TRAIL PARTNERS The development of the Langlade County OHMV Trails on the terminal moraine east of Antigo is the result of a strong partnership between the Langlade County Forestry Department and the 4Lakes 4Wheelers Club. For years, there was no designated legal space in Wisconsin for full-size off-road vehicles, and both groups recognized the growing demand for managed opportunities. By combining the county’s authority in land stewardship with the club’s knowledge of the area, they were able to create a model trail system that balances access and sustainability. 4Lakes 4Wheelers contributed countless volunteer hours in planning, mapping, and physically working on the ground to help prepare the trails. Their experience with the unique needs of full-size vehicles helped shape the design standards, ensuring the routes are both challenging and safe.

“COMBINING THE COUNTY’S AUTHORITY IN LAND STEWARDSHIP WITH THE CLUB’S KNOWLEDGE OF THE AREA, THEY WERE ABLE TO CREATE A MODEL TRAIL SYSTEM THAT BALANCES ACCESS AND SUSTAINABILITY.” Meanwhile, the Forestry Department guided the process through the necessary permitting, oversight, and environmental safeguards, making sure the project aligns with county ordinances and long-term forest management goals. Together, these partners have delivered more than just trails—they have provided a new recreational resource for the region. The Langlade County OHMV trail system is expected to draw enthusiasts from across the Midwest, bringing economic benefits to Langlade County while setting an example for other Wisconsin counties to follow. The partnership between the club and the county demonstrates what can be accomplished when local government and grassroots clubs work hand-in-hand to build something that serves both the land, the user groups and the community.

WHY WE DO THIS CREATING COMMUNITYTRAILBUILT LEADS THE WAY TrailBuilt Off-Road is once again proud to serve as title sponsor of the Wisconsin Fall 4x4 Fest, supporting the off-road community and the growth of responsible recreation in Wisconsin. Their involvement helps us celebrate the West Evergreen OHMV Trails while bringing enthusiasts together for a weekend centered around adventure, stewardship and community. Throughout the weekend, raffles featuring prizes donated by our industry partners will benefit the Wolf River Volunteer Fire Department. It’s a chance to win some great gear while giving back to the local first responders who serve the community and the areas we come here to enjoy.

Northology Adventures is hosting the Fall 4x4 Fest to celebrate the opening of the Langlade County OHMV trail system, Wisconsin’s first legal off-road network for full-size vehicles. For years, Jeep, truck, and overland enthusiasts have been traveling out of state for opportunities that didn’t exist here at home. With Langlade County and the 4Lakes 4Wheelers creating this groundbreaking system, Northology wanted to provide a way for the community to gather, use the trails, and recognize this milestone moment.

BEYOND THE TRAILS Beyond the trails, Fall 4x4 Fest is about community, stewardship and giving back. Northology brings people together to camp, wheel and connect while recognizing the volunteers and organizations—especially the dedicated members of 4Lakes 4Wheelers— whose hard work helped make the West Evergreen OHMV Trails a reality. Through responsible recreation, support for the trail permit program and raffles benefiting the Wolf River Fire Department, the weekend celebrates what can happen when the offroad and local communities work together.

TRAIL SUPPORTERS We are thrilled to have TrailBuilt Off Road’s support for another awesome Fall 4x4 Fest. We asked marketing lead, Samantha Pelowski, a few questions ahead of this year’s event. What made TrailBuilt want to step up as title sponsor? As a former sponsor of Wisconsin Fall 4x4, we like supporting Northology Adventures. We believe in the work they are doing, the events they host, and their amazing staff. Not to mention, they are local to us. Why is supporting new legal full-size opportunities like West Evergreen important? Usually you've got two options: burn a tank of fuel driving out of state or push your luck somewhere you probably shouldn't be. West Evergreen is a third option, one with miles of purpose-built trails and seven challenge routes, all legal and all safe for the off-road community, and something we can all enjoy.

As a Wisconsin-based company, what does supporting the community here at home mean? Our customers are the people out in a cold garage in February getting a rig ready for summer. When the trail network here grows, they get more places to actually use what they built. Wheeling close to home without burning two extra days just on travel, and being able to support your neighbor is what it is all about.

“BRANDS CARRY MORE OF THAT WEIGHT THAN ANYBODY. IF YOU'RE GOING TO FILM ON THE TRAIL, PUT SOMETHING BACK INTO THE TRAIL”

What upgrades do you recommend for a Wisconsin/Midwest build?

What responsibility do brands and enthusiasts have in protecting access?

Protection and recovery first. Sliders, skids, a rated recovery point front and rear, and a decent strap. You're going to get stuck; that part isn't optional. Tearing up your rig while it happens, is.

Brands carry more of that weight than anybody. If you're going to film on the trail, put something back into the trail. Sponsorships, work days, and what you show on camera counts toward support and appreciation of the trails.

Tires next. Best money you'll spend, every time. Around here it's mud, roots, and clay more than rock, so pick a tread that cleans itself out. Suspension after that. A 2-3 inch lift with good shocks beats a tall lift with cheap ones every time. Plus you’ll probably be able to fit the bigger tires you want then.

What are you most excited about for the future of full-size off-road in Wisconsin? The momentum. Give it five years, and the Midwest could be somewhere people drive to instead of somewhere they leave to go wheeling. We'd like to help get there.

THE TRAILBLAZERS

TEAMWORK MADE THIS PROJECT A REALITY.

The Langlade County OHMV Trails are the result of years of persistence and collaboration between Langlade County and the off-road community. At the heart of that effort are Al Murray, administrator of the Langlade County Forestry, Recreation and Parks Department, and Jim Baker, former president of the 4Lakes 4Wheelers.

Al brought the land-management expertise, county oversight and commitment to longterm forest stewardship needed to move the project forward, while Jim and the 4Lakes 4Wheelers contributed their knowledge, passion and countless volunteer hours designing, clearing, marking and caring for the trails. Together, their work demonstrates what can happen when land managers and recreationists share a vision. The result is more than a place to wheel—it’s a model for responsible recreation, stewardship and future off-road opportunities in Langlade County. There is hope that this trail system will keep expanding and inspire surrounding counties.

THE EARLY ADOPTERS Northology Adventures has had the unique opportunity to experience the Langlade County OHMV Trails before they officially opened. Through special use permits issued by the Langlade County Forestry, Recreation and Parks Department, we’ve been able to host events on the trail system. For the past several years, we’ve hosted our Midwest Women’s Off-road Weekend. In late spring, women gather to learn from other women who bring professional training, experience and knowledge to the trail. In a supportive, no-pressure environment, participants build skills and confidence while learning every thing from vehicle basics and trail driving to spotting, recovery and responsible recreation.

THE CARE TAKERS

This summer’s Trail Revival Project was an act of service to the trails we love. Northology Adventures joined 4Lakes 4Wheelers, onX Offroad, Toyota, Langlade County Forestry and an incredible crew of volunteers to clear brush and downed trees, improve drainage, move rock, install signage and clean up the West Evergreen OHMV Trail System. Subscribe to the free Northology Adventures digital magazine to hear about future trail work days, cleanups and other opportunities to get involved and give back.

Having access to the developing OHMV trails has provided an incredible outdoor classroom while giving Northology a front-row seat to the work happening behind the scenes. We are incredibly grateful to the 4Lakes 4Wheelers and Langlade County Forestry, Recreation and Parks Department for trusting us with these opportunities and for their continued work to create responsible access for Wisconsin’s full-size off-road community. We’re proud to have been a small part of the story—and even more excited to see where these trails go from here. Learn more by joining our Midwest Women’s Offroad Network group on facebook.

OHMV TRAILS langlade county, wi

The new OHMV Trails in Langlade County represent Wisconsin’s first designated trail system for full-size off-road vehicles. Developed through collaboration between the Langlade County Forestry Department and the 4Lakes 4Wheelers club, the trails were designed to balance recreational access with forest stewardship. With signed routes, managed surfaces, and controlled use, the system creates a legal space for Jeep and truck owners to enjoy the backcountry without damaging sensitive areas or conflicting with other forms of recreation. To use the trails, every vehicle must display a valid Langlade County OHMV Trail Permit, placed just in front of the driver’s door. Vehicles are required to meet specific safety standards, including working brakes, front and rear tow points, a roll bar or hard top, seat belts for all occupants, and a mounted fire extinguisher. Drivers must also carry a first aid kit and a spill kit in case of fluid leaks. Recommended equipment, such as radios, tow straps, winches with tree

radios, tow straps, winches with tree savers, and spare tires, helps ensure that trail users are prepared for recovery and emergencies. Operation on these trails comes with clear conduct expectations. Crosscountry travel is prohibited. Operators must remain on designated routes, avoid intentional soil disturbance, and keep clear of wetlands and lowlands unless marked as challenge areas. Alcohol or drug impairment is not tolerated, and children or pets must be supervised at all times. These rules are in place not only to protect the health of the forest but also to safeguard the long-term future of off-road opportunities in Langlade County. This OHMV system is just the beginning. Langlade County is looking at possibilities for future trail expansion, which could open even more miles of forest roads and challenge areas to responsible fourwheel use. This means more variety and opportunities close to home, and for the local community, it means growth in tourism and continued investment in the outdoor economy.

RIVER FOREST CAMPGROUND

our story “Under the Full Moon, by the River: We, Rafael and Amy, are not just business partners, we're kindred spirits brought together by laughter, campfires, and a shared love for water. Both born under full moon, guided by the stars, and becoming aware, we found solace in the Northwoods after navigating the darkest nights. We believe in the power of community, the healing touch of nature, and the joy of a good belly laugh (often fueled by inside jokes like "and that, and stuff"). From Kayaking to Campground Keepers: Our love affair with this land began with a whitewater kayak, purchased with a COVID stimulus check and a dream of exploring the hidden gems of the Northwoods. Soon, kayaking rapids became our escape, a way to wash away the anxieties of the world. Amy, a dedicated RN specializing in Functional Medicine, found solace in nature after tending to COVID patients. And Rafael, a former massage therapist with a managerial past, brought his calming touch and practical skills to the table. A Place of Connection and Chi: Our journey led us to River Forest Campground, a place that instantly felt like home. We saw its potential as an outdoor retreat center, a space to cultivate community, share our love for art, nature, music, and offer a haven for self-discovery. We envisioned clean showers, beautiful amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere where campers could feel like family.” Scan the code on the right to visit the River Forest Campground website and info on all the fun area activities.

“Nestled in the heart of the Nicolet National Forest, our spacious campground offers the perfect blend of serenity and white water tubing, kayaking, and rafting adventures. Choose from fully wooded electric and non-electric sites, all with fire pits and picnic tables for cozy evenings under the stars. Wake up to the whisper of leaves and the song of birds. Explore the diverse trails of the forest, paddle the pristine waterways, or simply relax and soak in the peacefulness. Our campground is the ideal escape for families, couples, and nature enthusiasts alike. Ready to ditch the screens and dive into epic outdoor adventures? Buckle up, campers, because our neck of the woods is bursting with activities to make your adrenaline sing!”
