Boardman Chamber of Commerce 30th Annual Awards Banquet raises over $6,000 for Riverside High Scholarship Boardman Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Awards Banquet February 14th, where they thank some of the many volunteers who make things happen in Boardman. They recognized the past and present Chamber board members and the 200 + Chamber members. Anna Brown served as emcee for the festivities, which began with a cocktail reception. Each table was cleverly decorated by a sponsor, and the decorations were auctioned off by Paul Kramer to raise funds for scholarships. Over $6,000 was raised during the evening. Caterer Paradise Rose Chuck Wagon served the dinner. Serving was provided by the Riverside Jr/Sr FFA members. Over seventy nominations were received this year for awards by the Chamb er -- Boardman is so lucky to have wonderful volunteers in the area, and people who recognize their efforts!

Educator of the Year Judy Yoder

Judy Yoder Judy is the educational assistant at Windy River Elementary School. She is also a licensed substitute teacher. With all of the sickness this season, we have needed her help often. She has filled in for teachers frequently and is willing to do whatever is asked of her. She is always smiling, happy and a good influence for our students and staff. She has been an educator in the district for many years and is deserving of this nomination. Youth of the Year

Alexis Villegas and Torrie Griggs Alexis Villegas Alexis is a senior at Riverside Jr/ Sr High School. During her time there she has always been involved in volunteering in the community to help others. She is extremely goal oriented and is always pushing herself and others to be the best they can be. Alexis currently serves at the ASB President at Riverside. She has been extremely driven to leave a positive impact on her school. Alexis is working hard to continue promoting a positive environment for students and staff, and build school spirit. The ASB President project was to create a Hall of Fame at Riverside, and we will be inducting the 1st team into the Hall of Fame on Friday December 20th. This is a great way to acknowledge the accomplishments of students from the past, and bring them back to the school. Alexis is also the Riverside FFA Chapter president. She has been instrumental in her involvement in this program over the last couple of years. Her leadership has helped to promote this program and grow it in student numbers. She is very involved in the activities, competitions and volunteering in FFA. Overall, Alexis is the kind of student you want students to strive to be. She works hard academically,

is a positive example for others, makes others around her better, and is a genuinely kind hearted person! Citizen of the Year Muriel Darr In Muriel’s years of living in Boardman, she has been a committed volunteer and supporter of Greenfield Grange 579. Muriel Darr has loyally served as needed at the SAGE Center since it opened. Reliable Ms. Darr added shifts at Boardman Senior Center for the last year and half. Muriel Darr Pioneers of the Year Doug and Jane Pope Take your pick for all of the great reasons both these amazing people should be nominated as Pioneers for our community. Jane is co-editor, copublisher of the North Morrow Times. Doug is retired and enjoys supporting Jane, their family and our community. Both are great supporters of our local businesses and continue to help with Kiwanis, where Jane is serving her 2nd year as President. Through the years, they have quietly served our community by coaching kids, helping those is need and are just genuine good people, Boardman is fortunate to have them!.

Oregon Workforce Board was appointed by our commissioner. The internship brought students from local high schools into work environments for them to have a paid opportunity to learn about careers here in our community. She has supported the chamber and the local community college by bringing quality speakers and educators into Boardman to help educate us on various topics that are of benefit. She is supporting the Oregon Works Summer Internship program this summer. For the second year in a row “Nuts Bolts and Thingamajigs” has been occurring right here and bringing a fun way for young people to interact with local business leaders and enjoy learning.
