To begin, there has never been a country under pure socialism that produces a net attraction to those seeking a better life, sans Sweden. That Nordic country just implemented a new Migration Policy last month, stricter than the previous policy.

It will require a minimum residency period, proof of living an orderly life, a requirement for you to be able to support yourself as well as requirements for knowledge of the Swedish language and Swedish society. WOW! That’s tougher than any U.S. policy I know of. You go there, you become at least part Swede. Could be worse.

Sweden is a democratic monarchy and doubles as a welfare state (socialism) in which all citizens are granted universal health care and paid leave and other benefits but even a revised tax base makes it different than the United States. However, Sweden, like much of mainland Europe, has succumbed to the guilt and spineless policies that today torment countries like Ireland, Germany and England. This new policy comes from watching what Sweden had become over the past two decades with many too-common open door policies and ultra-liberal viewpoints that exist in other countries creating a crisis situation in that once pristine nation. Time will tell if this new Swedish Migration Policy will be effective or too late to stop the problems Sweden has faced similar to ours.

Back to stupid U.S. capitalistic stooge, Comrade. Dumb and criminal immigration policies and a feckless Democratic Party have set the stage for a nearmiss showdown this fall when BIG TENT Democrats face off against BIG RENT Republicans. • Know how much water your landscape needs prior to turning on the sprinkler. You can find information online about evapotranspiration (ET) rates for specific areas. ET rates describe the speed at which water transfers from the earth’s surface into the atmosphere, considering water loss through soil evaporation and plant transpiration.

• Apply supplemental irrigation early in the morning to maximize water uptake by plants and prevent loss due to evaporation.

• Generally, all plants can survive with 1 inch of rain per week. Calibrate and check your sprinkler system by measuring the volume applied during each event. Take notes and adjust the minimum amount needed to maintain decent health and vigor.

• Turn off sprinklers when surface water starts to pool to prevent overwatering, weed growth, disease, and storm water runoff.

• Use efficient sprinklers that apply water directly to the soil to minimize waste. Soaker hoses and drip hoses are much more efficient at minimizing waste than overhead types.

Look for the “WaterSense” to feel good that you are using a product that meets the EPA’s criteria for efficient water use.

• Maintain a 3-4 inch layer of mulch covering the soil in landscape beds and under the canopies of landscape trees. The concept is derived from the forest floor seen in nature and there are many benefits to using it such as preventing evaporation of soil water, managing soil temperature, and replenishing topsoil with organic matter.

Hi, Everyone!

Hope you all are doing well and staying cool. With all the rain we have had it is nice to see the sun again.I am Not complaining about either one. The rain has helped the vegetable and flower gardens and so has the sunshine. I must admit I did get drenched more than a couple of times running from the house to the SUV. The rain actually felt nice, reminding me of those days when I was a kid. Those were good times. So I decided to do something bright and happy.

This little bee is hanging onto the stem of this flower causing the stem to bend. His hive is built on a very uneven piece of ground that has a lot of rocks in it. But that doesn’t seem to bother him at all as he has a lot of colorful flowers surrounding his home.

This was such a fun piece to paint, especially the background. Base coated the surface with Province Sky, then I lightly stenciled some flowers in the background with Snow White. Then I painted the hive, moved on to the bee, the flowers and leaves were next, and finally the lettering. This was so much fun! I am going dig through my stash to see if I have other bright, colorful patterns that will keep me in a good mood!

Well, that’s my project for this time. What will your next project be? Mine....I don’t know, but I know it will be lots of fun!

TIGERS AVOID DRAFT SUCTION; LOOK SET IN THE OUTFIELD The 2026 Major League Baseball Draft usually treats the incoming LSU class like a corn shucker treats a husk. But this year, only three incoming high schoolers were chosen in the first two rounds and it appears the NIL money for the rest of the country’s number two incoming class will not deter any others from heading to Baton Rouge for the 2027 season. Signing money has been partially offset by NIL dollars and an 18-year old coming out of high school could make a heck of a lot more money and not ride the minor league train for years if they choose a program like LSU. Plus, the Majors are drafting more college players now with the training and facilities existing in the majority of college programs The Tiger’s most potent potential hitters were at high risk. Both Dominic Santarelli and MalachiWashington were projected hight first to at least early second round picks. But these corner outfielders should be in the starting lineup next winter when LSU fills out its first roster sheet. Whoever starts in center will be a step or two below Derek Curiel, the first outfielder taken in the draft by Pittsburg at number five. Only William Patrick returns as an LSU outfielder and has very limited experience. But either he, Washington or Santarelli will try to take the place of Curiel. The Tigers had three players chosen on Saturday, none of whom were expected to return in 2027 and no other outfielder sans Curiel.

LSU secured a solid class of corner infielders and pitching with starter potential from both sides of the mound.

Their top pitching prospect, Logan Schmidt, a lefty and 6’7” Jensen Hirschkorn, a major league ready body with three effective offerings including a 97 mile per hour fastball, both were drafted but ten other hurlers will be in Baton Rouge for the start of preseason 2027.

LSU biggest need will be to find a center fielder for the depared Curiel. They have the deepest catching corps in college baseball with two versatile backstops able to play in the field or hit as a designated hitter. LSU lost a lot of roster this year but keeping Steven Milam at shortstop gives them a potential first-team All-SEC player with lots of experience and hustle.

Annual weeds are usually easier to manage than established perennial weeds.

To begin solarizing a garden bed, prepare the area by smoothing the soil surface and removing large clods, plant debris, and other materials that could prevent the plastic from making close contact with the soil. Moisture is essential because wet soil transfers heat more effectively. The soil should be watered thoroughly to a depth of at least 12 inches before covering. In raised beds, drip irrigation can help maintain the moisture needed during the solarization process.

Clear plastic is the best choice because it allows sunlight to pass through and become trapped beneath the covering. Thin plastic, around 1 millimeter thick, provides excellent heating but is more likely to tear. Slightly thicker plastic, around 2 millimeters, may be a better option in windy areas.

When installing the plastic, the goal is to create a tight seal against the soil. In garden beds, this can be done by digging a shallow trench around the area, placing the edges of the plastic into the trench, and covering them with soil. For raised beds, plastic can be secured using staples or screws with wooden strips to help prevent tearing.

The goal of soil solarization is to maintain soil temperatures in the upper 6 inches at approximately 110°F to 125°F or higher each day. A soil temperature probe can help gardeners monitor conditions and ensure the process is working effectively.

Once solarization is complete, remove the plastic carefully and avoid unnecessary soil disturbance.

Turning the soil can bring weed seeds from deeper layers back to the surface where they may germinate.

With proper preparation and timing, soil solarization can be an effective, environmentally friendly tool for creating healthier garden soil and stronger plants.

Summer, Three kittens, 7-8 months old, found on a country road along with two adult cats. No one knew where they came from. One adult had an injured leg. All 5 were taken in by a family who could not bear to see them out there frightened and hungry. How did this little group of cats suddenly appear on their road? No one around there had ever seen them before. More than likely they were abandoned there by someone who did not want them and really did not care what happened to them. How sad for the cats! And how hard on the people who do care about animals. Suddenly this family with cats and dogs of their own had to find room in their home for 5 new pets. They paid to take the two adults to their veterinarian for care but they have asked START to help with the three younger ones. We will spay/neuter, test and vaccinate them. And find homes for them, too. START depends on funds donated by the public to help us care for stray and abandoned pets. Please visit our website and donate to help us help these animals.
