Confused about Zoom & FaceBook Live? So many public meetings are being held on the Internet via Zoom and FaceBook Live. Are you tech challenged? FaceBook has been around for several years, and many people LOVE it, while others HATE it! Some of us joined FaceBook way back as a means to stay in touch and see photos and videos of our loved ones who live far away. That is still a good reason to join. Others are worried about privacy, however if you are diligent when you sign up, you can set your privacy levels to something you are comfortable with. Zoom, (zoom.com) has become very popular during these challenging times as a method of holding meetings, whether they are city council, park board or classroom sessions. You can attend a Zoom meeting by clicking on a link specific to that meeting (you can check at cityofboardman.com for their link) and sometimes you have to enter a password in order to enter the meet-

ing. You can join a Zoom meeting from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. You can choose to show your own picture (live or not) and mute yourself so the rest of the attendees cannot hear you. FaceBook Live allows those who join to view the event “live” without anyone seeing or hearing you. This means if you have a comment you would like to make regarding the meeting, you would have to type in your comment in the “comments” section under the event. Try one or both of these methods of staying in touch with the community -- you’ll be surprised just how easy it turns out to be! On May 7th at 6:00 pm, Boardman Chamber of Commerce will hold a FaceBook Live event to describe the City of Boardman’s General Obligation Bond that is on our May 19th ballot. Go to www.facebook.com, then search “Boardman Chamber of Commerce” to find and join the event. You’ll be glad you did!

By: Casey Zellars, Lieutenant This weekend April 24-26, Boardman Fire held their annual Wildland Fire Academy. This class is usually open to surrounding departments but with the social distancing and Covid -19 policies this year's class was smaller than normal from past years. This year's class was attended by three Boardman Volunteers; Mark Sowa, Stacy Tan, and Ivonne Navarro. The Wildland Academy classes that were taught are the entry level NWCaG S-130/S-190 and L-180. These classes prepare new

Firefighters learn to prepare peresonal shelters -- just in case! firefighters to recognize hazards, tool handling, fire behavior, working as a crew, basic map reading, basic

weather, strategies, tactics, and how the command structure works all while keeping safety in mind. These students spent time out of their busy work and life schedule to attend and get the knowledge they need to become a greater asset to our community. On the final day of class they put all the components together for an afternoon in the field for hands on training. During their hands on training, they worked as a crew to build hand lines for controlling/containing a fire, learn how to deploy a fire shelter, and recognize hazards first hand. This year we were able to add another component to their training by adding live fire, by adding the live fire they were able to experience fire behavior first hand and how fast things can change in a moment's notice. At the end of the day, they will take all the classroom and field day learning and use it to help protect our community from wildfires!!! In addition to their wildland training, Mark, Stacy and Ivonne also completed their Structural Firefighter 1 classes and tests in early February.
