Trafficking is the buying and selling of men, women, & children to perform sexual acts against their will. They are held captive by an owner, who uses their body as a money-making object. Sex trafficking is a global tragedy affecting 28 million people each year.

MYTH VS REALITY

Human trafficking is always a violent crime that involves kidnapping or physical force.

Most traffickers use psychological manipulation to trick or threaten victims into exploitive situations.

Trafficking involves transporting a person across state or national borders.

The crime of human trafficking does not require movement and can happen in a victim’s hometown, or even their own home.

CENTERING SURVIVORS

NSI is committed to educating our community about the realities of human trafficking by presenting facts and statistics, but we can never fully articulate what it means to be trafficked, nor should we. Instead, we honor the voices and the stories of those with lived experience, the real teachers: survivors.

Survivors belong at the forefront of this battlefield, but in order to ensure their dignity, safety, and healing we do not feature their photographs or imagery that portrays their representation.

By not featuring survivors directly, they have time and space to choose how and when they share the stories they carry.

WHO WE ARE

Located in Lancaster County, North Star Initiative (NSI) offers restoration through The Harbor, a 24/7 restoration home and program for domestic sex trafficking survivors.

Mission

North Star Initiative advocates for and supports survivors of sex trafficking by providing physical, psychological, emotional, educational, and spiritual development through a Christ-centered focus.

WHAT WE DO

In the Harbor, North Star Initiative provides a holistic program and safe space for women, ages 18-35, to rebuild their lives. The Harbor’s 12–15-month program focuses on whole-person needs from a trauma perspective.
