Our wedding day felt like something out of a dream. The sun shone brightly from a clear blue sky, casting a golden glow over everything. There was a quiet excitement in the air as loved ones gathered, smiles wide, hearts full. The ceremony itself was simple and personal—short, sweet, and overflowing with emotion. We exchanged vows surrounded by the people who mean the most to us. From there, the party came to life. Set inside a beautifully decorated barn dressed in dusty blue and shimmering gold, the space was decorated perfectly. Laughter filled the room, glasses clinked in toasts, and happy tears were shed throughout the evening. It was everything we hoped for and more— filled with joy, love, and memories we’ll cherish for a lifetime.

I envisioned my wedding as simple yet classy, something that felt intentional, personal, and filled with meaning. I didn’t want anything over the top, but I did want every detail to reflect love, warmth, and a sense of who we are.
The soft pastel color palette paired beautifully with the abundance of spring wildflowers, bringing a natural, romantic feel to the day. From the floral arrangements to the thoughtful moments shared with guests, everything was designed to feel genuine and heartfelt. It was important to us that the wedding wasn’t just beautiful to look at, but also left people feeling connected to us, to each other, and to the joy of the day. In the end, it was exactly what we hoped for: elegant but down-to-earth, sweet but sophisticated, and full of love in every way.

Our wedding day was truly everything we hoped it would be: smooth, joyful, and filled with love. From the moment the day began, everything fell perfectly into place. Your Advice to Engaged Couples
One piece of advice I would give to engaged couples is to find an amazing wedding coordinator. Someone who truly understands your vision and helps make the planning process feel smooth and stressfree. Having that support makes all the difference, allowing you to be fully present and actually enjoy the experience.
Take time to appreciate each part of the planning process, even the little decisions, because those moments are part of your story, too. That said, try not to get caught up in chasing perfection. It’s easy to stress over tiny details, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you’re marrying your best friend. That’s what truly matters. The rest, like flowers, table settings, and playlists, will all fall into place.
Focus on what feels true to you as a couple, and everything will come together in a beautiful and meaningful way. Just breathe, soak it all in, and celebrate the love that brought you here.

The Armory showcased its culinary artistry with a decadent charcuterie board and two plated entrées. Guests enjoyed pan-seared salmon. Perfectly crisped and tender, topped with delicate vin blanc dollops, served alongside nutty forbidden rice, tender haricot vert with julienned red bell pepper, and sweet baby stem carrot. The filet mignon was a prime-cut filet, seared to
perfection and finished with a rich demi-cabernet glaze. Accompanied by herb-roasted Yukon potatoes, tender broccolini with julienned red bell pepper, and sweet baby stem carrot. Each dish was as visually stunning as it was flavorful, making the meal feel like its own celebration.

Burns Special Events brought the space to life with rich jewel tones and layered textures. Two curated tablescapes showcased their eye for design, pairing bold colors with florals that felt both lush and refined. Think roses in deep, moody shades, fuchsia carnations, and cascading amaranthus, softened with hints of ruscus and pennycress. Thoughtful details were woven into the tablescapes and lounge area, like emeraldgreen accents and the number 20 subtly displayed on table numbers and chairs, serving as elegant nods to TheWeddingMag’s 20th anniversary, a milestone celebrated in style.

This was definitely one of my favorite 2025 weddings, and it’s hard to pinpoint just one reason why it stood out.
For starters, Jessica and Tommy have the kind of chemistry and expressive love that photographs beautifully. From their first look to the ceremony and dances, the day overflowed with joy, which made capturing candid photos effortless.
The vendor team was incredible, some of my favorites and others I’ve been fortunate to work with often. Northwest Indiana truly has some talented wedding professionals.
Journeyman in Valparaiso was the perfect setting. Having both the ceremony and reception in one location gave us more time for photos without losing moments to travel, and the staff kept everything running seamlessly. I even had time to stop by before meeting the girls at Clawdia’s Beauty Salon and capture details since so much was set up early.
The ceremony space offered endless angles while allowing me to stay unnoticed. A touch of cloud cover and a soft breeze worked in our favor, too. Even though we had done a first look, I still loved seeing Jessica and Tommy’s faces as she walked down the aisle, it was as if they were seeing each other for the very first time.
The reception glowed with natural light pouring in from both ends of the hall, creating a stunning backdrop for their first dance. I rarely get to capture that moment in such beautiful light, and it added to the magic.
The party, food, and desserts were outstanding, and we wrapped up the night with some gorgeous outdoor photos. I have no doubt Jessica and Tommy will share a lifetime of joy together. It was a true privilege to capture their wedding.

Describe Your Wedding Vision
Most women, I feel like, grow up knowing exactly what they want for their future wedding day. I always wanted an outdoor wedding, and when I became engaged, the most important thing to me was a day that represented both my future husband and myself equally.
We visited a couple of wedding venues, but when we toured our venue, we fell in love with it and booked our date immediately. From that point forward, it became a labor of love in planning the details. During many conversations with vendors, I lovingly came to describe my wedding as “boho vintage glam.”
I wanted rich, vibrant colors to play off gold metallics and bright florals that would pop against the color of my bridesmaids’ dresses. I wanted our reception to be filled with candles of all sizes for that romantic glow below the twinkling lights strung overhead. I’m the type of person who finds beauty in the details, and I wanted our day to be filled with touches that were uniquely “us.”
Everything from the “Sip n’ Solve” crossword we featured during cocktail hour, to bagpipers playing us into our reception with my husband joining them to play another song, to even offering honey favors from our very own beehive.
Describe Your Wedding Day
Everyone, including myself, stresses about their big day. Looking back, ours was pure perfection. I wouldn’t change a thing, and I know because I still replay the memories from it.
From the moment my bridesmaids arrived bright and early for hair and makeup, my wedding day was filled with love and laughter. The venue was full of energetic chaos from all the vendors and my rockstar coordinator making our vision a reality, and later all the love of those in attendance.
Any worries about small details or weather melted away in the afternoon sunshine, and I was still on cloud nine at the end of the night under the stars, sitting on the veranda with those who stayed to shut the place down.
Our wedding was truly magical, and I’m not the only one who describes it that way. Many of our guests, unprompted, have said the same thing. It lived up to the “boho vintage glam” aesthetic but felt more like an intimate, relaxed night filled with fun, laughter, and karaoke with those dearest to us, which is exactly what we wanted.
Your Advice To Engaged Couples
The best advice I’d give any engaged couple is to communicate. Knowing a budget and what’s important to both of you will help determine where you want to spend your dollars and where to focus your efforts, not to mention who’s responsible for what task and how involved you want specific people to be. I booked vendors starting from the largest and most important first.
Photographers book so far in advance, I contracted mine as soon as I had our date set, followed by catering and my florist.
I’d also highly recommend a “Day-of Coordinator.” The last thing you want to do on your big day is worry about all the details you’ve been stressing about leading up to it.
My final advice for newly engaged couples would be to plan for the unexpected. That includes recognizing there will likely be last-minute details you never thought of, but also rolling with things on the big day even if something doesn’t go as planned. At the end of the day—which seriously goes by in the blink of an eye—you’ll remember the love, the laughter, and the vows exchanged between you and the love of your life. Savor every minute.
