ART
with heart
Discover the West Pymble creative hub celebrating 30 years of helping local artists find their voice
Tucked in a sunny corner of Philip Mall, beside the community garden and bustling cafés, the Boonah Creative Arts Centre is buzzing with activity.
Confident local creative Daisy’s new painting, Open Road, is just one of the artworks that lights up the studio’s walls. A textured rush of vibrant greens intersected by a slash of hot pink, it’s hard to believe that until a few years ago, talented artist Daisy had never even picked up a paint brush.
For three decades, Boonah Creative Arts Centre, run by CatholicCare, has nurtured the artistic growth of adults, like Daisy, who are living with disability.
Two art sessions run each day, Monday to Friday, and up to 70 participants drop in
“WHATEVER THE ARTIST WANTS TO CREATE, WE’RE HERE TO HELP BRING IT TO LIFE”
each week to paint, sculpt, collage and explore their creativity, all guided by a hands-on team of experienced art facilitators led by Activity Leader, Cadence Delaney.
“Whatever the artist wants to create, we’re here to help bring it to life,” Cadence tells northsider. “We’re fully participant-led, so we don’t tell the artists what to do. Our role is to help make their ideas come to life. That sometimes means thinking outside the box. For example, some artists have limited mobility, so we’ll adapt tools - we’ll build brush extenders, use upcycled items, introduce different sensory ways of working - to enable them to create their art. We guide, support and facilitate, but the vision is always the artist’s.”
“We’re really not that different to any other art studio,” she continues. “Art doesn’t have to be made in any specific way. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creativity. Disability only comes into play when it comes to emotional or physical support. And at the end of the day,
we’re all human, we all need a bit of support sometimes.”
Daisy’s journey with Boonah started seven years ago. Working with her Activity Support Partners, Queena and Lesley, Daisy’s artworks provide a vivid reflection of how her confidence and independence have grown since she first started creating.
“Daisy has blossomed at Boonah,” her mum, Jenny, says. “She’s found more than an art space here. She’s discovered her voice and a place where her talent can shine. Thursdays in the studio are her day of joy!”
“Daisy’s autistic, she’s intelligent and affectionate, she can read and work things out, but with limited language, she had all these ideas bottled up inside her,” Jenny continues. “Creating art has given her a voice. She’s found ways to express herself through

Her latest piece, right, is titled Open Road.

art that words couldn’t capture. Since she has started creating, her world has grown and I’m extremely proud of her.”
Journeys like Daisy’s aren’t unusual at Boonah. “What we do here really demonstrates that anyone can be an artist regardless of their skills, mobility, verbal ability…everyone has it in them to be creative. That can be truly transformative,”
Cadence says. “We’ve had artists who’ve come to us and been non-verbal when they first arrived and who have started pronouncing words, and even sentences, after spending time here. Another artist made so much progress with their confidence, they were able to reduce their anxiety medication. It’s progress like that which blows me away.”
Boonah’s influence extends beyond the studio walls with artists forming lifetime friendships, catching up outside of sessions and getting the chance to display their work.
It also offers opportunities for participants to earn income from their art, with greetings cards and pieces available to buy at the studio and an annual exhibition, where many of the works are available for sale.
There are many ways locals can support the studio and its artists from donating art materials, buying cards or artworks, or simply following and liking posts on social media @boonahcreativearts
“Seeing an artist’s face light up when someone admires or buys their work is priceless,” Cadence says. “The exhibition helps others see what’s possible and how much our artists have to say without saying anything at all.”
You don’t have to wait for the annual exhibition to step into Boonah’s world of colour and creation. Locals are encouraged to pop in whenever a session is taking place. “People are always welcome to come to the studio, have a chat with the artists, get to know them and see them creating their work,” Cadence encourages. “They love saying hi and have people acknowledge what they’re doing.”
Thirty years after opening its doors, Boonah’s presence promotes confidence and resilience and continues to challenge – and change - perceptions, one brushstroke at a time.
“Everyone here is first and foremost an artist,” Cadence concludes. “We’re just a studio where talented people are making great art.” l

THE HOLIDAY EFFECT
How Summer re ections shape the year ahead in property with local expert, Josh Luschwitz of Luschwitz Real Estate
As the year winds down and Sydney slows into Summer, the Upper North Shore comes alive with family gatherings and the smell of barbeques. It’s also when property conversations begin. With routines paused, people look at their homes with fresh eyes. Maybe the house feels too big, the garden too small or a lifestyle change feels exciting after a trip to the coast. We call this the Holiday Effect: the moment families reassess what ‘home’ really means and start planning their next move.
The Summer reset
ready homes, downsizers focused on apartments and townhouses and buyers acted decisively when the right property appeared. Character homes, generous land parcels, privacy and scope for renovation remained highly sought after.
Outlook for 2026
Across Ku-ring-gai, the property market follows the rhythm of school terms and holidays. December is a gentle wind-down, but by late January energy returns. Kids are back at school, homes are decluttered and motivation is high. February to April is one of the busiest listing periods, with buyers refreshed and sellers benefiting from long Summer days and gardens at their best. Looking back on 2025 2025 was a year of resilience. Interest rates settled, confidence returned and the Upper North Shore held steady. Finalised development legislation gave residents clarity, while limited stock kept competition strong, especially near top schools and transport hubs. Families sought move-in
“IS OUR HOME STILL THE RIGHT FIT FOR THE LIFE WE WANT NEXT YEAR?”
Early signs for 2026 are encouraging. Demand is expected to remain strong, supported by easing borrowing costs and population growth. Low stock levels are likely to keep prices firm, while downsizers and investors gradually re-enter the market. Early preparation over Summer - minor maintenance and professional photos of gardens in full bloom - can make a meaningful difference when campaigns begin in February.
Thinking of making a move in 2026? Luschwitz Real Estate has guided families through their property journey on Sydney’s Upper North Shore since 1969. Get in touch today to find out how we can help you with your next chapter. ●
SCOOP dreams
From classic vanilla to daring seasonal creations, Gelatiamo has your cool Summer treats licked
For almost 20 years, Gelatiamo has been Lindfield’s go-to scoop stop. The sweet escape on the Pacific Highway is renowned for its small-batch, hand-crafted gelatos and sorbets, which are all churned in-house.
Charlie Wong, the café and gelateria’s newest custodian, has a cool connection to the store. “I came here all the time as a kid for gelato,” he tells northsider. Now, Charlie’s the one behind the icy treats and is creating flavours that delight both kids and big kids alike.
The first gelato Charlie ever whipped up was vanilla. Simple, classic and made with real vanilla beans.
“Our vanilla gelato is white in colour, which is an easy way to spot if real vanilla beans
“WE ALWAYS HAVE THE CORE CLASSICS, THEN
have been used. Vanilla gelato will be yellow if it’s been made with extract,” he explains.
When it comes to local favourites, the classics are top of the popsicles. “Pistachio, chocolate, vanilla and hazelnut always fly off the counter,” Charlie says.
“We always have the core classics, then rotate a few specials every fortnight,” he continues. “Usually it depends on what fruit looks good at Harris Farm or if we’ve been testing something new that week.”
Gelatiamo has a reputation for churning some adventurous flavours. “We like to experiment,” Charlie says. “Sometimes it’s a random idea we want to try, sometimes it’s based on what’s trending or what customers ask for. We make everything from scratch, so we get to play around with ingredients until it tastes just right.” From coffee gelato made with a litre of freshly brewed Toby’s Estate espresso to ube and black sesame gelato and mandarin sorbet, there’s always something new to try. This summer’s limited-edition Dubai Chocolate is currently turning up the heat.
So cool!
Keep an eye on @gelatiamocafe on Instagram for all the latest gelato and sorbet flavour specials.
Charlie toasts kataifi, a thin shredded filo dough, until golden and crispy, then mixes it with creamy pistachio to create a unique contrast of texture and flavour. Next, he layers the mix through rich chocolate gelato to create his icy take on the viral treat.
“It’s one of the most exciting flavours we’ve made yet,” Charlie says. “It’s super limited though, so definitely worth coming in to try it before it’s gone.”
This season, it’s not just the gelato that’s the coolest thing to enjoy at Gelatiamo. Charlie has rolled out a new food menu too.
Brekkie dishes include classic eggs benedict and avo on toast as well as Belgian waffles, tomato bruschetta and gelato thickshakes.
Lunches include new pasta dishes such as garlic prawn spaghetti, basil pesto rigatoni
and a shakshuka rigatoni with runny egg and housemade sauce. You’ll also find a range of sandos and salads along with muffins and sweet treats. The coffee is Toby’s Estate and as well as refreshing cold brew, there’s a range of iced matchas including the insta-worthy strawberry matcha, a coconut matcha cloud and an orange matcha.
For Charlie, the Lindfield locals are the cherry on top of his Gelatiamo experience.
“The community is what makes it so special,” he smiles. “Everyone knows each other and people really support local businesses. It feels like a family. I love seeing people like me who came here as kids and now bring their own children for gelato. I think that’s pretty cool.” ● Gelatiamo, 362 Pacific Highway, Lindfield

Sparkle season is here with these local Christmas light favourites
LINDFIELD
For over 15 years, 22 Bradfield Road has been spreading the Christmas spirit with more than 80,000 lights in a display that takes a month to set up! Tune your radio to 91.1 FM and watch as the lights move in sync with a variety of festive songs. Previous year’s displays have raised funds for the Leukaemia Foundation and have included inflatable North Pole animals, lasers, projections and twinkling Christmas trees.
EAST LINDFIELD
At 22 Adelaide Avenue, you’ll find an enchanting mix of string, icicle and LED lights, along with a variety of Christmasthemed inflatables, all set up to help raise funds for Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. Previous years have even included bubble and smoke machines. Just a few streets away, 86 Chelmsford Avenue glows with a dazzling display of lights, where trees, shrubs and festive statues are beautifully illuminated to create a spectacular outdoor Christmas wonderland.
DAVIDSON
The residents of Borgnis Street are definitely on the nice list. Each year, the cul-de-sac transforms into a Christmas Wonderland, beginning at the fire station and stretching up the street. Previous years have included spectacular light displays, food trucks and even an appearance from the Grinch driving a fire truck! While the light displays are free to experience, the community raises money for Bear College children’s hospice, which offers respite treatment for seriously ill children and their families, by suggesting people leave a donation when they visit. Last Christmas, they raised an amazing $56,300 so be sure to bring those gold coins. Keep an eye on the ‘Borgnis Street Christmas Lights’ Facebook page for updates on choir performances and info on when Santa’s due to stop by.
ST IVES
‘Tis the season for Christmas lights in St Ives! Some stand-outs include 26 Nicholson Avenue, where kids and adults alike marvel at the megatree, which is comprised of over 5000 LED lights. You can also walk beneath a sparkling archway or snap a picture in the ‘elfie’ sled. 43 Bimburra Avenue has been dazzling locals for over 20 years, with a spectacular mix of stunning lights, festive inflatables and decor. ●

Why girls who play sport go further and how co-ed schools like Reddam House North Shore give them the edge
hen Year 10 Reddam House
“SPORT IS WHERE MANY GIRLS FIRST LEARN TO SPEAK UP, TAKE RISKS AND BOUNCE BACK”
WNorth Shore student Kirsty Xue steps on to the fencing piste, she’s focused, fearless and ready to lead. A frequent national competition medal-winner who’s represented Australia in the Women’s Foil, proud Reddam pupil Kirsty credits her sport with teaching her more than just precision and footwork.
“Sport is where many girls first learn to speak up, take risks and bounce back,” she says. “That confidence carries into everything else from the classroom to friendships and how I approach challenges in life.”
According to a growing body of research, Kirsty’s not alone. A recent UK study reported by The Guardian found that girls who participate in organised sport after school are 50% more likely to reach senior professional positions later in life. Similarly, the EY Women Athletes Business Network revealed that 94% of female executives played sport when they were younger, with almost 75% of them believing it fast-tracked their careers. Two-thirds of those questioned also said a candidate’s sporting background would positively influence hiring decisions. The co-ed advantage Sport builds leaders. It nurtures teamwork, confidence and resilience - the same qualities that define success beyond the playing field. And when girls develop these skills in a co-educational environment, the benefits are even greater. At Reddam House North Shore, sport is not simply an extracurricular pursuit.

The power of sport
Students at Reddam House North Shore can get involved in a range of sports from fencing to swimming, paddle boarding, dance, basketball, tennis and lots more.
It’s one of the school’s three foundational pillars, alongside Academic Excellence and the Creative and Performing Arts. This holistic approach shapes confident, well-rounded young people.
“Every student, regardless of gender, deserves the chance to develop courage, empathy and resilience through sport,” says Greg Elliott, Head of PDHPE and Sport at Reddam House North Shore. “We also deeply value the importance of physical movement for maintaining strong mental health and fostering social connection. When girls are given equal opportunity to boys on the sporting field, they learn to take initiative, hold their ground and lead with confidence. These skills carry into every aspect of life.”
At Reddam House North Shore, sport is a shared language of respect and teamwork. Girls learn to collaborate, compete and lead alongside boys in experiences that mirror real-world dynamics.
Facilities, opportunity and inclusion
From Early Learning to Senior School, Reddam House’s approach to sport is grounded in values-based education. Reddam House North Shore’s purpose-built
campus is designed to nurture both mind and body. With a multi-purpose sports hall, outdoor play terraces and access to premium local facilities, students can explore everything from fencing, tennis and swimming to touch football, dance and fitness training.

BBQ
Local foodie, TV presenter and cookbook author Will Stewart fires up the grill for this
twist on a family favourite
There’s something special about a fresh, barbequed chicken. Spatchcocking the bird means that it can be cooked easily on the BBQ and your local butcher should be able to help if you don’t feel confident trying it yourself. I’ve served this dish on a corn hummus inspired by
Elote, a Mexican street food of barbequed corn with flavours of warm chilli and zesty lime. I’ve pickled some veg to complement it, the sweet and sour flavours nicely cutting through the richness of the hummus. Leftover pickles can be stored in an airtight jar in the fridge and extra hummus is great in sandwiches or wraps. Enjoy!

METHOD:
• Begin by making the pickles. Put all the simple pickling liquid ingredients into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Turn off the heat. Place all the vegetables in a large bowl then strain the liquid over them to cover and begin pickling. Set aside to cool and discard the aromats.
• Mix melted butter with minced garlic.
• Heat the BBQ to a medium heat and cook the chicken for 10 minutes, turning regularly and basting with the garlic butter until golden and slightly charred. After 10 minutes move the chicken away from the direct heat breast side up and close the lid of your BBQ. Cook for 35 mins or until the juices run clear when the
chicken is pierced with a knife. Remove from the heat, cover and rest for 10 minutes.
• To make the hummus, place ingredients into a food processor and blitz until to your preferred consistency. Season to taste with salt and pepper. I like to keep the texture quite rustic but simply add more olive oil, or water, for a smoother consistency.
• Serve the chicken on a bed of the hummus with a side of the pickles. Perhaps with some barbequed corn cobs and fresh pita or flat breads. Just delicious.
To spatchcock your chicken, place the bird breast side down on a chopping board. Using strong kitchen scissors, remove the spine out by cutting along either side of it down the length of the chicken. Turn the bird over and with a flat hand, press down firmly to break the wishbone and flatten.

For our pets, the warmer months can bring a few extra risks. Here are some simple ways to make sure you and your furry friend enjoy a safe, relaxing summer together.
Heatstroke & Hot Pavements
Dogs and cats can quickly overheat, especially flat-faced breeds, seniors, or pets exercising during the day. Always walk your dog early or late, provide shade and cool water, and never leave pets in cars. Before walking, do the hand test. If you can’t hold your hand on the pavement for five seconds, it’s too hot for their paws. Stick to grassy or shaded paths whenever possible.
Tick Awareness
Paralysis ticks are common across the North Shore and thrive in warm, humid weather. Check your pet daily, especially around the face, ears, and under collars. Use reliable tick prevention recommended by your vet. If you need help, we can always advise on the most effective treatment for your pet. See your vet straight away if you notice weakness, vomiting, or breathing di culties.
Water Safety
Even confident swimmers can tire quickly or panic if they can’t find an exit. Always supervise around pools, rinse off salt or chlorine, and teach your pet where the safe exits are. It could save their life! Watch for near-drowning signs like coughing, lethargy, or breathing trouble hours a er swimming. Unlike humans, pets can sometimes show delayed symptoms.
Festive Season Hazards
Keep Christmas treats, decorations, and party foods out of reach, and create a calm space during fireworks.
This summer, keep your pets cool, safe, and happy with The Village Vet.

Ted the Puggle chats to fouryear-old Pug Doug, Chief Cuddle
O cer at The Village Vet in West Pymble and East Killara
‘I basically run the show around here’
TED: Hi Doug! What’s your job title when you’re at the Village Vet practice and what do you do in a day?
DOUG: I’m Chief Cuddle Officer and it’s a very demanding role. My days are packed with client relations (belly rubs), emotional support for the nurses and supervising treat distribution. Occasionally I help with team morale by snoring loudly during staff meetings.
T: You’re a bit of a local pup-fluencer with starring roles on the Village Vet’s socials. What’s it like being in front of the camera?
D: Well, I’m adorable and I think everyone can see that! One day I was just chilling on the lounge when the marketing guy grabbed me, took me down to the clinic and strapped a GoPro to my head and we did a mockup consult with my paw-rent, Dr Martine. Since then, every other day there’s a camera in my face and I have to look cute (which, let’s face it...is pretty easy for me). These days,
The pug life
Pugs and kisses - People just can’t resist me when I do the puppy dog eyes and offer them a cuddle.
I basically run the show down there. The humans might think they’re in charge, but let’s be honest…it’s my clinic now.
T: What do you like best about film work?
D: Definitely the snacks and the applause. Every good performance deserves a reward, and by “reward,” I mean treats! And lots of them! How many other pets can say they actually earn their keep around the house?
T: What’s it like having a vet as a paw-rent? Bet you can’t fake a limp for extra treats!
D: Mum might be a great vet, but she definitely doesn’t do what I hear her telling her clients haha. I can get away with whatever I want! Sure, she spots every limp, sneeze or snack theft but somehow I still end up with cuddles and treats. Let’s just say I run the show at home as well as at the clinic.
T: Any advice for adopting a pup like you?
D: Be patient, some of us need time to learn to trust. Give us structure, love and snacks
From left; here’s me in my very own sunnies; being chauffered by my servant, sorry, pawrent, Dr Martine; and making a personal appearance at the Village Vet for Halloween.
in equal measure. We’ll give you loyalty, laughter and endless cuddles in return.
T: Who’s your favourite co-worker at the Village Vet and do they share their lunch?
Definitely Mum! However, I like everyone. I show my care in many ways…sometimes by sitting on their feet and giving surprise kisses and occasionally by weeing on their chair to show just how much I like them.
T: What’s your favourite food and why?
D: Anything that’s not a vegetable. But honestly, I’ve even been known to eat those too. I use a technique my brothers call the vacuum cleaner, where I slide my whole face across the ground to get every last crumb. Efficiency is key I always say.
T: I’m sure you’re a really good boy almost all the time, just like me, but what’s the naughtiest thing you’ve done?
D: Well…there was that time I performed what the team now calls an ‘unscheduled anal gland expression’ right on the brandnew receptionist at work’s lap. It was their first day, too. But what can you do? Welcome to The Village Vet, I say! The team still talk about it today.
T: Well that’s certainly one way to make your mark Doug! Thanks so much for making time in your busy day to chat. Will let you get back to your cuddle patrol and running the show. ●

Can pets pass illnesses to people?
It’s true that our furry friends can sometimes pass on more than muddy paws. These are called zoonotic diseases. While the risk is low, knowing the main ones and how to prevent them helps keep your family safe. Ringworm causes scaly, circular patches on pets and itchy, ring-shaped rashes on people. Prevent it by washing hands after touching pets and cleaning bedding regularly.
Intestinal worms are common in dogs and cats and are a risk for children playing in the garden. Routine worming treatment and prompt clean-up of droppings provides the best protection.
Cat-scratch disease, caused by Bartonella bacteria carried by kittens, spreads through scratches or bites. Reduce risk with flea control, trimming claws and washing injuries immediately.
Toxoplasmosis is often linked with cat litter, though more often comes from undercooked meat or shellfish. Cleaning litter trays daily and wearing gloves for gardening provides peace of mind.
Leptospirosis is a serious rat-borne disease that’s re-emerged since 2019. Dogs are best protected through vaccination and avoiding stagnant water. Fleas and ticks are everyday pests, with paralysis ticks the biggest threat locally. Year-round prevention and daily checks are essential.
• With up-to-date parasite prevention, clean habits and regular vet care, all of these illnesses are easy to avoid. At The Village Vet, we’re here to help your pets and your family thrive. ●

From MasterChef to her kitchen table, Anastasia Zolotarev’s celebration of Eastern European cuisine goes full circle
Savouring the taste of a sour cherry or the aroma of coldpressed sunflower oil instantly transports northsider Anastasia Zolotarev thousands of kilometres away.
“I’m back at my late babushka Lida’s dacha (summerhouse) in her village in Belarus, where people sell delicious sour cherries from the side of the road” she says. “Or I’m in the golden sunflower fields of Ukraine, where my father grew up.”
Cherished memories like these, and a deep love of Eastern European food, form the foundation for Anastasia’s new recipe book, Sour Cherries and Sunflowers
“When I was thinking about the title of the book, I wanted to express nostalgia of home, cooking and ingredients,” she says. “These two beautiful ingredients came to mind straight away. They’re very meaningful to me.”
Born in Belarus, Anastasia moved to Ukraine with her family after the Soviet Union dissolved before they relocated to
“RECREATING THE FLAVOURS OF HOME WAS ONE WAY OF BRINGING FAMILY CLOSER” >>

A family table
Recipes in Anastasia’s book include roasted stuffed peppers packed with cheese, sour cream and herbs; fried hand pies filled with eggs, spinach, spring onion and dill, and a honey, walnut and soured cream cake.
Australia when she was six. Settling in Killara, she remembers childhood weekends centred around the kitchen, gathering friends and celebrating the flavours of Eastern Europe.
“The kitchen was the heart of the family and food was one of the things that connected us immediately with our roots,” Anastasia says.
“Back then you couldn’t WhatsApp or video call with family, so recreating the flavours of home was one way of bringing them closer.”
Her parents adapted traditional recipes and experimented with new ingredients, learning to make things like pot-set yoghurt, curd cheese and pâté from scratch. “If they couldn’t find specific ingredients, like blue fenugreek, a Georgian herb, for example, they’d adjust the recipe with the next best thing, adding coriander or more garlic,” Anastasia remembers. “Food is always evolving. It moves with people, it crosses borders and recipes adapt. Being in the kitchen, cooking, creating and enjoying meals with my family shaped so much of my childhood.”
“FOOD WAS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CONNECTED US WITH OUR ROOTS”
Anastasia’s career with food began in her late 20s when she appeared as a contestant on the Channel 10 show, MasterChef Australia
“MasterChef was so immersive,” she says. “You’re doing life as normal then you enter this intense, creative space. I just wanted to absorb it all and learn as much as possible. I’m so grateful for that experience.”
Stints doing work experience at some of Australia’s best restaurants, including Firedoor and Quay, followed, with Anastasia experimenting with flavours and techniques far removed from the home-cooked food of her heritage.
It was a trip to visit Belarus and Ukraine with her mum in 2017 that became a culinary turning point. “When we arrived in Kyiv I just couldn’t believe all the food,” Anastasia recalls. “And it suddenly hit me that I’d forgotten the food of my childhood. Why didn’t we talk about the food culture of Eastern Europe more? That moment changed my life. I knew then that I wanted to write a recipe book to share this food and to celebrate family and culture.”
Sour Cherries and Sunflowers was born, a modern collection of recipes showcasing dishes from Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania and beyond.
Anastasia in Belarus with her babushka Lida and Lida’s best friend, Monica.
“I was passionate about creating the book and wanted to have an understanding of each dish on a deeper level so I could write about it correctly,” Anastasia says. To do this, she enlisted the help of her parents and grandma, friends, and the local Eastern European community. “A lot of cooking and eating was involved!” she laughs. “I wanted to showcase original recipes in authentic ways, with the slight twists and adjustments that come as they evolve. It was a labour of love.”
Among the 80 recipes featured in the book, you’ll find recipes for iconic dishes including borscht, honey cake, and cabbage rolls, along with less well known dishes, such as fried hand pies packed with spinach, dill, eggs and spring onions, buckwheat pancakes and Ukrainian varenyky dumplings.
“I hope to inspire people to come together and give Eastern European food a go,” says Anastasia. “Food and cooking keeps memories alive. It’s how we can always bring our loved ones to the table, no matter where we are.” ●

Lovely on Sundays with live music. There’s outdoor seating and it’s a perfect place for a glass of wine and a catch up with friends.
My favourite place for coffee is…Pure Brew & Co, Gordon. I’ll have a flat white. Eric makes a fantastic coffee and all the staff are great. The best meal I’ve had in the area was at…Olea in Lindfield. I recently visited for dinner with my wife and had stuffed zucchini flowers, linguine gamberi and a nice glass of pinot grigio. The food was fresh and delicious and it was the perfect way to relax at the end of the week. If I want to have a beer or a wine, I go to… The Greengate, Killara for a refreshing lager out on the terrace.
If I want to enjoy a cocktail, I go to…Kipling’s Garage Bar, Turramurra for a margarita and delicious bar snacks. My favourite local takeaway is…Missing Spoon in Gordon and Wahroonga. I’ll order a Karaage Bento or Udon. There’s something for everyone in the family on the menu from healthy salad bowls to Korean fried chicken burgers.
My top three favourite local shops and services in the area are…AMAZONA Acai in Gordon – a favourite of my three kids and I’m sure they would consider themselves

My favourite spots for my pets include…Bert Oldfield Oval in Killara during off leash hours. There’s always dogs of all shapes and sizes ready to play with my labradoodle, Waffles, and german shepherd border collie cross rescue, Harry. My ideal day in the area would include… a morning coffee and walk with my family and the dogs to explore a park or walking
track. Then we’ll pick up some lovely fresh foods from local stores like Slow Breads in Roseville, Campbells Superior Meats in West Pymble and Pymble Garden Fresh, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon around the pool and BBQ. The secret spot I love to go to is…Du Plessy Pralin & Otello in Philip Mall, West Pymble. It’s a bit less secret after going viral earlier in the year for their chocolate mousse cake! Their handmade chocolates are delicious and just walking into the shop is a treat – the smell of chocolate is amazing! I love the area because… it’s such a great place for families. The schools are outstanding, the train line makes transport super convenient and there’s an abundance of wonderful outdoor spaces. One of the best parts of my job is helping families who want to make Ku-ring-gai their home and seeing how happy they are after settling into the area.
The words I’d use to describe this area are... Tranquil, verdant, convenient
