America is going through a full metal strait jacket this year as the first President to kick Iran’s torrorist regime in the nuts is having to go through an hourly attack from people once thought to be true Americans.
Donald Trump has to take a lot of crap from generations of “sit-on-the-sidelines” politicians, media and activists who know no other mantra than to dump on a guy who, honestly, sometimes deserves it but 90% of the time is correct in his actions.
We’ve taken political give and take out of civilization over the past 20 years or so as the extremists have hijacked the Democratic Party and radical conservatives have, at best, muddied the waters for any useful action by the Republican Party. What is clear, however, is that neither group gave a rat’s ass or had the cojones to do what was necessary nearly 50 years ago when the cradle of civilization allowed the most uncivilized extremists to take over its destiny. So, as a popular local restaurant says “Shout Up and Drink” meaning in this case “shut up since you never did jack to correct the problem that led us to perhaps the most dangerous nuclear scenario since the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.” Comprende’?
The first seven years of my life were spent in the Haight. Not hate. The Haight Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco, made notorious during the late ’60’s Hippy era. We were a happy group, liberal and conservative, with spillovers both ways, both bohemian and Bostonian. Most people in cities were like that, including Chicago and New York, where borough and ward rudeness and abruptness was sometimes misread at hatred. Not so. America was pretty much like that as well.
Which brings me straight to the point. The Strait of Hormuz. That southern choke point, barely wider the the length of the Causeway bridge or the distance from Catalina Island to the shores of Los Angeles. 25% of the world’s oil passes through a pair of two mile wide channels from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Donald Trump wants it controlled by someone not extremist Iranian. America has done in six weeks enough to convince any civilized society to acquiesce and understand their mindset would not prevail based on a most foul subset of Islam or Muslim beliefs in a world where most growth and understanding has come from Christians, Hindus, Jews and Buddists.
That brings me to another point. How can the world’s fastest growing religion (Islam) allow their haters to control their population? How can the world exist for those who would wipeout anyone not thinking their way? How indeed. Because hatred is such a powerful tool that it does not sleep while others rest from the fatigue of fighting it. However, love with pupose, with definition, with resolve and the will to prevail does present a stronger force in nature and in belief.
Look at Israel. There is a perfect example of what love, forged in fire and trial, can do. All of extreme Islam can’t do anything to weaken their resolve. Generations of persecution, culminating with the German atrocities of the 1930’s and ’40’s, created the lodestone of Israeli power. Stronger than their enemies. And they don’t sacrifice their citizens for the evil will of the regime.
For those thinking America is going straight to hell, either change your thought process or your actions…or both. I hate a plunging stock market and higher oil prices but President Trump, I believe, has the power to order our petroleum companies to freeze prices for the short haul. Our producers still have all their product that can be safely refined and marketed and we shouldn’t have to pay a higher price for international consumerism intrigue. Keep oil prices low and steady in the U.S. and the stock market will not ride the roller coaster as it has since early March. We don’t sacrifice much as a nation in the history of what most nations have lived through within their borders. We pay more than our share to keep the world on a more even keel and we keep Socialism from completely enveloping the American Dream. And that’s what the Iranian regime and their proxies want to kill more than any organized religion.
Our beacon must continue to shine and it’s up to all of us to keep it going with the same discipline, resolve and willpower as our enemies. -0-

As we start to warm up across the region, the water requirement of plants will increase. Especially since all our deciduous plants have started putting out new leaves for the season. It’s easy to forget that photosynthesis takes place inside plant leaves and there needs to be a consistent supply of water for that process to proceed without interruption. Plants also use water to help manage heat stress. The situation turns critical when Mother Nature doesn’t provide adequate rainfall. Now that it’s starting to warm up, continue reading below for irrigation practices that will help your garden plants survive the warm season.
Use organic mulches in flowerbeds and around trees to insulate the soil and prevent excess water evaporation. There are several different types of mulches available for sale including pine bark, pine straw, colored hardwood chips, and cypress bark, but feel free to use fallen leaves if they are available. Choose a color and texture that works best with your landscape and apply a 3-4 inch layer above the root zone for maximum effect. The eventually breakdown of organic mulches will provide nutrients and help with depleted, compacted soil over time.
Irrigation systems can make lifer easier while supplementing irrigation. There are many different types of applicators including drippers, micro sprays, and drip tape. Irrigation systems can be made custom to almost every situation. Applicators that apply water directly to the soil are more efficient than overhead types. For larger shrubs and trees, people have been successful using a garden hose set at a trickle and allowing it to soak the immediate root zone for several hours. Adjust irrigation systems to run in the early AM. Plants take up more water during the first half of the day than at the end of the day. In addition, watering in the morning allows for excess leaf moisture to evaporate throughout the day, preventing many disease issues.
Adjust irrigation system frequency to water for longer periods of time, not so often. Deep waterings followed by dry conditions promote expansive root systems, which in turn make plants drought resistant. Short daily irrigation intervals encourage shallow root systems and should be avoided. Routinely inspect irrigation systems for leaks and proper working spray heads. Most systems are designed with flushable enclosures. It is a good idea to flush the system from time to time to clear any debris that might have found its way inside.
Keep a watchful eye on container plantings. Container soil is designed to be very well-drained and will be subject to drying out more often than native soil. A simple water breaker and wand are great tools that allow you to reach in and around potted plants. Thoroughly soak with water until it drains from the bottom of the container.
Check weather forecasts. Watering the garden before a rainfall event can improve water penetration into soil. Extremely dry surfaces can become hydrophobic and repel water. Moisten with water to overcome any issues with an extremely dry soil layer.

Hope you all had a peaceful and Blessed Easter with family and friends. My family and I had a wonderful Easter. This year, Easter fell on my grandson’s birthday! The only thing he wanted for his birthday was to have his sister home from college for the weekend, also for her to bake him a Red Velvet cake, for us to bar b que and have friends over, and to end the evening with everyone going to the bowling alley for a few games. Well, he got everything he asked for. In Fact, his sister made his cake from scratch! No boxed cake mix for her Big Brother! It was a wonderful day! Everyone had a great time. I decided I would skip the Bowling Alley festivities and head on home to sit on the sofa with the cat and let the TV watch us!

Now, let me tell you about today’s project. Whoever said you can’t make centerpieces with flowers from your yard never planted any, or went to the store and picked up a pack of spray roses, baby breath, and greenery. This was so simple to make. The container is a 9” wide mouth Bud Vase. you can pick any vase with the opening small enough to accommodate 2 to 3 spray rose stems, 2 stems of greenery, and 1 stem of baby breath. After the first stem to the height I wanted I placed it and 1 piece of greenery in the vase.I then added some baby breath in front, beside, and between the roses. I then added a second stem of greenery and the second stem of spray roses. Adjusted them as needed and added the baby breath in the same fashion as before. You could add a ribbon to the vase if you would like. This is very simple to make and really dresses up a table for a featured “Red Velvet Cake”. Maybe I should have put the picture of the cake here instead of the flowers. But, my granddaughter and her boyfriend are at the rodeo tonight so I can’t ask her permission. Oh well!
That’s my project for this. So what will your next project be? Mine....I don’t know. But I know it will be lots of fun!

Well, even though I was asked to do an article about the LSU Baseball team, I did not really want to get into that at this moment so I pivoted to doing my yearly NFL Draft Projection!
1.) Las Vegas Raiders — Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana
This is the easiest call in the draft. The Raiders’ biggest need is quarterback, and Mendoza is the consensus No. 1 in mocks and big boards.
2.) New York Jets — Arvell Reese, EDGE/LB, Ohio State
A lot of mock traffic now points here. Even in mocks that disagree elsewhere, Reese is one of the most stable top-two names.
3.) Arizona Cardinals — Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami
This is one of the shakier spots, but tackle has real momentum here. Some mocks go David Bailey or even quarterback in alternate universes, yet Mauigoa keeps showing up near the top and Arizona fits the premium-position logic.
Love is the wild card who could break the board. He is now heavily linked to Tennessee in late-cycle chatter, even if some mocks prefer a receiver or pass rusher.
5.) New York Giants — Sonny Styles, LB/S, Ohio State
This feels like one of the cleaner team-player matches in the top 10. Multiple mock-roundup sources point to Styles landing here more than anywhere else.
6.) Cleveland Browns — Spencer Fano, OT, Utah
The Browns sit in a spot where many mocks pivot to offensive line value, and Fano is one of the linemen most commonly discussed as a top-six player.
7.) Washington Commanders — Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State
Washington is the toughest top-10 team because mocks are split among Love, Downs, David Bailey, and Tate. My lean is Downs because he consistently appears as one of the top two or three Commanders outcomes and offers a cleaner value/need blend if Love is gone.
8.) New Orleans Saints — Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio State
The Saints are being tied to multiple receivers, and Tate has become one of the safest top-10 WR projections anywhere in the market. This slot lines up with both need and consensus momentum. Even though I do not agree with this pick and or want another Ohio State selection here this is the consensus, however I do hope that the Saints go with LSUs Delane here.
9.) Kansas City Chiefs — Rueben Bain Jr., EDGE, Miami
Kansas City at 9 is one of the stranger board positions, but Bain is the kind of value slide mocks love to end. He is widely seen as a top-tier edge talent even if the exact landing spot varies.
10.) Cincinnati Bengals — Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU Delane has real top-10 steam and fits a Bengals defense that needs more difference-makers on the back end.
11.) Miami Dolphins — Makai Lemon, WR, USC Lemon is one of the receivers whose range starts around here, and Miami is regularly discussed as a team that could add explosiveness outside.
12.) Dallas Cowboys — David Bailey, EDGE, Texas Tech
If Bailey falls out of the top 10, Dallas is a logical stop. He has top-five buzz in some mocks but also enough variability to slip into this range.
13.) Los Angeles Rams (from Falcons) — Olaivavega Ioane, OT/IOL, Penn State Ioane has been one of the steadier first-round offensive line projections in team-specific roundup coverage, and this is a strong value pocket for him.
14.) Baltimore Ravens — Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee Baltimore almost always makes sense for corners with length and recovery speed, and McCoy’s medical/ ACL concerns are no longer scaring everyone off.
15.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Peter Woods, DT, Clemson Woods’ stock has had some variance, but he remains a first-round talent and this is the kind of range where interior disruptors usually settle.
16.) New York Jets (from Colts) — Carnell Tate if available; otherwise Caleb Banks, DT, Florida Because I already have Tate off the board at 8, I’ll slot Caleb Banks here as a value/need play. But this is exactly the kind of pick that could flip depending on how the top 10 unfolds.
17.) Detroit Lions — Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, S, Toledo Detroit-specific mock chatter has started connecting the Lions/Bears/NFC North range to McNeil-Warren. He is a classic riser into the late teens or 20s.
The Vikings have been tied to safety help repeatedly, and this is a good landing range for that tier of defensive back.
19.) Carolina Panthers — Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon
This is one of the clearest team-specific links in the late teens. Sadiq has a real chance to go earlier than casual fans expect.
20.) Dallas Cowboys (from Packers) — Jermod Iverson McCoy, CB, Tennessee Dallas has two firsts and multiple defensive holes. Corner here is a very believable use of the second pick if edge goes first.
21.) Pittsburgh Steelers — Dani Dennis-Sutton, EDGE, Penn State
This is a classic Steelers type of pick: front-seven athlete, major upside, regional familiarity.
22.) Los Angeles Chargers — Keldric Faulk, EDGE, Auburn
The Chargers in the 20s are a natural landing spot for one of the second-wave edge rushers, and Faulk fits that bucket.
23.) Philadelphia Eagles — Drew Allar, QB, Penn State
This is the kind of swing only the Eagles routinely make, and NFL.com’s mock ecosystem has already floated Philadelphia as a team that could make one of Round 1’s biggest quarterback splashes.
24.) Cleveland Browns (from Jaguars) — Makai Lemon if available; otherwise Peter Woods-type value
With Lemon already gone in this projection, I’ll give Cleveland Christen Miller, DT, Georgia here as a second premium-trench investment. This is a flexible pick and one of the hardest to pin down.
25.) Chicago Bears — Emmanuel McNeil-Warren if available; otherwise Kayden McDonald, DT, Ohio State
Since I placed McNeil-Warren earlier, I’ll put Kayden McDonald here. Chicago-specific mock chatter has them focusing heavily on the defensive front and secondary.
26.) Buffalo Bills — KC Concepcion, WR, Texas A&M
Buffalo has been linked to adding another receiving weapon in some NFL.com mock setups, and this range makes sense for a versatile separator.
27.) San Francisco 49ers — Trey Zuhn III, OT, Texas A&M
The 49ers need more playmakers and trench depth, and late first feels like the sweet spot for a plug-andplay lineman.
28.) Houston Texans — Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson Houston in the late 20s can simply take one of the best remaining corners. Terrell fits the value board and positional premium.
29.) Los Angeles Rams — Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State
This is a classic Rams move: polished receiver, instant role, good value at the back of Round 1.
30.) Denver Broncos — Travis Burke, OT, Memphis Burke has enough buzz to sneak into Round 1, especially for a contender that wants a mauler with tackle flexibility.
31.) New England Patriots — Khalil Jacobs, LB, Missouri
This is earlier than many public boards, but New England’s pre-draft interest has been notable, and the Patriots are one of the teams most likely to buck consensus.
32.) Seattle Seahawks — Isaiah World, OT, Oregon Seattle at the end of Round 1 feels like a premium-traits tackle spot. If not tackle, edge would be the other strong bet

The Japanese maple, Acer palmatum, is a short tree in the maple family (Sapindaceae). It is native to southeast Korea and central and south Japan where it grows as an understory tree and noted for having many aesthetically pleasing forms. Weeping as well as upright varieties exist, and the species is well noted for its beautiful deep red and orange summer color that deepens into the fall. Acer is Latin for sharp and palmatum means shaped like a hand, referring to the leaves.
Although there are many aesthetically pleasing Japanese maple varieties, the Bloodgood Japanese maple, Acer palmatum “Bloodgood” is one of the hardiest varie-ties. It is a large deciduous shrub or small tree. It gets its name from Bloodgood Nurse-ry on Long Island, New York where it was initially sold prior to World War II. It can grow up to 20 feet tall and wide and has a slow to moderate growth rate. The shape is round, broad, and upright with dense spreading branches. It prefers well-drained acidic soils with good air circulation. You can plant higher or in a raised bed in heavy clay soil for better drainage. It is easy to plant from nursery containers and requires mini-mum nutrients.
The Bloodgood can tolerate direct sun in northern areas. In southern areas, it prefers partial shade to avoid leaf sun scorch during the hot dry summers, which has been noted on many varieties planted in full sun here on the Coast. It does leaf out early and may be damaged by spring frosts. You can prune in February when it is dormant to alter the shape if desired. Propagation is done through grafting and stem cutting.
This is a popular Japanese maple because the leaves are red throughout the summer except in hot dry areas where they may be greenish red. In addition to the sea-sonal leaf colors, it provides winter interest with its muscular-looking multi-trunks and layered branching structure.
The Bloodgood can be grown in a container or as a specimen in the ground. Due to its small size, you can plant it along walkways and patios. It can also be used as an understory tree. The roots are noncompetitive, and you can place other plants around it.
