the water is wonderful for cocktail hour as well as night photos. I stayed late into the evening to get enough of the crazy fun dancing. I actually love the party time at weddings too! Straight Groovin’ Productions kept the dance floor packed all night and there were several fun dances to capture candids.

ADVICE TO ENGAGED COUPLES To all those newly engaged couples out there, find a photographer that fits your style and will help you feel comfortable in front of the camera. The way that we do that is we include the engagement session in every package. As a photography team, we want to capture our clients with their most natural mannerisms and most genuine expressions. We find the best way to accomplish this is for us to become acquainted with them ahead of time. Doing an engagement session helps us learn how to help you feel the most comfortable in front of the camera the day of your wedding. That way, in addition to all the emotions of your special day, you are also not having to get used to us and the camera. Instead, we are already familiar, and this takes the stress off when the big day arrives.

WEDDING DAY Bill and Claire had their wedding at Uptown Social in Michigan City. This is the first time we shot a wedding outside at Uptown and it couldn’t have been more perfect! They were also the first couple to “Lock Their Love” on the fence surrounding Uptown Social, as a symbol of unity and steadfast love. With the distinct red door and beautiful venue, there was no lack of photo opportunities. To finish it all off, Bill and Claire danced the night away, in the center of the recently renovated ballroom, originally a church built in 1867, surrounded by friends and family.

Andrew & Corinne THE BRIDE'S PERSPECTIVE
DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY VISION Our overall shared wedding vision was “industrial meets overgrown enchanted garden.” We opted for a venue that had a masculine feel and softened it with candlelight and fresh florals. To incorporate our relationship, we added touches of how we met and our favorite things to do together through the guest book and late night snack. We left our ceremony venue untouched, so that every time we attend mass, the church looks just like it had on our most special day. When we arrived at our reception venue we were blown away by how well the vision in our minds translated to the decor! Merry Me Events even surprised us by creating the lounge of our dreams for added soft seating near the dance floor. It was such a sweet way to make sure our older guests had somewhere comfortable to sit, while feeling like they were still involved. Elegant touches of gold were spread throughout the decor, making our most important items stand out in white gold and silver: our wedding bands and my grandparent’s silver cake forks. DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY I will never forget hearing the church bells, knowing that was my signal to line up and begin the walk down the aisle towards my future husband. I have never felt more beautiful in my life than that day, looking ahead and seeing Andrew waiting for me at the end of the aisle. We couldn’t stop crying

the entire ceremony because we were so overwhelmed by how many people came and truly have never felt so loved and celebrated! We would not have been able to create such a beautiful, special day without the support and help of our amazing parents and the staff at Merry Me! ADVICE TO ENGAGED COUPLES Get a wedding planner and choose an indoor wedding venue with all inclusive packages! Choosing The Armory meant there was a lot of convenience with our rentals because we didn’t need to get things like tables and chairs, giving us more money in our pockets to spend on food, florals, and the bar. On a day that was one of the hottest, entering into a venue with ac and a roof over our heads, meant that all of our guests were comfortable, giving us peace of mind. Having an ENTIRE team of designers attend my wedding meant that there was no detail forgotten. Not to mention, we were able to book our first choice photographer and DJ, who also helped make sure we got every picture we wanted, every song played, and helped to keep our timeline running smoothly. We can’t say thank you enough to Cher and all of the Merry Me team, Megan Mars and all of the Navarre staff, Cat and Megan (our amazing photographers), Mya (my makeup artist) for making me feel more beautiful than I ever have, and Derald (our dj) for tearing up that dance floor!

We headed to Weko Beach, our usual spot, at the end of March. As soon as we pulled in it started snowing and blowing. We tried to walk down to the beach but couldn’t because of how windy it was. Bart decided to have use go down to the river behind the dunes by the camp ground. He told me we were going to take some pictures because I always complain we have none together. Setting up a tripod by the bridge, I thought we were posing for pictures, but he had actually hit record, capturing the entire heartfelt proposal. Despite the snow and wind, it was absolutely perfect!
It was scorching hot! One of those summer days that hit 90 degrees. However, it unfolded exactly as we envisioned. Cherry Road Homestead exceeded our expectations with the stunning florals on the ceremony stage. The decor was spot on as planned. A brief rain during dinner turned out to be a blessing; it cooled everything off since nobody was outside. We arranged some outdoor games like yard Jenga and mini-golf, which everyone seemed to love! The overwhelming love and joy from our guests led to an incredible surprise: unbeknownst to Bart and me, our bridal party and guests pooled together, extending the celebration by paying the DJ and bartenders to stay longer because nobody wanted the day to end.

Designer Burns Special Events is truly a one-stop-shop when it comes to planning your wedding. Not only do they help you create your wedding design dreams, but they design and execute divine floral as well. For this stylized shoot, Burns choose a neutral color palette with pops of hunter green and gold. The amber stained glassware looked beautiful on the marble tablescape. The sequined sweetheart table linen was simply eye-catching. The lounge area that they designed felt so relaxed and warming near the beautiful stone fireplace.
Food South Bend Country Club's chef prepared two enticing entrées for this stylized shoot. First, an 8 oz hand-cut prime filet with peppercorn sauce, served with roasted redskin potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
