Greetings, Fellow Members!
The Annual Meeting was held March 31 and was well attended by over 100 members. For those who missed the meeting, I want to use my April Newsletter message to summarize the important points of the meeting.
First, you can watch the video of the meeting by clicking here. There was also a question and answer period that followed the presentations. We recorded that part of the meeting as well, but it was difficult to hear the questions since many members did not use a microphone. We captured all the questions, however, and you can read the questions and answers by clicking here.
For those who missed the meeting, we covered five main topics:
• Initiatives Management has taken based on the Food & Beverage Survey
• Golf Course conditions, course care and the 90-degree golf cart policy
• A brief update on the recent filming that took place on our course
• Our audited club financials for 2025
• The Capital Needs Study conducted by Club Benchmarking and the need for capital dues

I think it’s safe to say the topic that generated the most interest was the Capital Needs Study conducted by Club Benchmarking. Eric Gregory, Executive Director, West Coast, for Club Benchmarking was kind enough to walk us through the Capital Needs study and I highly encourage everyone to view his presentation and slides. Club Benchmarking does similar work for over 500 private clubs.
The bottom line is our Club has never funded a capital account for our future needs in our 50 year history. In March of 2022 the membership voted to establish a capital fund, but the membership did NOT approve the suggested $175 per month capital dues. At that time, the membership feedback was they didn’t have a clear view of how that money would be spent, so they rejected the proposed dues amount. The Capital Needs study now gives us the road map on what assets need to be replaced and when. They evaluated every asset owned by the Club worth $2,500 or higher with a useful life of 3 years or more. The study indicated we would need $259 per month per Full member to replace the things we already own. The Finance Committee, the Capital Dues subcommittee and the Board evaluated several different scenarios. We landed on the proposal shown in the grid below. We start at $100 per month per Full member starting in July. We increase that amount $50 per month per year starting in January 2027 and continuing with January 2028 and 2029. The amount is capped at $250 per month after that.
The Bylaws allow the Board to simply raise dues to fund the capital account without a vote from the membership. We don’t want to do that. After much discussion, the Board decided that getting buy-in from the membership and getting membership approval is the preferred course of action. That is why we had the Capital Needs study done, so we could be completely transparent about what our needs are and how the money would be spent. You may ask yourself, if the study said we need $259 per month, why are we only asking for $100 per month with $50 increments over the next three years? The answer is we received a substantial amount of money for the filming project, most of which is going directly into the capital account. We have also been holding over $1 million in cash in our operating fund because we haven’t properly funded a capital account. The Capital Needs study did not include us funding these amounts into the capital account. When we update the model including these amounts, along with the stair step funding approach from members, we can sufficiently cover our needs and we require less from our members.
So what happens next? We had the Annual Meeting March 31. We have scheduled two town hall meetings on Monday, April 6 at 4 PM and Thursday April 9 at 10 AM to give members who missed the Annual Meeting an opportunity to review the same materials presented. Next, we will put out a notice informing members of the voting process around May 1, using the same independent third-party service we use for Board elections. Voting will start around June 1 and continue through June 15. This timeline should give members the proper time to review all the relevant materials, ask any questions, and understand the need and logic for funding a capital account which 80% of private clubs have and we genuinely need.

Spring is in the Air: Kids Growing with Club Etiquette
With spring in full bloom, the club is buzzing with NRCC families enjoying the outdoors and club amenities. It’s also a wonderful time for children and grandchildren to be part of club life, as we are reminded of the importance of nurturing positive habits and club etiquette.
As children grow, understanding where they are permitted and when supervision is required becomes essential. Here are some helpful highlights of our age restrictions and guidelines, designed to ensure an enjoyable club experience for everyone.
JACUZZI
• The jacuzzi is reserved for adults and children 12 and older. Parents and guardians must help reinforce this policy. This is a safety and liability issue. Failure to follow this policy is a violation of the Club’s Rules, and consequences will be enforced.
POOL
• Must be at least 16 years old to use pool facilities without an adult member present. Parents must actively supervise all children under 16 and be physically present on the pool deck area.
GOLF
• Children under 13 are not permitted to use the driving range, practice areas, or golf course unless accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible member.
• Children under 18 are not permitted to use the Golf Men’s and Ladies’ Lounges.
FIREPITS
• Must be at least 18 years old to use the firepit areas.
GYM
• Must be at least 16 years old to use the gym facilities.
RACQUETS
• Junior tennis players may be on-site without an adult if they are actively participating in a tennis camp, private lesson, or engaged in a match on the courts.
• Children 8 and under are not permitted on the tennis/ pickleball courts unless they are directly supervised on the court by a non-playing adult.
RESTAURANT
• A key part of creating an enjoyable dining experience for everyone is helping children understand the importance of remaining seated during meals. While it’s natural for kids to feel energetic and excited, the dining areas are a shared dining space where seated behavior ensures comfort and safety for members and staff.
• For children ages 3-10 who are eager to play and burn off some energy, we encourage families to take advantage of the Acorn Club, where they can enjoy supervised activities in a fun, appropriate setting.
• Members must be at least 21 years old to sit at the bar. Individuals under the age of 21 are not permitted to possess or consume alcoholic beverages on club premises, and violations will result in permanent removal from the club.
Parents, guardians, and grandparents are responsible for ensuring that children understand and follow all club rules and expectations. With guidance and care, our younger members can fully enjoy the club while growing into respectful and responsible participants in our community. Here’s to a season of sunshine and NRCC memories that will last a lifetime.

Dear North Ranch Members,
It sure has felt like summer throughout March, with the pool and Athletic Center active, it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the Club. We have put out a new kids slide by the kids’ pool for our younger members to enjoy on the weekends when we anticipate having warmer weather. As a reminder, our lifeguards do not start until school is almost out around Memorial Day, and we appreciate parental supervision to keep safety a top priority.
As mentioned at the Annual Meeting, the food and beverage team is actively working on the areas for improvement that was identified from the recent food and beverage survey.
Areas of focus are:
• Menu (variety, consistency, presentation, and value) through rotating the menus in all outlets regularly, every two weeks offer new specials, focus on healthy options available, and addressing kitchen infrastructure to improve consistency.
• Service (speed of service and accuracy of orders) by enhanced staff training in both the front of the house and kitchen, adjusting the sequence of service and staff member expectations, and timing and tracking how long it takes when an order is rung up and when it is served.
• Events (family, adult, number per month, and variety) by ensuring we have a good mix of events monthly, offering fresh new events throughout the year, as well as focusing on the price we are charging and making sure we have a wide array of price points.
We thank you for your feedback; this is how we improve. Please continue to provide your thoughts when you are able to through SevenRooms. We read each and every comment and rating.
As a reminder the Men’s and Women’s Golf lounges are for ages 18 and older. When our younger members need to use the restroom, please have them enter through the hallway by the stairs.
Our Director of Facilities, Brian McMurtry, just returned from an incredible trip to Patagonia. He traveled with a couple of friends and hiked out to the glaciers. Some of the photos he was able to capture are truly breathtaking. The department head team has a tradition that we take the North Ranch flag on amazing trips and this flag has seen incredible parts of the world. If you see Brian around the Club, be sure to ask him about his incredible trip! He would be delighted to share a story or two and more beautiful photos!

As we continue to enjoy a vibrant season at the Club, we would like to take a moment to share a few thoughtful reminders that help preserve the elevated experience our members value and appreciate.
For a quick overview of the Athletic Center guidelines, please click here to view our video.
Within the fitness center, we kindly ask that all equipment, including free weights and accessories, are returned to their proper place after use. Maintaining an orderly space supports both safety and a seamless experience for all.
For health and safety considerations, children are not permitted in the Jacuzzi at any time. We greatly appreciate your understanding in helping us uphold this standard.
We also kindly remind parents and guardians that children should be actively supervised while utilizing the Club’s facilities. Lifeguard coverage will resume over Memorial Day Weekend. However, attentive parental oversight remains essential at all times.
When hosting guests, we are pleased to extend the Club experience with a few guidelines to ensure consistency for all. Guests must be accompanied by their hosting member while using the fitness and pool facilities. A completed guest waiver is required prior to use, and applicable guest fees will apply.
We sincerely appreciate your assistance in helping us maintain an environment that is welcoming, safe, and enjoyable for all members and their guests. We look forward to a wonderful summer season ahead and to welcoming you and your families to the Club.

Paul and Elisabeth Jones – Full Equity
The Jones Family were longtime residents of North Ranch and active members of the Club for 18 years and during that time, Mr. Jones was involved in the Club’s leadership. Following the loss of their home in the Woolsey Fire, the family relocated to Utah. As they return to the area and begin the process of purchasing a home in North Ranch, they are excited to reconnect with the community and with many longtime friends at the Club.
Brett Goldberg – Business Full Equity
Brett has been a resident of the Conejo Valley since 1989 and is a financial advisor and portfolio manager, as well as a business owner. Over the years, he has built a diverse professional background, including helping launch the original California Pizza Kitchen, owning and operating a tropical fish store in Thousand Oaks for over a decade, and establishing a successful career in financial services spanning more than 25 years. He leads an active lifestyle and enjoys skiing, fishing, and mountain biking. An avid wine collector, Brett also owns a wine storage business and appreciates a wide range of cuisine. He is looking forward to joining North Ranch to enjoy golf, fitness, and the social aspects of the Club, and to connect with fellow members.
Tae Su Kim and Hyunhui Lee – Business Full Equity
Tae Su and Hyunhui recently relocated to Southern California from South Korea and are excited to become part of North Ranch community. They have three daughters, and enjoy golf, tennis, and spending time together. They look forward to meeting fellow members and being active members of the Club.
John H. Ryan II - Full Equity
John has lived in the Malibu area for the past 16 years and is originally from western New York. He is a pop songwriter and producer with a passion for creating music and collaborating with artists. Outside of music, John enjoys golf, tennis, hiking, and cooking, activities that have always been an important part of his lifestyle. Having grown up in a golf club community in New York, he values the connection and camaraderie that club life provides. He is looking forward to elevating his club experience and is excited to join North Ranch, where many of his close friends are already members, and to become part of the community.
Jarod and Julianne Haness
– Athletic Equity
Jarod and Julianne are high school sweethearts who recently relocated to the Conejo Valley from Santa Clarita. They are raising their three children, River, Dean, and Archer. Jarod is the founder of a digital advertising agency that was acquired by Publicis in 2024, and Julianne is a small business owner who works as a freelance surface pattern designer. As a family, they enjoy spending time together and creating meaningful experiences, whether it’s family movie nights, trips to Disneyland, beach days, or exploring new restaurants. Their children stay active with soccer, baseball, theater, and music. Jarod enjoys golf and learning pickleball, while Julianne enjoys Pilates. They are excited to join North Ranch and the opportunity to build lasting friendships while creating a special place for their family to grow.

As we move further into April, we’re excited to share the continued momentum building across our dining program. Following the successful launch of our new menus at the end of February, the transition has been smooth, and it has been incredibly rewarding to see how positively they’ve been received. Your feedback, enthusiasm, and continued support have meant a great deal to our team.
March brought great, strong energy, helped in no small part by the beautiful weather and the opportunity it offers to fully enjoy all of our dining spaces. From casual meals at the Athletic Center to evenings in the Oak Leaf Lounge, there’s a noticeable vibrancy throughout the Club. Our programming continues to gain traction, and it’s been wonderful to see members engaging with the variety of experiences now available.
A la carte dining, in particular, has shown encouraging momentum. More members are joining us for à la carte dining, and the response to the new menus suggests that the refreshed offerings are resonating; both in terms of variety, and overall experience. It’s exactly what we hoped to achieve: meals that feel approachable, enjoyable, and worth coming back for.
Behind the scenes, we’ve also been focused on strengthening our operations to support this growth. At the Athletic Center, we’ve made several meaningful improvements to the kitchen, and later this month we will be extending the hotline. This will allow us to better handle increased volume while maintaining consistency and quality, especially during our busiest periods and themed dining nights.
As we look ahead, our banquet and catering programs are beginning to ramp up for the season. We’re pleased to have recently welcomed a new member to our culinary team to support these efforts, helping ensure we are well-positioned for a busy and successful year.
Early indicators point toward strong activity beginning in May, and we look forward to it.
In addition, we are exploring small wares in banquet to further enhance the presentation and overall aesthetics of our events. The goal is to bring a more polished and cohesive look to both member events and private catering functions, while continuing to deliver the quality and value you expect.
As always, our focus remains on creating thoughtful, welcoming dining experiences that bring people together. We are grateful to be part of your time at the Club and look forward to everything the season ahead has in store.

April has arrived, bringing longer days, blooming landscapes, and the full beauty of spring to North Ranch Country Club.
March was a wonderful month filled with meaningful and memorable gatherings. We had the pleasure of hosting several corporate events, a heartfelt celebration of life for a beloved member, and a variety of local school celebrations. We were honored to welcome the Academy for Advancement of Children with Autism for their very first school dance, the Oaks Christian School boys’ soccer team for a team dinner, and the St. Jude the Apostle School annual fundraiser. We truly value opportunities like these and love being involved with our local community and the incredible organizations within it.
We were also especially excited to celebrate our very first wedding of the year—there’s nothing quite like the energy that wedding season brings, and it was the perfect way to begin.
As we continue into April, our calendar is quickly filling. If you’re considering hosting an event this summer, we encourage you to reach out sooner rather than later to secure your preferred date. For those looking ahead to spring and summer celebrations, our stunning brick patio offers a beautiful outdoor setting that has been transformed for a wide variety of events. I’ve included a video here to showcase its versatility and would be happy to connect with you to explore all the possibilities.

Pace of Play Update
Now that most of the cart path restrictions have been lifted, our pace of play should return to 4 hours or less for 18 holes or 2 hours or less for 9-holes.
In addition, to the improved course access, we encourage all members to review the recommendations below to help maintain a good and acceptable pace of play. Please take a moment to look these over and consider implementing some of these suggestions the next time you head out for a round.
WAYS TO HELP IMPROVE PACE OF PLAY
Play Ready Golf
• Be prepared to hit when it is safe to do so
• Limit practice swings
• Begin planning your shot while others are playing
Be Ready with Yardage
• Check yardage early and select your club in advance
• Avoid pacing off distances when it is your turn to play
Practice Efficient Cart Management
• Drop off one player with clubs and proceed to the next ball
• Bring multiple clubs when unsure of distance
• Position carts on the exit side of the green
Be Efficient on the Greens
• Read putts while others are putting
• Mark and clean your ball promptly
• Record scores at the next tee
Limit Ball Searches
• Help quickly, but be mindful of time
• Play a provisional ball when there is doubt

Personal Best & Achievements
• After 30 years of competitive and recreational golf, Ali Siam recorded his first hole-in-one on Oaks #8. He striped a 5-iron from the Oak Leaf markers that landed just behind the hole and rolled back into the cup.Then two weeks later he made another ace at Brentwood CC. Holed it from a 140 yards with 15 witnesses watching!
• Brian Crawford aced Valley #3. Hitting a 7-iron into the wind from the Two Tees, his shot finished past the flag before rolling back into the hole. He was joined by his buddy Alex Leigh, who was enjoying his first day as a member at North Ranch.
• Andy Kramer carded an eagle (2) on Valley #5, holing out a 9-iron from 132 yards.
• Eric Hyllengren posted a personal-best round of 79 at Las Posas Country Club, highlighted by two birdies. He followed that up the next week with another career round a 76 on the Valley/Oaks rotation, which included six birdies.
• Rick Heinick carded his first career ace on the 8th hole at Sherwood CC. He hit a 7 iron from 151 yards that landed on the left side of the green and then slowly made its way to the hole and low and behold it fell in the cup!
• Jerry Adams shot 82 from the 4-tees on the Valley/ Oaks rotation, finishing two strokes better than his age. On his way to the impressive round, he birdied #3 and #18.

SATURDAY TEAM PLAY UPDATE
IIn Round 1 of the playoffs, we faced Porter Valley CC, with half the team competing on the road and the other half playing at North Ranch on March 21. The team delivered a strong performance, earning a 33–15 victory.
In the second round, we faced Rio Bravo but were unable to maintain that momentum, falling 47–17.
Congratulations on a great run, and a special thank you to Captain Charley Johnson and Co-Captain Stan Speer for leading the team through a successful season.
WEDNESDAY GENTLEMEN'S SCRAMBLE LEAGUE
The Gentlemen’s Scramble League is Back! Get ready for the return of our much-loved Gentlemen’s Scramble League. There will be 17 Scrambles scheduled from April through August.
How It Works:
• A one-time $50 league entry fee in CASH payable prior to playing in your first scramble. This is required to participate in any or all Scrambles.
• The full amount collected will be set aside and paid out in Pro Shop credit to the top point earners at the end of the season.
• The format remains the same. Teams of 4-6 players, formed by the Golf Shop using the ABCD handicap system.
• Teams will compete for $5 per player, with two-down auto presses.
• Closest to the pin contests will be added on the par3s, with a $5 cash buy-in per player.
Tracking & Playoffs:
• The Golf Shop will track wins and losses, converting results into points.
• Participation points will also be awarded to ensure consistency is rewarded.
• As the season progresses, we’ll introduce playoff events, similar to the FedEx Cup format, with extra points on the line.
• After the final playoff round, the top individual point earners will receive payouts from the $50 buy-in pool.
Schedule:
All Scrambles will be played on Wednesdays at 5:00 PM on the Lakes Course.

Eligibility:
• Open to all male golf equity members.
• Dependents, adult children, and guests are NOT eligible to participate.
Sign-Up Instructions:
• If you plan to participate in any Scramble, email bagstorage@northranchcc.org by noon on the day of play to confirm your spot.
• Bring cash! We recommend having $100 in $5 bills for easy betting.
SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS
What a beautiful weekend with fantastic weather and great playing. Congratulations to Morgan McCoy on capturing his first Overall Gross Senior Club Championship with an impressive 143 (73-70).
Congratulations to Peter Dobias on capturing the Overall Net Senior Club Championship. Peter shot a two day total of 141 (-1) to beat the competition by one shot.

Dear North Ranch Members,
With the return of golf carts to the fairways, we’ve reached a highlight of the season. However, to keep our turf healthy, we need to address a growing concern: the proper execution of the 90-degree policy on all three nines.
Lately, we’ve noticed most carts are driving the length of the fairways. While it might seem like a shortcut, this is the quickest way to degrade our playing surfaces. In this traffic report image of #7 Oaks, the orange lines show just how few are following the Club 90- degree policy.
Protecting Our Fairways: The Why Behind the 90-Degree Rule
THE SCIENCE OF THE SOIL
Our beautiful course sits on heavy clay-based soil. Unlike sandy soils that drain and breathe easily, our clay is highly susceptible to compaction. When carts travel long distances over the grass, the weight squeezes the air out of the soil, making it hard for roots to grow and water to penetrate. This leads to thin or dead turf and "hard-pan" lies that no one wants to play from.
HOW TO EXECUTE THE 90-DEGREE RULE:
1. Stay on the cart path until you are even with your ball.
2. Turn at a right angle and drive directly across to your ball.
3. After your shot, drive directly back to the path.
In this image, the black line shows the increased and unnecessary traffic when driving the length of the fairway. While the red line shows proper 90-degree driving to the two stop points and far less traffic footprint. Please note… holes 1-2-3 on Oaks has a modified cart policy due to the impossibility of using 90-degree there.
By limiting the time your tires spend on the grass, we collectively minimize the "footprint" on our fairways. Following this policy isn't just a rule—it’s an investment in the long-term health and beauty of North Ranch.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON 9 HOLE GOLF MARCH 25TH
This is a fun and casual way to get out with other NRWGA golfers for a easy round of golf. We had a great time with some good golf, lots of laughs and some small bites and drinks after play. TEE OFF WITH A TEAM TUESDAY MARCH 10TH
March Tee off with a Team Tuesday was a really exciting day filled with some fun competition, birthday celebrations and delicious cake! The Chicks with Sticks buried the other competition winning the stableford format by a landslide! Congratulations Ladies! The most Individual Points was earned by Julie Prince of Chicks with Sticks with 41 points! Wow, nice job Julie. Next months competition will be April 14. NORTH RANCH WOMEN’S TEAM PLAY
With four matches down, it looks like the team is off to a great start. They beat both Spanish Hills and La Canada at home, gross and net! Then beat La Canada away gross and tied them net. At Spanish Hills, the ladies won gross and net away! The last two matches of the regular season are against Wood Ranch, away April 7 and at home April 9. Good luck in your final two matches ladies.

March was one of the most active and enjoyable months we’ve had on the courts. From tennis to pickleball, there has been a constant buzz of activity throughout the Club. The beautiful stretch of weather gave us a taste of summer, creating the perfect conditions for play and bringing great energy to every session, match, and event. It’s been fantastic to see so many members out enjoying the game, competing, and making the most of everything our racquet programs have to offer.
MEN’S AND WOMEN’S DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
We hosted our annual Men’s and Women’s Doubles Championships, and it was a tremendous success, with the event completely sold out. A full field of 35 competitors took to the courts, creating a fantastic atmosphere filled with energy, competitive spirit, and great tennis throughout the day. It was wonderful to see so many members involved and competing at a high level, making it one of the highlights of the month. We would like to congratulate all our champions on their outstanding performances. A big thank you to all our members who participated and helped make the event such a fun and memorable experience!

March was an incredibly active month for pickleball at the Club. We were excited to bring in JOOLA, one of the most popular brands in the game, now available in the shop for our members. We also introduced, for the first time at NRCC, a pickleball ball machine—giving players a great opportunity to practice drills, improve consistency, and get extra reps on their own schedule. The courts have been full of energy, with plenty of match play, and our pickleball interClub league has added a fun, competitive element, bringing our community together and showcasing great play throughout the month. Lastly, we had a fun and competitive men’s and women’s doubles tournament, and we’d like to congratulate our winners for their excellent play.

This was one of the most exciting months for our Junior Program in recent years. We officially launched the North Ranch Junior Team Tennis team, giving our players the opportunity to represent our Club in matches against several clubs and tennis academies across Ventura and Los Angeles County. We are incredibly excited to begin this new chapter, providing our juniors with a fun and competitive team environment, and we look forward to following their journey through the end of May.
To top it off, our juniors competed in a VCJTA Tournament in Port Hueneme a weekend ago and delivered outstanding results. We would like to congratulate Jane Ellis and Julia Clark for finishing 1st and 2nd in the Girls 10 & Under division, Kellan Snowden for capturing 1st place in the Boys 10 & Under division, and Reed Christie for earning 2nd place in the Boys 14 & Under division. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they represented North Ranch both on and off the court.

April Racquets Highlights
Looking ahead to April, be sure to sign up for our Racquets Bonanza on Saturday, April 11th! This exciting event will feature a fun mix of live ball and match play for both tennis and pickleball, giving everyone a chance to get on court and enjoy some great competition. Sponsored by Wilson, members will also have the opportunity to demo racquets and learn more about the latest Wilson gear. The day will be capped off with lunch and a mental skills seminar, making it a well-rounded and engaging experience both on and off the court. Click here to register.
