Spring is one of our favorite times of the year here at TheWeddingMag. With new pops of color in floral and warmer temperatures to get outside, it’s such a hopeful time of the year. Alaina knew the exact vibe she wanted her wedding to have. The words elegant, modern and chic come to mind when I think back about it. I really enjoyed meeting her and her mom as we planned what the day would look like.

When the day finally arrived, it was the exact image that Alaina painted at our initial meeting.

She looked just like a princess when she stepped into her perfectly fitted, Demetrios gown. The whole wedding party looked stunning. This fairy tale wedding was amazing in every way and the venue Alaina and Dan chose was perfect for their happily ever after. Although the newly renovated ballroom was lovely on its own, it really came alive as we carefully placed each floral centerpiece.

Each vendor did an amazing job turning a wedding dream into a reality. The photographer and videographer took extra care when capturing the details. I still cannot get over the details. Perfection!

Spring is officially here and we are so excited to start planning our spring time weddings! Every year, pastel colors seem to be the popular choice between brides with spring weddings so we wanted to show you how you can incorporate the Pantone Color of the Year, Classic Blue, with the brightest color there is‌yellow!

Are you spending hours on end looking on Pinterest trying to find the right color palette for your wedding but nothing seems to really resonate with you and your soon-to-be husband? Want something different than your best friend’s wedding from last year? Polly from Poppies is an expert in all things design and knows how to pair colors that complement each other well.

When we chatted with Polly on this photo shoot, she came up with the idea of using the color Classic Blue and pairing it with sunshine yellow! Polly's design-forward thought process on combining these two colors turned out to be pure gold. Reminiscent of an English countryside garden in the spring, these colors generate feelings of awe, beauty, and elegance all at the same time.

The stunning tablescape created by Poppies and Burns Special Events gave an English country garden vibe! Burns Special Events provided touches that really pulled this theme together with their farm table, gorgeous rustic-looking chairs, and china. We also loved the bold display of hanging greenery as it brought the outdoors in at Knollwood Country Club. The blue and white oriental vases added such beautiful detail to the table. The yellow tulips and lemons created a fresh and inviting ambiance.

Additional flowers that Poppies used in the floral arrangements were white hydrangeas, yellow tulips, yellow roses, white roses, forcythia branches, Italian ruscus, willow and eucalyptus.

Our model, Emily Mishler, looked absolutely stunning in this beautiful V-neck gown from Simply Yours Bridal & Formal Wear. This gown was so meticulously detailed that one look at it simply takes your breath away! We loved how the bottom layer of the gown had a champagne color but the top layer was this beautiful white lace detail.

Simple and sweet can make more of a statement than anything else and that is exactly what Sweet-Em’s Cake Shoppe created for this photo shoot. We loved the beautifully made all white cake with small delicate floral detail designs. The yellow floral and blue ribbon tied the cake in perfectly with the dÊcor!

Emily's half-up hairstyle with loose curls, created by Salon J, really showcased the elegance of her open back gown. The small curls cascading down her back looked so timeless and beautiful.

Ashley Troxel did an amazing job on Emily’s makeup by keeping it very light and neutral but giving her a pop of color on her lips! The slight pink blush on her cheeks gives that “flushed” illusion, keeping the appearance looking youthful and radiant.

Brandon & Amelia THE BRIDE'S PERSPECTIVE

Describe Your Engagement Brandon proposed at Tabor Hill, where we went for my 24th birthday.

He had a photographer hiding in the vineyard taking pictures of the proposal and our immediate family was waiting inside for a celebratory dinner, which is something we had talked about months before and he made it happen! It was so meaningful and sweet I could not have asked for a more special day. We had an awesome engagement party at Ruth’s Chris, which was so fun to decorate and plan! Brandon and I spent a lot of time with our Pastor and marriage mentors who were so wonderful and helped prepare us for the new life we were creating together. Our engagement was only 5 months long and came with an extremely busy schedule, but it was so full of love and time spent with the people we care about most!

Describe Your Wedding Vision Our wedding vision was almost entirely created by my matron of honor, Kelsey, who is an Event Specialist and my mom, Amanda Rutherford, who owns Burns Special Events with my dad. My mom told us pieces of her vision which was an extremely elegant and a completely unique look, which I loved. My mom, Kelsey, and I worked together and created a beautiful blush, rose gold and green wedding palette that ended up being the most amazing design. I asked my grandma and her best friend to be our Flower Grannies, which added to how special and unique our day would be! My dad also had an awesome contribution to wedding planning, he booked professional cigar rollers to make cigars in the special cigar lounge at the reception.

Your Advice to Engaged Couples A short engagement was nice, but there are also tensions that come with it. I had difficulties with my dress and finding certain vendors that weren’t already booked. It is also a lot of meetings, fittings, trials, etc. in a short period of time, so we had multiple meetings per week. We highly recommend having family help, hiring a planner/coordinator, choosing a great photographer and videographer, an awesome dj, and creating a list of potential vendors beforehand (if your engagement is short). We encourage you to try marriage counseling or marriage mentorship, it is great to help couples prepare for joining two lives to become one in marriage. We also recommend choosing or designing your rings together. We worked with our friend Emily at J.R. Fox, who helped us create a custom ring and it was such a meaningful experience!

Describe Your Wedding Day Our wedding day was gorgeous! We took a chance with an outdoor ceremony in November, but the day ended up being full of sunshine and there was no rain or snow! The Burns' team did really amazing work that brought the wedding vision to fruition. We were in complete awe of how beautiful everything looked! The day flew by quickly. We were glad we had a photographer and videographer who captured everything so we can look back and enjoy all the details and moments of the day. Our vendors worked together to make sure that Brandon and I, as well as our family and guests, were able to enjoy our wedding with no worries and have a wonderful day celebrating with us!

We were really inspired by the versatility of the jewel toned color palette and wanted to show how these rich colors can be used in many different ways. This photoshoot truly calls to the gypsy soul.

The Pavilion at Sandy Pines set the perfect scene for the shoot with its luscious seasonal greenery that perfectly complemented the rich colors of the wood florals that we used.

We really wanted to show that the rich jewel tones could be used with a variety of bridal looks from a classic timeless dress with a chic updo, to a traditional African bridal gown and head dress, to a stunning beaded floor length evening gown coupled with a romantic loose braid. Each look was paired with a bursting bouquet of hand crafted wood florals in regal jewel tones.

The tablescape was decorated with gold flatware and stemware to complement the gold compote bowls of the centerpieces and the gold candlesticks adding a luxurious feel to the setting overall.

We had an incredible group of vendors come together to showcase our talents. It is always gratifying when your wedding vendors can work together to create the wedding of your dreams.

Evan & Julie THE BRIDE'S PERSPECTIVE

Describe Your Engagement Evan and I love hiking and nature in general. Each year, we try to take a trip with my best friend and her boyfriend. In May 2017, we all met up in Breckenridge, Colorado, and decided to take a trip to Aspen to hike at Maroon Bells. Evan and I were posing for a picture by the lake, and I was starting to walk away so we could switch and take pictures of our friends when Ev said "You know, this would be a great place for a proposal." I was actually kind of annoyed, because I genuinely had NO IDEA that he was going to propose, and I wasn't expecting it for another year or so. I was rolling my eyes at him and was about to walk away when he got down on one knee. I yelled some profanities with a "YES!" mixed in somewhere. Definitely the best hiking trip of my life.

Describe Your Wedding Vision As I noted in our engagement story, Ev and I love nature. We also love simplicity and our sanity. I'm a type of person that can get stressed out fairly easily (I know my weaknesses haha), so I knew I wanted to keep things simple. We wanted to incorporate nature into a rustic and industrial, raw venue. When we discovered The Brick, everything just fell into place. The exposed pipes, brick, and lighting were perfect. We added some tables, wooden chairs, and whiskey barrels, and my mother created a few gorgeous floral arrangements, and that was really all it took. Ev and my dad built the archway we got married under, and my mother decorated it with fabric and florals. Our tables were decorated with real log slices, pine leaves, pine cones, and candles for the natural, rustic feel, along with a touch of elegance from the decorative table runners, also made by my talented mother.

Describe Your Wedding Day Can I just say perfect? Haha, but really, it was great. I can't say it went perfectly as we had planned, but it was still absolutely fantastic. The weather had been horrific leading up to the wedding day, but the sun came out and it was a gorgeous November day for us. I had a blast getting ready with the wedding party and taking pictures. I wasn't stressed out or nervous or anxious. Everything was wonderful. The venue was gorgeous, our family and friends from near and far were there to celebrate with us, the food and music were great. I married the most incredible man... it was truly spectacular.

Your Advice To Engaged Couples I feel like everyone says these things, but I think a few more brides-to-be may need to hear them: Don't stress, enjoy being engaged, and have fun.

We were engaged for a year and a half, and let me tell you, it was great.

What's the rush? Enjoy being an engaged couple. Take your time making arrangements, and save up money to pay as you go so that you don't go into debt for a big party. Nobody is going to remember the minor details, and many won't even notice them, so don't worry about them. The night goes by so quickly. Don't spend your time worrying about the things that went wrong or got missed. Enjoy your day and live in the moment!

Spring is finally in the air and we couldn’t be any happier about it! Spring time weddings are always one of our favorite seasons to plan and coordinate. There truly is no particular color palette to choose from during this time of year but creating a light and airy palette feels so refreshing.

Burns Special Events designed a beautiful tablescape for this shoot that incorporated sage green, lilac and blush colors. Adding in a little depth with rose gold tied everything together. One of our favorite things about this table is the different textures of the stemware. The crystal wine glasses to the frosted wine glasses and the simple champagne flutes paired so well together.

Faith's makeup, created by Merle Norman, looked so classy and youthful. We loved the light and neutral eye with a pop of pink on her lips. Her hair and nails were done

by Vanis Salon and Day Spa. Her low messy curled bun presented a very graceful and sophisticated look yet highlighted the back of her low cut gown.

Keeping your jewelry simple is sometimes best! Your jewelry is to help highlight different areas of your body and accentuate the gown. Brad’s Designs and Jewelry perfectly paired a necklace, earrings and ring with the dress.

Our model, Faith Blair, looked absolutely stunning in a V-neck all white gown from Elegance Wedding and Evening Wear. The lace on the train looked so elegant and beautiful. This gown is such an updated classic look that can be passed down for generations!

Dixon's Florist and Wedding Center created a beautiful centerpiece for the table that really added an elegant flair. The bouquet that they made was exquisite and we were obsessing over how they integrated succulents! The flowers that they used were white hydrangeas, blush roses, ivory roses, white freesia, burgundy roses, silver dollar eucalyptus, Italian ruscus, plumosia and succulents.

With Avalon Manor having an on-site chef makes that decision even easier for the bride and groom. The variety of food choices and the beautifully presented plates looked so scrumptious. The first, French-cut Chicken with Tarragon Cream, Steamed Broccoli with Glazed Carrots and Red Peppers and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. Second, Medallions of Beef with Madeira Wine Sauce, Roasted Lemon Potatoes and Zucchini Wrapped Green Beans with Carrots Red Peppers. And last, Medallions of Beef with Madeira Wine Sauce and Grilled Chicken with Tarragon Cream, Green Beans Almondine and Roasted Red Potatoes with Olive Oil and Rosemary.

Describe Your Engagement Our engagement was a small, intimate affair with the people closest to us. My then fiancé enlisted my best friend, mother, and sister to decorate the living room and entrance of our house while he took me out for dinner on Valentine’s Day. When we arrived back home, I walked into a candle-lit, flower-covered room with music playing. Our families were standing around us and he got down on one knee and popped the question. I cried and could barely get out the word “yes.” I really couldn’t have asked for a more perfect setting. He is always the type of person who can’t keep a secret, so it was such a surprise!

Describe Your Wedding Vision I had always envisioned my wedding as a more rustic theme and being held in the fall. I knew, even before I was engaged, that I wanted to get married in a barn out in the country. I pictured a ceremony in the woods with all the different colored leaves around us. Fall is my favorite season and the way the sun hits the leaves and reflects their colors, it’s just so beautiful. As for my dress, I had always pictured myself in a simple A-line gown, but I went for something completely different: a ballgown with horse-hair trim!

I’m so glad I stepped out of what I thought I wanted because I feel like it fit my vision and paired perfectly with the flannel I wore for sunset pictures.

Describe Your Wedding Day Our wedding was truly the best day. I got to marry my best friend and high school sweetheart, and I really couldn’t ask for much else. It was a wedding filled with so many laughs and happy tears and was really a dream come true, as cliché as that may sound. I catch myself looking back on our pictures all the time reliving how wonderful of a day it was. Even though we had some slips here and there, literally me falling to the ground during sunset pictures, it really was everything I had hoped for and I am thankful that everything came together.

Your Advice To Engaged Couples My two biggest pieces of advice would be: Don’t sweat the small stuff and DO THE FIRST LOOK! I’m sure most people will tell you that when the day comes and you’re in the moment that you won’t even notice or realize what isn’t perfect and they are exactly right! I didn’t even know about most of the ‘imperfections’ of our wedding until weeks after because I was just enjoying myself. Things will go wrong, no matter how hard you try, and guess what? Your day will still be amazing, I swear! As for the first look, I cannot speak on this enough. I am so thankful that we spoke to our photographer about this because it was a game changer. It was great for my husband and I to get some one-on-one time together before everything. It really calmed any nerves we had and allowed for some beautiful pictures.

Describe Your Engagement Our engagement was, well in short, longer than we both have wanted but life is what happens when you're making plans. From the beginning we both didn't really know what all we wanted to do but that we wanted to do it together no matter what. We had a few set backs that were happy moments like buying a home and having our son but that meant our wedding was pushed back once again. Our goal after having our son was to finally get everything worked out and finally married after three years of an engagement.

Of course he's the more planned out one and frankly I'm just the one with her head in the clouds sometimes. Everything came together in the end after all.

Describe Your Wedding Vision From the beginning the one thing we both agreed on was we wanted something different than what everyone else was doing for their weddings. That meant absolutely no barn or burlap but something that reflected us better. Our biggest inspiration was The Great Gatsby and the roaring 20's but with a little modern twist. While the girls weren't in flapper dresses the guys still rocked their laid back suspenders and maroon bow ties. The colors we kept quite classy with my favorite color maroon being the most prominent, and gold and greens to accent the look.

Describe Your Wedding Day How do you describe a day that went faster than a blink of an eye? Honestly, the day went by so smoothly that all the stress and hard work we put it just came together. Everyone had a good time, there was plenty of laughs, silly moments and all around good times.

Your Advice to Engaged Couples Our best advice is to do whatever is going to make you happiest. It could be that you want something small or crazy elaborate if that's what's going to make you happy, do it. Cutting corners is only going to make you regret it, you have one day in this moment enjoy it.
