CA principios de este año, la Federación de Clubes Zacatecanos de Fort Worth celebró su 23.º aniversario, reuniendo a la comunidad migrante para honrar décadas de organización, identidad y orgullo. En el marco del evento, Emerald Ochoa representó a Club de Migrantes Unidos JAZ como candidata a reina. Obtuvo el segundo lugar y el título de Princesa de la Federación.
Emerald también es fundadora de Alianza Mexicana Ballet Folklórico, dedicada a preservar y compartir las tradiciones culturales de México a través de la danza. Alianza ha participado en Vivan los Muertos en Northside, presentado por Northside Community LLC y Northside Arts & Culture Inc.
ULTURA
Dan, known to many as “Megatron,” graduates from Northside High School this year, leaving a legacy of leadership and service.
A proud member of the mariachi program and featured in our Beyond the Stockyards Map, Dan carries culture forward through music. He has also led volunteers during Vivan los Muertos at Northside Rooted Urban Farm.
Beyond the stage and farm, Dan serves as an officer in the My Brother’s Keeper chapter and contributed to the painted design at Marine Skate Park through collaboration with local artists and organizations.
WHERE IN THE WORLD IS GRISELDA?
We first followed Griselda from Northside to Paris, then to Tokyo. The last clue we left for her next destination was “spirits of the blue,” leading us to Tequila, Mexico, home of the blue agave. Now she continues the journey alongside her sister Victoria, both proud Northsiders, carrying their roots with them wherever they go.

Día de los Muertos is one of Mexico’s most powerful cultural traditions, second only to its people. It turns loss into color, music, and memory, reminding us that remembering is an act of love.
Yet Latino culture still lacks space and visibility in many spaces. Too often our traditions are treated as decoration instead of living history.
Vivan los Muertos changes that.
Northside Community creates space to gather, build altars, share stories, and show up for one another, because culture lives when we do.
Because culture isn’t something we watch. It’s something we show up for.

Norma Sanchez has always carried Northside with her. Growing up in Fort Worth, she remembers weekends at the Stockyards, the music, the brick streets, and the pride of family and tradition. Northside is not just where she is from. It shaped who she is.
When Josh chose The Drover for the proposal, it felt right.
Their wedding day at Dove Ridge Vineyard reflected that same spirit. Elegant and joyful, every detail felt intentional and unmistakably theirs.
What made it unforgettable was the people. Friends and family showed up not just to attend, but to stand behind them. Because love, like community, is built together.

In recent years we’ve seen school closures, consolidations, and growing debate about state intervention in education. When decisions move farther from the neighborhood, families feel the impact first.
For many working families, long hours, language barriers, and unfamiliar systems can make schools feel distant or complicated. Education in the United States is not automatic. It requires presence, questions, and participation.
Staying informed. Asking questions. Building relationships with teachers. Seeking support in community. These are ways families remain involved in their children’s education.
“I graduated from the Fort Worth school district and proudly from Northside,” says Ashley Peek. “Our schools were the heart of the neighborhood.”
Across the country, some families are exploring additional ways to stay involved in learning, including community learning groups and homeschool cooperatives.
The future of our children’s education will reflect those willing to stay involved.

LGBTQ Saves: Espacios Seguros para Jóvenes
In the first half of 2025, LGBTQ SAVES has served nearly 700 youth through weekly check-ins, meetings, and events like The Prom Project and Youth Pride Picnic. These programs create safe spaces where young people can connect, be affirmed, and build confidence. Made possible by over 1,600 volunteer hours and strong community support, these programs continue to grow as the need increases.

Alex Alvarado, propietario de Riverside Barber Shop, organizó una jornada de cortes de cabello gratuitos y entrega de útiles escolares para el regreso a clases, brindando apoyo directo a familias que atraviesan momentos económicos difíciles en Texas, especialmente dentro de nuestra comunidad hispanohablante.

Northside Community estuvo presente para documentar este gesto de solidaridad que demuestra que el liderazgo también nace desde los negocios locales. Riverside Barber Shop no solo ofrece servicios; fortalece comunidad.

After winning a city tree grant, Comunidad 27 planted 23 trees. Months later, several were uprooted, raising questions about coordination between residents and city departments.
W. Long Avenue Tree Project Issue 3 → 2026 Update
Years of community effort and unanswered questions later, the W. Long Avenue project remains in progress. City updates shared with Northside Community Magazine indicate that traffic signals, sidewalks, and landscaping remain pending,
while a tree-planting plan is still being finalized with the Parks Department.
Current estimates place project completion and tree planting in 2026. We will continue to request updates and share them publicly.

Northside Arts & Culture Inc. is a community-led nonprofit based in Northside Fort Worth that advocates for equitable arts and cultural programming reflecting the Spanish-speaking and bilingual communities of District 2.
We organize events, build partnerships, and support cultural programming that reflects the lived experiences of Northside residents. Our flagship event, Vivan los Muertos, brings hundreds of neighbors together each year to celebrate heritage, memory, and creative expression.
We are currently building our founding board and inviting artists, organizers, small
business leaders, and culture workers to join us. We also welcome individuals with experience in nonprofit governance, fundraising, grant writing, legal, or finance who want to help strengthen the foundation of this work. This is an opportunity to help shape a new cultural institution rooted in District 2’s bilingual community.

AT DOXA DEVELOPMENT
neighbors turn stories into shared investment. At Doxa Dinners, small business owners, residents, and local supporters gather around one table to listen, ask questions, and collectively invest in a local entrepreneur.
It’s a simple way for Tarrant County neighbors to support small businesses, build relationships, and help local ideas take root and grow. Since 2017, Doxa has hosted 60 dinners, granted $134,000 directly into the hands of local entrepreneurs, and helped spark more than $12 million in economic impact for small businesses.
