Manager’s Message
We are pleased to announce that construction of our new Athletic Center will begin this upcoming Friday, July 2nd! As we transition into this construction phase, we will be implementing new procedures for member parking and traffic flow, cart traffic to the Lakes course, and a new tennis check - in area on Thursday, July 1st. Please take note of the information below, and refer to our Athletic Center Construction Member Traffic Flow map. PARKING LOT TRAFFIC FLOW: • All members and guests will drive past security and enter/exit the parking lot at the FIRST turn. • There will be no member or guest parking permitted in the tennis lot or along the curb in front of the main clubhouse building during construction. CART TRAFFIC TO LAKES COURSE: • Cart traffic to/from Lakes will need to drive by Valley #1 up toward the parking lot, across the front of the Clubhouse, and through the designated area in the tennis parking lot to get to the Lakes course. Please watch for construction traffic in the tennis lot! TENNIS CHECK IN AND COURT ACCESS: • Tennis check in will now be inside of the main Clubhouse, downstairs in front of the Golf Shop entrance, beginning Thursday, July 1st. • Access to the tennis courts will be behind the Oaks #1 tee box and around the back of Court 2. Courts 1 and 2 will not be accessible during construction. • When leaving the tennis courts, please be aware of golfers teeing off on Oaks #1, and members utilizing the practice areas. Dear Members, Happy 4th of July! As the weather gets warmer, we are looking forward to some fantastic events at the Club and hope you can come and enjoy them! Also, I am excited to see the fencing around the Tennis building in anticipation of our new Athletic Center. I hope you will all join me in letting the community know that this project is getting underway! I anticipate welcoming new families from our community as we get further and further into the construction. The Athletic Center will bring a new vibrance to the Club, and we all look forward to seeing the construction begin. Mark Swartz – Business Transfer Please welcome Mark to North Ranch. Mark is the Manager of O’Gara Coach in Westlake Village. He recently moved from Placerville to Westlake for work. He is looking forward to getting to know our members and playing more golf. Jaron and Casey Stern – Full Equity We are excited to welcome the Stern’s. Jaron is a Leveraged Finance/Managing Director at Ally Financial. Jaron graduated from Vanderbilt University (BA), University of Miami (grad school). Jaron and Casey have lived in the area for 10 years and have 3 children: Jaxon (8), Jagger (5), Makayla (3). Their interests include sports, coaching youth sports, running, fitness and love Italian food. Jaron and Casey joined NRCC for golf, tennis, social, parties, food, swim, the upcoming fitness center and are looking forward to bringing their family to the Club! Dave and Esther Kent – Full Equity Please welcome the Kent family. Dave is an electrical contractor. They reside in Westlake Village and are outgoing, sociable and easy-going. Dave and Esther enjoy golf, boating and motorcycles. Favorite food and drinks are good fish, 4 North Ranch Country Club | March 2021
good pinot noir/cab and of course, Tequila! They have 9 kids and 10 grandkids. Jeff and Holly Lambert – Full Equity Let’s all welcome the Lambert’s to NR. Holly is President of Arizona Aero Fasteners, and Jeff is Vice President of Arizona Aero Fasteners in Moorpark. They have lived in the area for 22 years and have two children - Garrett (23) and Carson (21). Jeff and Holly joined NR to spend more time around golf, to be with good friends and they look forward to making new friends. Their interests are baseball, poker and golf; favorite food is Italian or Mexican, beer, red wine and old fashioneds. Tyler and Gwen Gold – Business Full Equity NR extends their warmest welcome to the Gold family. Tyler attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is a Landscape Architect. Tyler and Gwen have four children, Kendall Gold (19), Joshua Harrison (19), Taylor Harrison (17) and Owen Gold (16). The Gold’s have friends that are members and have heard many great things about NR. Their interests/ hobbies include golf, biking, swimming and hiking. They love steak or fish and their favorite wine is cabernet. They also enjoy cold beer and scotch. Aaron and Erin Bruno – Full Equity Please welcome Aaron and Erin Bruno! Aaron is a musical recording artist and songwriter and Erin is a self-employed artist. Their interests/hobbies include music, surfing and golf. Aaron joined NRCC to enjoy the beautiful golf course and has lived in the area 42 years. He is excited to play golf and improve his game with his father, Jim Bruno, who is a current member of the Club. Joseph and Nikola Caravana – Full Equity Joe is in the cloud technology industry and Nikola is a teacher and a handmade pasta chef. The Caravana’s live in Thousand Oaks and have 3 children: Luca (14), Tore (11), Leo (5). Joe graduated from Arizona State University and Nikola graduated from Brock University in Canada. They joined NR to play golf and tennis as a family and to meet new families in our community. Their interests and hobbies include great food, music, movies, hiking and traveling to
new places as a family. Nikola is a handmade pasta chef so their favorite meal is one of her amazing pasta paired with Italian red wine. Francisco and Adriana Larin – Full Equity Francisco is an Electrical Contractor, President at LAC Electric in Van Nuys; Adriana is the Office Manager/ Secretary at LAC Electric. The Larin’s live in Northridge and have 3 children: Carlos (29), Juan Pablo (23), Diana (21). Francisco attended Conalep Zapopan (CEMIC). They joined NR to enjoy the activities of the Club and to be part of its friendly members. Their interests/hobbies are mainly golf and tennis and they love Italian food, Moscattos, Arnold Palmers and pina coladas. Chad and Jessica Boyd – Full Equity Please welcome the Boyd’s to NR! Chad is a Partner/Principal at Deloitte. He attended Univ of San Diego (undergrad), San Diego State (Masters) and Wharton/Univ of Pennsylvania (MBA). They joined NR for golf and family activities. Most of his current hobbies are kid-related, golf, running and tinkering with electronics. They spend a lot of time in their kitchen cooking and trying new dishes/types of food. They love to BBQ and typically use their smoker for an all-day cooking session a few weekends a month. Mixed drinks are their go-to, but IPA’s are his guilty pleasure. The Boyd’s live in Thousand Oaks and have 4 children: Olivia (21), Owen (19), Corbin (9), Cali (6). Marc and Andrea Shapiro – Full Equity We are delighted to have the Shapiro’s at NRCC! Both Marc and Andrea are attorneys with Hanger, Steinberg, Shapiro & Ash in Woodland Hills. They reside in Oak Park and have 3 children: Josh (24), Brooke (22), Dylan (18). The Shapiro’s are a kind and supportive family who give back to their community in service and in friendship. Jeff and Frankie Palmer – Full Equity Please welcome the Palmer’s to NR! Jeff graduated from USC and is a CPA/Business Manager at Garland Palmer Business Management in Los Angeles. Jeff and Frankie have 1 daughter, Samantha and she is 17 years old. Their favorite food is Italian and they love red wine. They are joining NRCC because it is a great Club and are looking forward to creating lifelong memories for their family! Mark and Wendy Englander – Full Equity Please give the Englander’s a warm welcome! Mark is a CPA/ President at Englander & Associates. Mark and Wendy have lived in the area for over 30 years and they have 2 grown children, Adam and Hannah. They are looking forward to
meeting more members at the Club! Joel and Krista Kelly – Full Equity Joel is VP, Sales (Media/Advertising) at iHeartMedia and Krista is Human Capital Manager at PWC. The Kelly’s live in Westlake Village and have 2 children - Kiera (20), Greyson (17). Joel and Krista’s positive and upbeat attitudes make them both the type of people everyone wants to be around. They look forward to making new friends and creating new memories here at NRCC! Shaun and Courtni Neff - Full Equity Please give a warm welcome to the Neff ’s. They live in Agoura Hills and have 3 children; Jett (13), Lyon (11), Neon (1). Shaun is CEO of SMN, Inc. and Courtni is a homemaker. They are looking forward to becoming a part of the NRCC family! Robert and Emi Moreno – Full Equity Rob and Emi both attended Arizona State University (Rob grew up in Connecticut and Emi grew up in Illinois), met in their freshman English literature class and began dating roughly one year later. Rob obtained his undergraduate degree in Construction Management and Emi earned degrees in both Marketing and Broadcast Journalism while at ASU. Following college, they moved to Connecticut, where Rob began his career in electrical contracting and Emi began her career in marketing with Procter & Gamble. They were married in Connecticut in 2003 and moved to California in 2007, where Emi continued her career with Procter & Gamble (later divested as Wella) and Rob began his career with Bergelectric, where they have both been since. Emi is now a Sr. Marketing Director overseeing the OPI Nail Polish brand for North America, and Rob is a Sr. Vice President at Bergelectric overseeing their Southern California business unit. They initially landed in the Brentwood area of West LA and in 2013, when their son Miles (now 8) was born, moved to Agoura Hills for a more suburban and close-knit community lifestyle. Their decision to join North Ranch CC stems from a desire to continue to build a strong community network in the area and build life-long relationships through the various activities the Club has to offer. Rob is an avid golfer and lover of jazz music (listening and playing trombone) and Emi is a lover of classic literature, fine wine and global travel. Their son, Miles, plays golf, practices karate, loves swimming and traveling the world with his mom and dad. Welcome to the North Ranch family! Trevor and BreAnne Kavanagh – Associate We are happy to welcome the Kavanagh’s to the Club. Trevor is Director Global Sales at GPS Capital Markets. The 5
Kavanagh’s have 4 children – Nathan (11), Paige (10), Will (7) and Luke (4). Trevor loves golf and they are looking forward to utilizing all that NRCC has to offer for years to come. Jeffrey and Sara Sarti – Athletic Equity We are excited to welcome the Sarti’s. Jeff is CEO of Morton Capital Management in Calabasas and Sara is a homemaker and is a very active volunteer in the schools. The Sarti’s have 3 children – Charlie (12), Emily (10), Noelle (7) and they live in Oak Park. The Sarti family is well-connected with other existing members. They are affiliated with the Boys & Girls Club of Conejo Valley and Stray Cat Alliance. Caroline Yablans – Athletic Equity Welcome, Caroline! She lives in Westlake Village and is a LAUSD middle school teacher and librarian. She recently moved to Westlake and is very familiar with the Club through her parents’ membership. Caroline is looking forward to using the Club and making even more friends. Michael and Zelene Fowler – Athletic Equity Please welcome the Fowler’s. Michael is President, Affordable Housing Partners, Inc. and Zelene is President, Mizel Wines. The Fowler’s have 2 children – Izabella (16) and Henry (14) and live in Westlake Village. They love tennis and are looking forward to making new friends at NRCC! Steven and Wendy Rhoads Schneider - Athletic Equity Steven is a film producer and Wendy just bought her first rental property here in Westlake. Steve and Wendy moved to Westlake Village in late 2016 and just moved to North Ranch at the beginning of 2020. They love this neighborhood and are excited to be a part of the community because they want their 2 daughters (Ava 7 and Charlie (Charlotte) 5) to feel a sense of belonging to their hometown. Tennis, pilates, yoga, real estate, films, books, travel are some of their hobbies They love their coffee, Chardonnay, sushi and a great Filet Mignon. They look forward to meeting all of you! The Wissig’s have lived in the area for 16 years and have 3 children - Jacqueline (16), Lyla (14), Reid (6). They are joining NRCC because they have some wonderful friends who they love to be with socially. They also enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and proximity to their home. The Wissigs love surfing, the beach and love playing tennis as a family. Erik loves craft beer and they all enjoy a yummy meal! Stephanie and Amir Noori – Athletic Equity We are happy to welcome the Noori’s to the Club. Amir is a Manager at SoCal Edison and Stephanie is an Event Producer at West Coast Dance, Inc. They live in Thousand Oaks and have 2 children - Avery (8), Gavin (6). He and his family are super excited about becoming part of the North Ranch family and meeting other members. Dear Members, It was another great month of tennis at North Ranch. Our first tennis event in a long time, Demolition Doubles Night, went amazingly well! I appreciate everyone who attended and made it such a special event. We hope to have more events in the future once we get through the demolition phase of the Athletic Center project. While we move into the demolition phase of the project, please note that our new tennis check-in desk will be located downstairs in the main North Ranch Clubhouse, indoors just next to the Golf Pro Shop entrance. Also, please be sure to cancel any courts in advance if you will not be using them, as well as only using the court number that you have booked. We will be down to 10 courts for a while, so managing court occupancy will be much appreciated. Good luck to all of our USTA Leagues going on! Let’s help create some energy and support around North Ranch for these teams as they compete hard each week. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the courts, and as always... Go Ranchers! I cannot believe we are halfway through the year already! We are planning many outside events to enjoy our beautiful So California weather. We start the month off with a special Wine Dinner hosted by the Proprietors of Relic, followed by a Family favorite event outing, then our Summer Series Music in the Park and we will end the month with our popular Wine & Nine Couples Golf Tournament!
Upcoming July Events Relic Wine Dinner Wednesday, July 7 at 5:30 PM Join us for a special evening hosted by Michael Hirby and Schatzi Throckmorton, Relic’s Proprietors for a four-course dinner beautifully paired by Chef Karl’s cuisine. Relic was founded in Napa Valley in 2001 by husband and wife team Michael Hirby and Schatzi Throckmorton. Inspired by a love of Burgundy, they began with the production of a minuscule amount of Pinot Noir and have since continued to mine history for the old secrets in the making of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast as well as Rhone and Bordeaux varietals from the Napa Valley, where the winery is located. The diverse vineyard sources are organically-farmed. Michael is currently the consulting winemaker for D.R. Stephens Estate, Husic Family Vineyards, Sarocka Estate and MAZE and was the winemaker at Realm Cellars for 8 years. Triute to Fleetwood Mac - Summer Live Music Series Saturday, July 24 at 6:00 PM Join us for our second of our three-part Casual Summer Concert Series on the Range! Bring your blankets and chairs and join us for a fun informal concert on the lower range. A Picnic Basket will be available for purchase. The Men’s Lounge bar will be open for beverages and a Wine bar will be set up on the range. Don’t miss this fun event! Our tribute band, "Mirage,” named after the bands’ third bestselling album, features Michelle Tyler as Stevie Nicks, Bob Weitz as John McVie, Annie Boxell as Christine McVie, Gary Hagen as Lindsey Buckingham and Richard Graham as Mick Fleetwood. Based in Los Angeles, “Mirage” has earned the top honors among tribute artists – endorsed by AXSTV as one of “The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands” and heartily praised by the ‘real’ Stevie Nicks after she heard a performance. Mirage will take you on a journey celebrating the hits of Fleetwood Mac in its prime. Couples Wine & Nine Golf Tournament Sunday, July 25 at 3:00 PM This casual, fun and easy golf format should appeal to all. (All player levels encouraged!) Golf will begin at 3p.m. with a progressive wine tasting and Chef Karl’s paired hors d’oeuvres on every other hole as you play on the course. Dinner and prizes will follow upstairs. Dear Membership, We are currently in the process of switching to a new tournament software. Recently, Golf Genius purchased our current tournament software, Event Man. Moving forward tournament registrations will be processed through Golf Genius, which syncs directly with Club Essentials, our Club website. This will streamline all registrations, as there will no longer be a secondary username and password needed. All tournament registrations will be located on the Club website under the Golf Section or on the front page of the NRCC app. Please be patient with us as we set up the rest of 2021 events, as well as fix any bugs that might arise. We are confident that this new way to register for events will be much more user friendly.

PERSONAL & BEST ACHIEVEMENTS • Brian Malchow carded his first career ace on the 5th hole at Sheep Ranch in Bandon Dunes. It turned out to be a lucrative one as well, since the fifteen guys on the trip had to pay him $170 per man, for the ace! • Randy O’Connor carded his first career ace on Oaks #8! He hit a perfect 9 iron with a little draw towards the hole, although he couldn’t see it go in, when he walked up by the green looking for the ball, he then realized it was in the hole! • Pat Beard aced Valley #3. He hit a 5 iron that looked good all the way. It took two hops in front of a red pin and then jumped in! • Nicole Haines who has only been playing golf for less than 6 months carded a hole-in-one on Lakes #8! She hit a 5 rescue from the Yellow tees. TOURNAMENT RESULTS 2021 Men's Club Championship Results Congratulations to Craig Steinberg on defending his title and capturing his 6th overall championship! Women’s Golf JUNE 17 HEALTHCARE FOR HOMELESS ANIMALS SCRAMBLE Despite the unusual hot weather, many ladies turned out for a good cause, a fun time and a tasty lunch and dessert. Thanks to the generosity of the members, $2,478 was raised and donated for the health care of homeless animals. Michelle Costanzo, who volunteers at the Agoura Animal Shelter, is a passionate supporter and it was at her suggestion that the NRCC ladies group sponsor this charity. LADIES TEAM PLAY RESULTS Congratulations to the NRWGA golf team for advancing to the Gold Coast playoffs for the GROSS flight. On June 3rd, six NRCC team members played at home and six played at Alisal Ranch. North Ranch won all sides at home and Alisal won all sides at their course for a tie. According to playoff rules, ties go back to the winner of Side !, and unfortunately, Alisal walked away with the win. We were so close with most matches decided on the 18th hole.
