>WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS VEHICLE?

WHAT IS THE NEXT THING ON THE BUILD LIST?

I wanted something different something that would stand out in a sea of Jeeps and Tacomas Those platforms are great, but they dominate the overlanding scene I wanted a build that broke the mold a bit, and the Tundra gave me that opportunity Beyond just being unique, it offered the increased towing capacity and interior space I needed for long hauls and gear-heavy adventures.

Adventure Motors had already started building out this particular truck, and when I saw it on display at the MOORE Expo, I was sold. It checked all the boxes and then some it was exactly what I had envisioned, just better

Next up is a major electronics upgrade We’re sending the Tundra to Rynobuilt in Carthage, MO to install a full Redarc battery management system, including the RedVision and Manager30, paired with a 2000-watt inverter for serious off-grid capability. It’ll also be outfitted with a Mothy Offroad solar panel system using EcoFlow panels that can push up to 400 watts of charging power. We’re replacing the current topper with a new Venturous camper shell that features built-in toolboxes in the gullwing side windows perfect for housing all the new electronics Power will be stored in a 200Ah lithium setup from Lithium Battery Power, giving us plenty of energy to support communication gear, lighting, and remote work on the road.

>OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES OR HOBBIES?

>WHAT DOES OVERLANDING OR REMOTE TRAVEL MEAN TO YOU?

When we travel, I love getting the whole family involved whether it’s kayaking, biking, or exploring historical landmarks. I’m always on the lookout for unique local restaurants, and one of my favorite parts of any trip is meeting new people and learning about their stories I also really enjoy relaxing at camp and testing out new camping gadgets and gear there’s always something exciting to try out around the fire.

Overland travel is more than just a lifestyle it’s the heartbeat of everything I do It’s not only my personal passion but something that directly revolves around my work Through MOORE Expo and the Big Iron Overland Rally, I’ve had the incredible privilege of being surrounded by a community of like-minded adventurers, builders, creators, and explorers who have become lifelong friends For me, overlanding is about forging meaningful connections whether it’s a vendor I’ve worked with for years, a family camping beside me on the trail, or someone I just met who shares the same excitement for discovery and self-reliance. The people in this industry make it what it is, and their support is what keeps the community thriving It’s also about freedom, creativity, and pushing the boundaries of where we can go and how we get there I chose a platform that breaks the mold not just to stand out, but to reflect the uniqueness of the experiences I seek and the events I build. I love experimenting with new gear and gadgets, finding those hidden gems on the road, and making memories with my family that we’ll talk about for years. At its core, overlanding is about momentum. It’s the drive to keep moving forward, to grow the community, and to share the journey with those who make it unforgettable.

WHERE ARE YOU OFF TO NEXT?

We just returned from an unforgettable 2,500-mile journey through the Rockies Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana so for now, there’s nothing major planned. I’m looking forward to slowing things down a bit, spending some time with my daughter, and hitting a few expos and local events. Sometimes the best adventures aren’t about how far you go they’re about who you’re with and the community you’re surrounded by I’ll always be chasing that next great road trip, but for now, I’m focused on connecting with people, sharing stories, and enjoying the little things that make this lifestyle so rewarding

TRANSPORT TIPS: TOOLS

A QUICK, PRACTICAL GUIDE TO TRANSPORTING AND CARRYING TOOLS OFFROAD AND ON OVERLANDING TRIPS

TOOLTRANSPORTTIPS

Storage and Transport

1.Modular Tool Rolls- great for keeping hand tools organized and easy to grab, especially when working in tight spaces.

2.Stackable Boxes - offer modularity and can be secured with tie-downs

3.Drawer Systems-provide quick access and secure, rattle-free transport built right into your rig.

Securement & Safety

Inspect and inventory your tool kit before every trip.

Secure to prevent tools from movement during rough wheeling or in case of an accident. Make your toolbox or kit lockable and/or conceal to prevent theft.

Know how to use what you pack carry a service manual or offline repair guide. Avoid carrying unnecessary weight. Prioritize quality over quantity.

Off-road and overland adventures take you far from the conveniences of town and when something breaks, you're your own roadside assistance Carrying the right tools, and storing them safely, can mean the difference between a quick trail fix and a long hike out

Tool Kit Essentials

A proper overland tool kit should include hand tools like sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, a tire repair kit, and fuses tailored to your specific vehicle Specialty items such as a breaker bar, torque wrench, and multimeter are also useful for common trail-side repairs Don’t forget spare fluids, belts, and hoses if your rig has known weak points You can search online for tool kits specific to your vehicle or build your own to be ready for when the inevitable happens

Storage and Transport

Tools should be stored in secure, weather-resistant cases or bags Many overlanders use modular tool rolls, stackable boxes, or drawer systems to keep gear organized and rattle-free Avoid loose tools in your cargo area they can become dangerous projectiles on rough roads

Accessibility Matters

Mount or stow your most-used items where you can access them quickly, especially recovery gear like shackles and gloves A fold-out rear drawer, under-seat tray, or tailgate tool kit makes grabbing a needed item less of a chore when conditions are muddy or chaotic

A well-stocked and smartly packed tool kit helps ensure small problems stay small and keeps your adventure going when the trail gets rough.

SILVER LAKE SAND DUNES

WRITTEN & PHOTOGRAPHED BY

This year’s annual Toyota Takeover took place on Saturday, July 26th. With an uncertain weather forecast, we were uncertain about what the day had in store for us and what the turnout would be. To our surprise, the weather held off, and it was yet another successful event

Midwest 4X4s had their fleet of customized Toyotas included, a long-travel 3rd gen 4Runner, custom 4th gen 4Runner, and a freshly built short-bed regular cab 2nd gen Tundra, which was absolutely beautiful if you ask me Among the Midwest 4X4s rigs, there were approximately an additional 50 Toyota / Lexus vehicles ranging from a Tercel to heavily modified overland rigs to long-travel pre-Runner builds; their owners all with one thing in common: their love for Toyota/ Lexus vehicles and their long-standing reputation for reliability.

At noon, we had the raffle and group photo; Midwest 4X4 and Across the Tracks Outfitters handed out more prizes than anyone could count, and it seemed almost impossible not to win ( of course, I didn’t though ) followed by a group photo

The rest of the day, people broke into their groups and boogied around the dunes. The pre-Runner guys were more than gracious to give anyone who asked a ride, and what a ride they were. The speed they hit those whoops and how smooth it is will make you want to refinance your house to build one

Whether you spent the whole day bombing around, taking it slow trying not to rip your RTT off the roof, or just watching the drag races, it was as always an awesome time Until next year -Joe Yambor

BRONCOPALOOZA ‘25

THIRD ANNUAL BRONCO GATHERING IS MORE THAN JUST A CAR SHOW

The third annual Broncopalooza didn't unfold like our typical gatherings. A monsoon-like downpour kicked off the event just before our team was about to start setting up, but fortunately, the clouds parted as guests arrived, revealing a stunning day perfect for showcasing Broncos.

The event at Hamblock Ford in Belvidere featured a peerjudged car show with trophies, raffles, complimentary swag bags, food trucks, a bounce house, vendors, and live demonstrations by Tackform Mounts, Freedom Forged, and The Grasslot Boys Detailing. We were also joined by Maxlider Bro’s, Viva Chassis, Automotive Solutions, and several other companies proudly displaying their projects and expertise.

Following the car show, the Chicagoland Broncos offered two exciting options: off-roading at Rocky Glen OHV in Rockford, IL, or dinner, drinks, and a glow party at Coach’s Corner in Belvidere. The festivities continued into Sunday with two more options: hitting the trails at Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, Indiana, or embarking on a scenic drive around Lake Geneva, WI.

Despite the challenges, Broncopalooza 2025 was a resounding success, thanks to the tireless efforts of our planning committee, including Evan & Kourtney Peterson, Jody Cameron, Kim Percudani, Bernard Costa, Dan Beard, Jake Anderson, Brian Bohman, and Steve Maglio, along with dedicated volunteers Sarah Percudani, Sarah Anderson, Kim Whitt, and Erica Betz. We're grateful for the unwavering support of Hamblock Ford, who consistently exceed expectations for Broncopalooza. Mark your calendars for Broncopalooza 2026 – dates will be announced soon!
