ENJOY EATING AGAIN WITH DENTAL IMPLANTS

Do you miss eating your favorite foods because of your dentures? It can be frustrating when you’re stuck eating soft foods and avoiding the crunchy, chewy meals you love. But what if there was a solution to bring back your ability to enjoy any meal again? With dental implants, you can enjoy eating again—just like you did before.

Why Dental Implants Are Different

Dental implants are more than just a replacement for missing teeth—they restore full mouth function. Unlike dentures that can slip, slide, or feel uncomfortable, dental implants are fixed securely in your jawbone. This means you can eat, smile, and talk without worrying about your teeth moving.

A Return to Real Food

With dental implants, you can chew up to 90% of what you could with natural teeth. Imagine biting into an apple or enjoying a crispy salad—foods that were once hard to eat with dentures are now easy and comfortable with dental implants. At Michiana Dental Implants, we’ve helped patients get back to eating the foods they love without hesitation or discomfort.

One of our patients came to us with the simple wish to eat an apple again. After receiving her dental implants, she was able to enjoy it without any trouble! Now, she can eat what she wants without any of the frustrations that come with dentures.

Learn More About Dental Implants At Our Seminar

If you’re curious about how dental implants can help you enjoy eating again, join us at our Free Dental Implant Seminar on May 17th at the Blue Gate Garden Inn & Conference Center at 8am. Dr. Jeffrey S. Mader and his team of experts will be there to explain how dental implants work and how they can improve your quality of life. Seats are limited. Call (574)398-3384 to reserve your spot.

Chivalry or Chicanery? Adventure Leaves Friends Soggy

Esther Lehman begins her day of canoeing with a splash. She and my sister, Emily, have just entered the water. In fact, Esther is still not actually seated in her vessel. A few seconds after pushing off from the beach, they are floating broadside past our still beached canoe. We’re ready though, and I am seated in the bow. Levi Zook of Pennsylvania, a good friend, gives our canoe a hefty shove as is necessary to get started. Sadly for the Double E swim team, they are directly in front of us and absorb a jarring blow from the nose of our ship. Emily, who is seated, rides it out with only a few yelps. Esther is not so fortunate.

Anyone who has tried standing in a canoe knows how difficult it is to retain balance. When you throw in a surprise jolt – kiss it goodbye.

The water is shallow enough, so Esther’s hand touches the bottom and she only falls halfway out.

Therefore, she retains her dry status. We helped the girls get situated again in their shiny red canoe. Levi and I are to end up doing a lot of “helping” today.

Ten canoes carry 20 of us 20-somethings down the Pigeon River out of Mongo. About half of us are Hoosiers; the rest hail from Pennsylvania.

We do not stay dry for very long. Some of these gents have come packing heat, namely water guns. These are quickly employed. I unfortunately, have no water gun and become victim to the whims of the shooters.

Junior Beller is especially lethal. He purchased a three-foot-long, red Water Blaster at the Trading Post before we embarked. Never have I seen a water gun like it. The Blaster shoots great streams of water for great distances and Junior quickly gets it into play. Levi and I are almost helpless against Junior’s onslaught and we promptly plot to snatch the Big Red Nuisance. We get it done, too, by sneaking up on Junior’s canoe while he and companion, Eli, are preoccupied.

Levi confiscates the prized weapon and it has a home in our canoe for a while.

Staying dry is especially hard for gentlemen like Levi and me. There are four canoes with pairs of girls in them. For some reason, it seems that whenever the girls have a mishap and their canoe dumps, Levi and I happen to be close by. Being chivalrous, Levi and I often get out of our canoe, wade the distance to the dumped vessel and help them get it sea-worthy again. Levi and I get wet, but we feel it’s the right thing to do.

The Double E swim club, Esther and Emily, has an especially hard time to stay afloat. They seem to spend almost as much time in the river as in their canoe. Levi and I help them several times.

Just before the stop for our picnic lunch, we are, uh, nearby when Neomah and Becky dump into the river. Since the water is too deep to wade, we ask them to hang on to their water-logged canoe and our dry one. Levi and I huff and puff and tow them the rest of the way to the picnic site. Our chivalry is proving exhausting.

While preparing to eat the tasty picnic lunch that captain Steven Miller has brought along, Levi proclaims that everyone is fortunate that he and I are along. He is referring to the fact that we have assisted every one of the ladies’ canoes out of distress.

They do not clap. They do not cheer. They do not give us a medal. We are left with the satisfaction that virtue is its own reward.

Intentional Gratitude

In the back of one of her books, author Terri Blackstock writes about “Intentional gratitude.” It held my attention and made me ponder enough that I decided to sit down and write a summary of it, in my own words.

It really gave me something to think about. Now if only I would practice it every day…

Intentional means doing something with intent, or, as we would say, “on purpose.” Gratitude is thankfulness. So, intentional gratitude is an aggressive effort to be aware of God’s gifts throughout your day, and acknowledging those gifts with a simple “Thank you.”

Thank God for every gift He gives, from those as small as the warmth of the sun on your face, the beauty of a sunset, the realization that you’ve just had a few moments without back pain, to really big things like the fact that people you love are in the next room, safe and happy.

In this practice there can be no “Yes, but…” or “It’s not fair” or “Why me?” kind of thinking. There is no time for regrets about the past, or worries about the future. There is only thankfulness for today.

Might this be the secret to contentment the Apostle Paul mentions? Perhaps also this is what he meant when he said, “Pray without ceasing,” because every expression of gratitude to God is like a prayer breathed, and leads to continual worship as you go about your day.

It is not easy. It takes real effort for it to become a routine in your life.

But it is well worth it. You will begin to see God in the little things around you. Anticipation will fill your day, complaining becomes praise, bearable things become easier, and trials can be blessings. This practice will bring joy to your life, for we know that in a thankful heart there is no room for Satan.

Philippians 4:8: Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Those Bones

We do not have to put up with these bones, I decided one weekend. They are ugly, really ugly. They are not dry, bleached bones. They are gross. These bones have significant amounts of animal attached. They have become a chronic problem. They attract flies—or they will later this spring— and they do not look becoming in our yard.

I tossed all the bones I could find into the wheelbarrow. After a short walk, I dumped the load of bones and considered them properly disposed.

I looked at the lawn appreciatively. A green sheen was winning over the brown. Sunny daffodils nodded in the flower beds and the trees were eager to share their shade-making properties. Ah, beautiful springtime.

The next day was Sunday. I like to rise early enough to enjoy an especially restful time of devotions and coffee, and to watch the sunrise. I don’t always manage to do this but this morning’s display confirmed that it was worth it. The sunrise was glorious.

Even though my religion doesn’t require it, I thought it would be nice to perch at an east-facing window to enjoy a morning sunbath as I prayed and meditated. Before I started I looked at the verdant lawn.

What was that? Bones again?

Those animal parts had reappeared.

A certain measure of joy trickled out of me. The sun seemed less radiant. Still, I knew my devotion to God shouldn’t be based on how tidy the yard was. I tried to ignore those bones but my thoughts kept bumping into the vision of the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37. In his vision the prophet watched as God caused the bones to come together and be covered with flesh. When God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the four winds, the bodies received the breath of life and stood—an exceeding great army.

Somehow I couldn’t see much of a parallel between these two settings. I certainly didn’t want these bones to come back to life.

Who was to blame for the reappearance of the bones? I felt I had a fairly good idea. We have a

dog, Tracey. She’s friendly and fun, but she does have a fault. She is considerably more attracted to dead flesh than I am, and worst of all, has not learned to put away her toys at the end of the day.

The next weekend I decided to take the Getting Rid of Bones Program a step further. I gathered all those smelly bones again. I carried them behind the barn, out the field lane, and dumped them into the river. Now our bone-obsessed doggy wouldn’t be able to smell them. “Let her find something else to chew,” I said with immense satisfaction.

I may have gained a measure of triumph. I now see a lush lawn, aged daffodils, and leafy trees. No bones are in sight.

I thought again about finding a parallel to Ezekiel’s vision. Perhaps the lesson I should learn was that some things in life simply don’t have to be analyzed; we don’t need to understand everything. Upon further contemplation I wondered if I am, at times, like Tracey. God gives me a clean green lawn to enjoy—a life full of opportunities to glorify Him. What do I do with my lawn? Sometimes I drag in ugly fleshy bones of pride, selfishness, covetousness, and other sinful habits. How repulsive!

Throwing bones into the river was not a one time deal. As the summer progressed, I kept spotting fleshly ornaments now and then. I have come to believe that as long as we have a dog and a lawn, the problem will continue.

But that doesn’t mean I will give up. It doesn’t mean that I will learn to like those bones. Instead, I will continue to abhor them and throw them into the river whenever they appear.

From Contract To Closing With RES

Buying property is an exciting journey, whether you’re looking for land to build on, farm, or invest in, or a home ready for your family to move into. At RES, we’re with you every step of the way, whether you’re bidding at auction or purchasing through a traditional listing. Here’s what the process looks like when you work with us.

Auction vs. Listing: How the Process Begins

When you purchase a property through an auction, it’s sold as-is, where-is, and not contingent on financing, inspection, or appraisal. This makes doing your due diligence beforehand essential. Once you place a bid, it’s legally binding, so you’ll want to have a clear understanding of the property before auction day. You’ll sign the contract (a.k.a. purchase agreement) either the night of the live auction or the next day for phone bid auctions.

For listed properties, you’ll make an offer on a property you’ve seen and want. If the seller accepts, you’ll sign a contract that outlines the terms, price, and any contingencies, such as financing and inspections. Unlike auctions, you have the option to back out if certain contingencies aren’t met.

The Contract Is Signed—Now What?

Once the contract is signed, you’ll work with our closing coordinator, Victoria, or the property agent to guide you through the closing process. They’ll coordinate with the seller, title company, and any lenders involved to keep things moving smoothly. Auction closings typically happen within 30 days of the auction date, while listings usually close within 30 to 45 days—the timing can vary if the buyer and seller agree to adjust the schedule.

Closing Day

Most closings happen at our office just north of downtown Middlebury, though we sometimes arrange for closing at a title company or remotely if it’s more convenient. We love hosting closings; after weeks of back and forth, it’s rewarding when we see buyers and sellers finally shake hands, exchange keys, or even share home maintenance tips and service provider contact information. Whether closing day is celebratory or straightforward , we’re glad to be part of the process.

If you’re thinking about buying or selling, we’d love to hear from you.

& R. Yoder of White Pigeon, MI

An agent brings local market knowledge and pricing expertise, helping keep negotiations grounded in reality. Plus, they can help list or take your property to auction —potentially securing a higher sale price While agent fees are generally higher than that of a private sale, a bigger return could make it well worth the cost

Private sales can be appealing because they feel more straightforward , but they involve some serious negotiating Many of the private transactions that we facilitate take place within families or close-knit communities, where trust plays a big role. Unless one party is being intentionally generous, the purchase price should feel fair to both sides. If you’re unsure about pricing or feel like you’re negotiating blindly, it’s worth talking to a professional who can help you avoid accidentally discounting your property or overpaying for one.

At the end of the day, your decisions should be based on your family’s needs, finances, and circumstances. We always encourage making informed decisions that you feel confident in.
