Boardman rallies together after the May 30th wind storm If you were in Boardman Saturday, May 30th, you will always remember the big winds that tore through the community. The National Weather Services recorded wind speeds of more than 70 mph. Homes were crushed by falling trees, cars, recreational vehicles, fences, nothing was spared. Hundreds of trees were destroyed and the debris will take weeks to clean up, even with all the volunteers who stepped up to help. The storm displaced 132 people who are now staying in motels and working with the Red Cross. Boardman Mayor Sandy Toms has been assigned to work with Red Cross food services. Meals are being prepared at Boardman Senior

by searching on FaceBook. An amazing fact is that out of all the destruction that occurred, there were no serious injuries or death, only a couple of minor mishaps. The Park still has no power or water (as of Monday, June 1st), and Umatilla Electric is working to restore power, but debris must be removed first. Portable restrooms are available onsite for those who stayed at their home and meals and water are being delivered there. The Port also designated a site near Coyote Springs Co-Gen Plant on Industrial Way for all debris to be piled. This is open to everyone with storm debris. Boardman Community Development Association donated two pallets of bottled water, which the Port of Morrow delivered to Wilson Road Trailer Park. “During all the turmoil, it’s wonderful to see how we’ve come together,” said Chief Rick Stokoe. The crews from the Port of Morrow, City of Boardman, Morrow County, local businesses and our volunteers” A big THANK YOU to everybody who posted their photos of the storm on the North Morrow Times FaceBook page!
