Yadira Pena Murillo thanks Boardman community for generosity to her There wasn’t much left to see of Yadira Pena Murillo’s mobile home in Bella Vista when the fire was finally extinguished on August 4th. But the 2004 RHS graduate didn’t know anything about the fire, since she was in Kadlec Hospital with a severe case of viral pneumonia and her family wanted to shield her from more pain. Yadira and her 12 year old son Aiden were proud of their home -- they were close knit since Yadira’s husband (Aiden’s father) died in an automobile accident five years ago. They are close to each other and close with extended family. Neither of them knew how the Boardman community valued them, too! As word spread about the devastating fire and the fact they had no insurance to cover their loss, the community of Boardman rallied to the need. Fundraisers were planned and held, yard sales, a Go-Fund-Me account online, donation jars placed about town,

FaceBook messages sent far and wide, and then the community gathered at the remnants of the fire to clean it up. Construction equipment appeared, a huge dumpster was placed nearby, people cleaned up the ashes and burned remnants -- there was nothing to save. As Yadira healed, she learned of a friend-of-a-friend who had a mobile home for sale. Yadira’s parents, Jose and Lorena Pena (longtime owners of Pena’s Boutique in Boardman) inspected the mobile home and then showed it to Yadira and her son. A deal was struck, and thanks to the generosity of the community, the $12,500 needed for purchase and siting the mobile home on Yadira’s lot was raised. At press time, their new home is awaiting inspection and a few minor adjustments before they can move in. “This time, I’m going to buy insurance right away,” Yadira emphasizes. “I’m so grateful to my community,”

Nothing was left to salvage after the devastating fire at Yadira and Aiden’s home in Bella Vista, Boardman. The August 4th fire took all their belongings, but not their hope to go on.

Yadira says. “Without everyone’s help I don’t know what I would do!” She especially wants to thank Marcie Rodelo and family, the Catholic and Lutheran Churches, and everyone who pitched in on her behalf. Yadira can go on and on about all the help she’s received, but the community knows how much Yadira has given to her community, too. Whenever there is a Quinceañera, she’s the one who is always fixing all the girls’ hair for the celebration. She is an Educational Aide at Sam Boardman, where all the kids love her! Her motto is to “Pay it forward”, and she intends to live her life honoring that phrase.
