Greetings from BCF! In 1996 we bought our first pacing mare with help from uncles John and Leroy Schmucker. We were guided to breed to Expensive Scooter at Sabbra Farms a Streetsboro, OH. 11 months later a nice colt was born. Bart Glass went around to score the yearlings prior to sale, and scored him a high at 10, being perfect, so he sold very well at sale and us boys were hooked. A few years later, Dad went to Delaware, OH and met Steve Stewart of Hunterton Farms. He asked him if he would help us brothers along in the horse industry and treat us like children. Steve promised to do so, and has done that to the point! The first mare he called us about was Delphis Daughter, a Speedy Crown mare, costing 6 digists. We bought 33% so that was a Iot of money for us young brothers, James and I. Two months later he called early in the morning and told us the mare aborted. He offered to give our money back if we wanted out, or not charge us until she has a live foal on the ground. A year later she gave us a studt colt out of Broadway Hall. Later she sold for 85k. She sold 6-7 after that, some sold for more money. Since then we bought Here Comes Herbie, a son of Credit Winner that raced as a 2-year-old and 3-year-old. He won Elinination of Hambo 1.52 flat, as was favorite for final. Trend Smoothammer started too fast, got the 3/4 pole at 1.21 flat, which would have set him to world record. However, a horse’s body is made to flip palate because of overexertion. His palate flipped and he came to a low trot and finished seventh. A big dissapointment.

they bought him and tried for a year, but only 2-3 resulting foals. so they gave him back to BCF. He has been live covering mares ever since with 4-5 pregnancies a year. The price for a Herbie yearling is $75k, full brother to Natural Herbie. Natural Herbie was out of buggy horse Ljanearl. He was special, very athletic. When yearling time came he just kept trotting in the pasture; we had a hard time catching him. He sold for just $3,800.00, but the trainer that bought him couldn’t figure him out. Verlin Yoder bought him for $2,000.00 and won last Leg of Sire Stakes. He was 11th in standings and was ready to send him to Florida. Just for anyhow, he entered him in the $200,000 final! Lucky for Yoder, another horse scratched, he was in and won the final. Three-year-old season Yoder took him to Ohio against other grand circuit horses. won Yonkers Trot, etc. He paid off Verlin’s farm, bought new trucks, etc. We as BFC got a lot of recognition from Herbies last year. It’s A Herbie won $242,000 for Verlin Yoder. We also bred him. We have around 30 brood mares in Indiana, trotters and pacers, breeding to our stallions; Dover Dan, Lockbewithyou and Check Six. Three years ago Steve Stewart at Hunterton’s Farm called during the night and says Southwind Serena is starting to foal and is having complications. They rushed her to the hospital and had to do a C-section. She delivered a big black, stud colt which was named Tactical Landing. He was special from day one. The prior year she had a filly by Muscle Hill named Mission Brief which sold for $180,000. She was crowned 2-year-old Filly of the year 1.50.3 world champion. As Tactical Landing prepped for the Lexington selected yearling sale there was buzz floating around that he was the best one here! So what can he bring? Thanks to Ernie Martinez he sold for $800,000! Wow! What a night to remember. As a two year old small issues came along and he was sore and training was stopped. Starting back again in the spring, Martinez couldn’t figure him out. So in June Ernie Martinez picked up Tactical Landing and took him to Jimmy Takters, the Trotting trainer of all times, to get results. Jimmy had him five days and made a change to him. He went on to get a record of 1.50.2, $812,000. Now he is standing stud at Southwind Farms in New Jersey. Fertility very good. First year 130 mares in foal! We feed McCavleys from Kentucky which is a top named brand with all the vitamins ad minerals in it, so need to top dress.

Little did we know about his fertility. He stood at Tera Hill in Ontario, Canada for the first year with a very low conception rate. Tara Hills called all partners and said we are taking Herbie to the Delaware sale. He said he was a $750,000.00 twoyear-old and we were not ready for a big loss. We told Pete Heflery that we would by the horse, so we agreed on a price and had him delivered to our farm. We had boots and supplies left from when we owned Super Ben Joe which was a success story itself and lots of fun. We called FedEx to send semen samples to Colorado for evaluation. The first year we bred 63 mares live cover. 37 pregnant, better conception rate than what Tarra Hills had. A resulting foal was Better Than Dreams and sold for $55,000. Blue Chip Farms owners and stallion manager came to Indiana to look at Herbie. He made an offer we couldn’t resist, so

But as you know our land has been used for centuries, so a lot of minerals are lacking. That’s when we came across a product called Maximum Performance at The Mec Center shown by owners Howard Roberts and Susan Jennings. Howard was the trainer of 30+ world champions riding horses. Maximum Performance or MP, is very high in calcium and phosphorus which makes up 70% of the minerals in a horse’s body. We know horses are athletes. Dad’s buggy horse was going lame and slowing down, so he bought a pony to drive while he turned the horse out and put him heavily on MP. Ben Schwartz from. Bluffton, IN had a two-year-old filly with OCD, x-rayed and put on MP. 60 days later there was no OCD, so he put the filly back in training. One bag $150; cheaper than $1600. Dave Raber from Davies County is winning a lot of races at Hoosier Park on MP. MP-7 is a product for EPM. We have seen results in 10 days. MP also has mineral blocks.
