Membership For All We believe everyone deserves a Y, so the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth offers financial assistance to individuals and families who might otherwise not be able to afford membership or program fees. YOUTH PROGRAMS

Nurturing the Potential of Every Child and Teen

Our youth and teen programs provide a safe and fun place to learn and grow through a variety of activities such as arts, dance, indoor and outdoor activities, team building and self-esteem activities, and more. Our activities focus on developing a youth’s self worth while giving them the opportunity to explore different hobbies and activities. Youth will also build leadership skills and character development.

Outdoor Summer Day Camp

(for children ages 5-12 years old) June 4-August 10

Our Outdoor Day Camp is a fun place to enjoy summer where campers can play games, create arts and crafts, explore science and technology, swim, participate in weekly field trips, and appreciate nature! It also provides youth with supervised activities that teach core values, conflict resolution and leadership skills.

Northpark’s Camp Destiny includes:  Morning and afternoon snack provided daily  Free Swimming each day!  Great field trips to exciting locations around the Fort Worth area!

This is an enriching parent child program designed to help foster a lifetime of understanding, relationship strengthening and compassion between parent and child.

Every month, each parent-child pair will have the opportunity to take part in an event hosted by the Y. YMCA Member Fee: $60 each per child and adult Non YMCA Member Fee: $60 each per child and adult

Reach & Rise® 1:1 Mentoring Program (for children and teens ages 6-17 years old)

Reach & Rise® is a national YMCA program designed to build a better future for youth by helping them reach their full potential through the support of caring adults.

Reach & Rise® is a free, one-to-one youth mentoring program that was established to provide young people in our community with positive adult relationships. Each adult is matched with a young person who they meet with once a week.

Each match lasts a minimum of one year. Mentors serve as role models, friends, and confidants. They’re a source of support for at risk children. Mentors are not meant to take the role of a parent, babysitter, or financer. Mentors try to introduce their mentees to new activities to help them grow and learn about themselves and their community.

Teen Boot Camp

(for teens ages 12-17 years old) June 4-August 8 (10 week session)

Learn what a positive impact endurance and weight training can have on your teen’s self image. Teen Boot Camp is a perfect introduction to learning about their body and how powerful and strong they can be. Teens will learn team building skills and the importance of working with others to achieve a shared goal. Boot Camp meets four days a week.

Strong Swimmers, Confident Kids

For nearly 100 years, the YMCA has been dedicated to water safety in the greater Fort Worth area by providing guarded pool access and teaching people to swim. The YMCA Swim Lesson Curriculum is a core group of aquatic skills every person needs to be safe around water. As the foundation of our program, these skills allow students to learn correct swim stroke techniques. Students begin with and build upon skills they are ready to learn, helping them to celebrate their successes, build self-confidence, and enjoy learning to swim and water safety.

SWIM BASICS: Stages 1-3

Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills:  Swim, float, swim—sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit  Jump, push, turn, grab  Stages 1-4 are offered for both preschool and school age. Please pick the stage that best fits your child's age and ability.

Will the student go underwater voluntarily?

1 / Water Acclimation In this beginning class, children develop comfort with being underwater and learn how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Qualifications: None Can the student do a front and back float on his or her own?

2 / Water Movement In this class, children are taught skills that focus on buoyancy and movement in the water while also learning how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Qualifications: (1) able to go under water & comfortably open eyes without goggles, (2) able to float on front & back with minimal assistance, (3) able to jump in the pool, submerge & return to the wall with assistance.

Can the student swim 10–15 yards on his or her front and back?

3 / Water Stamina In this class, children focus on swimming longer distances. In the event of falling into a body of water, children learn how to swim to safety.

Qualifications: (1) able to float on front & back unassisted, (2) able to push off the wall on stomach with face submerged for 10 feet unassisted, (3) able to Swim-Float-Swim 15 feet unassisted, (4) able to jump into deep water and return to the wall unassisted.

SWIM LESSONS

SWIM STROKES: Stages 4-6 Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills:  Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity  Stages 4-6 are offered for both preschool and school age. Please pick the stage that best fits your child's age and ability.

Can the student swim 15 yards of front and back crawl?

4 / Stroke Introduction Students in this class will develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Qualifications: (1) able to submerge & retrieve an object in chest deep water, (2) able to swim front crawl 15 yards while taking a breath, (3) able to Swim-Float-Swim 15 yards, (4) able to jump in & tread water for 30 seconds (5) able to swim to wall & exit.

Ages: 3-12 Can the student swim front crawl, back crawl, & breaststroke across the pool?

5 / Stroke Development Students will work on stroke technique and learn all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke Qualifications: (1) able to front crawl & back crawl 25 yards, (2) able to swim breaststroke kick and dolphin kick 15 yards (3) able to tread water using multiple kicks for 1 minute.

Ages: 5-12 Can the student swim front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke across the pool and back?

6 / Stroke Mechanics In stage 6, students refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

Qualifications: (1) able to swim front crawl with bent arm recovery & rotary breathing for 25 yards, (2) able to swim back crawl with stroke rotation for 25 yards, (3) able to swim butterfly with over arm recovery, (4) able to swim breaststroke for 25 yards achieving stroke rhythm, (5) able to dive from kneeling position.

Ages: 5-12yrs

Y Youth Sports allows young people to develop skills and build healthy lifestyles through teamwork, fun and fair play. Our coaches help guide our children through learning the essentials of physical fitness, healthy development, and participation. There are no try-outs in our non-competitive sports program, ensuring that “Everyone Plays, Everyone Wins�. Y Youth Sports are coached by dedicated volunteers and we encourage you to volunteer with your child today!

Cool off over the summer and celebrate your special event with a fun pool party. We offer use of our Multi Purpose Room, tables and chairs and a YMCA party host to help coordinate your chosen activities.
