98% Angels Choir Ensemble while attending Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon. Since then, the duo has performed in shows around the area such as the Irrigon Watermelon Festival, Umatilla Landing Days, the Hermiston Variety Show and the Amboy Territorial Days. The ladies also volunteer their time singing in local assisted living homes. The style of music they perform ranges from 1930’s standards, Big Band Swing music, hits of the 50’s and the 60’s, and popular Contemporary and Country tunes. They will also also take time that evening to honor those men and women who have served in our armed forces. Piano Man Brady Goss will perform on July 8th for the FREE Music in the Parks outdoor summer concert series at the Boardman Marina Park, located off of N. Main Street on Marine Drive. Brady Goss was described from an early age as piano phenom. Today he is recognized as an electrifying entertainer. Those
speed and soulful vocals, loaded with passion that keep fans of all ages wanting more. Martin Gerschwitz is a classically trained German-born keyboard master. At the age of sixteen, Martin performed classical music with big German Orchestras, “Staedtisches Symphonie, Orchestra Solingen” and “The Bergische Symphonie Orchestra”. Back in 1968, his older brother (who became a very successful Cello

player) gave him a record to listen to ,”Five Bridges Suite” by THE NICE, K e i t h E m e r s o n ’s first band ...and Martin discovered Rock’n Roll !Martin has since toured the world with legendary rock bands and has perfected his own style utilizing his classical background and rock influence, making his music and shows a very versatile, unique, and delightful experience. Cruise Control will perform July 22th at Boardman Marina Park. Cruise Control is a 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s cover band that plays Rock, Pop, and Country Rock music. Together with their unique blend of voices, they play everything from the hard drivin’ rock and roll to the softer melodies that bring back the memories of special occasions and invite the listener to reminisce over experiences that used to be so clear. Feel free to tap your toe, dance, or just sing along, whichever makes you happy. From time to time the band provides an open mic for people in the audience to display their talents or fulfill their dream of singing with a rock band. The band is very versatile and many times will take requests from the era they cover. So if you have a favorite song you would like to hear, feel free to make your request and they will

do their best to make it happen. Fonozis are scheduled to perform on July 29th at the Irrigon Marina Park. Fonozis a band from Yakima WA, with influences in alternative
August 12th. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, chairs or blankets. The series is funded by the Morrow County Unified Recreation District and Portland General Electric and
Fonozis rock, Grunge, Punk rock, hard rock and psychedelic. Fonozis was formed in November 2018 between Ricardo Esquivel as a composer, guitarist and voice and Gastón Pérez as lead guitar. Alternating between Boardman and Irrigon Marina Parks. The concerts are free to the public and begin at 7 p.m. on Monday nights. The 2019 concert series runs through
sponsored by the North Morrow Community Foundation. In the event of inclement weather, Boardman performances will be held at the SAGE Center and Irrigon performances will be held at the Irrigon Senior Center. District expands summer free meals program (MORROW COUNTY) – The Morrow County School District is expanding its Summer Free Meals program this summer. The district is adding eight additional locations to increase access to free meals for children ages one year to 18 years of age. The focus of this program is to provide opportunities for children of all ages in Morrow County to be provided nutritious meals throughout the summer months. The program, which is federally funded and is administered through the Oregon Department of Education, will have meal sites in Boardman, Heppner, Irrigon and Lexington (see attached schedule for details). Sodexo is organizing the program, and five school district employees who work in food services during the school year have been hired for the summer.
Last year, the Morrow County School District served free meals, but only during summer school sessions. Dirk Dirksen, district superintendent, said research supports the benefit of summer food programs through: · decreased food insecurity · improved physical health · improved readiness to learn in school · opportunity for families to purchase more nutritious food versus cheaper foods “When the school year ends and summer arrives, children in our communities still need access to healthy meals. I feel strongly that none of Morrow County’s children should ever go without at least one nutritious meal every day,” said Dirksen. The district held a district-wide contest for students to submit their

ideas and artwork for the program name and slogan. The program is called “Wheels with Meals”, from Ms. Hodgdon’s class at Irrigon Elementary. Levi Whitmer from Mr. Schade’s class at Riverside Jr/Sr High had the winning slogan, “Feed a Smile.” Ms. Vanderpas’ class at Riverside, with students Luis Cardenas and April Mendieta, submitted the winning artwork. Mid Columbia Bus Company has donated two buses that are being retrofitted for serving the food from and many community partners have contributed to the program. As the summer progresses, some educational activities will be available at the locations, as well. For program updates, please visit the Morrow County School District website and Facebook page.

Boardman to fill council vacancy August 6th The Boardman City Council is seeking letters of interest from individuals willing to be considered for appointment to fill a vacancy on the City Council. The person appointed will fill Toni Connell’s Council seat, who resigned in June due to taking on a new position at the City of Boardman. Her term expires December 31, 2020. Those interested must have resided in the City of Boardman during the twelve months immediately preceding the appointment. Letters of interest must be received no later than 5:00pm, Thursday, August 1, 2019 to City Manager, Karen Pettigrew at Boardman City Hall for consideration. The City Council will interview the candidates, and appoint the new Councilor at their August 6, 2019 City Council meeting, scheduled for 7pm.
Boardman utility rate increase begins in July During their June 4, 2019 meeting, the Boardman City Council approved resolutions for a 5% increase in the city’s water and sewer rates. The city previously approved a garbage rate increase of 8% due to the city’s garbage contractor increasing their fees. The rate increase is due to future improvements to the city’s water and sewer system. The last time the water and sewer rates were increase was in 2016. The water and sewer rates reflect an increase of 5% across all rate types. Currently the residential water, sewer, and garbage combined base rate is $56.10 and beginning July 1st the combined rate will be $59.27, an increase of $3.17 per unit. The residential water base rate will be $17.33 and the residential sewer base rate will be $28.88. The new rates will take effect July 1, 2019.

Morrow County 4-H group June 13-16 at Cutsforth Park in Heppner Tri-County 4-H Camp 4th-6th graders, participated in the Tri-County 4-H Camp June 13-16 at Cutsforth Park in Heppner. Campers were from Morrow, Wheeler and Gilliam counties. While at camp, youth learned about tree identification, ecology and fire suppression from the US Forest Service, enjoyed rigorous physical activities, partook of multiple hands-on craftsmanship sta-
tions and made some great friends! Camp is open to all Morrow County youth finishing grades 4-6 each year. 4-H membership not required. 4-H State Trapshooting Morrow County 4-H had a very successful first year of shooting sports with 28 trapshooting participants from across the county. Of the 28, 16 qualified for the state contest and 7 were able to attend
the state trapshooting event in Albany June 18-19. Congratulations to the first competitors from our county! Each year, Columbia Basin Electric Cooperative selects two juniors from their service district to represent their area. This year mark the 106th fair for Morrow County and the 97th year for the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo. The theme is “Treasure Chest of Morrow County’s Best” so bring your talent and show it off at the Morrow County Fair! We are excited to bring many opportunities to make great lasting memories with family and friends. Fair this year will run Wednesday August 14 th through Saturday August 17th. Boardman sponsors community wide clean up in July The City of Boardman will sponsor a community-wide clean-up the month of July. The City has garbage vouchers available, with a fiftydollar limit, to residents of the City of Boardman. The vouchers are valid during the month of July at Finley Butte Landfill and the North Morrow Transfer Station. The garbage voucher program encourages citizens to clean up their residences by disposing of yard debris. City residents may pick up their vouchers at Boardman City Hall at

Ribbon cutting held for Port View Apartments BOARDMAN, Ore (June 15, 2019) – Boardman Chamber executive director Torrie Griggs and board member Kalie Davis were present to celebrate the official ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:30pm on Saturday June 15, 2019 with the employees and manager Tonya Buys of Port View Apartments. The event was well attended by the residents and fellow community members. To celebrate the day Port View Apartments had street tacos catered by Taco’s Xavi. The kids enjoyed a 54’ bouncy obstacle course and to keep the party going Power 99.1 from the tri-cities was there playing music. The Boardman Police and Boardman Fire Department were also in attendance to show their support. Port View Apartments are being built in two phases. Phase one is complete with a 100% occupancy. Phase two has begun with foundations being poured for the remaining buildings. Port View Apartments are a great addition to our community filling the housing need. PENDLETON – The InterMountain Education Service District recently received several grants for its Oral Health Program that serves students in eastern Oregon. The Oregon Community Foundation granted $60,000 for the 2019-2020 school year. This is the final year for this funding. The IMESD received $6,115 from the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, $4,488 from Wildhorse Foundation, $1,630 from Pendleton Trust Foundation and $1,000 from Hermiston Kiwanis to provide dental health education materials to elementary schools in Morrow and Umatilla Counties. Each elementary school will receive their own mini dental education lab with lessons on tooth brushing, flossing, the importance of fluoride varnish, nutrition and teeth and sealants. Another part of the Oral Health Program involves expanded practice dental hygienists from Advantage Dental from DentaQuest who provide screen-
ings, fluoride treatment, sealants, dental kits and referrals for students ages pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. From July 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019, the program served more than 8,000 children. “We are excited to have continued funding through the Oregon Community Foundation and local support from so many foundations and Advantage Dental from DentaQuest in order to ensure the sustainability of our program through the 2019-20 school year and beyond,” said Cathy Wamsley, coordinator of IMESD’s school-based Oral Health Program. The IMESD serves 18 school districts across Morrow, Umatilla and Union counties.
Boardman adopts 20192020 City and Urban Renewal Agency budgets During their June 4th meetings, the Boardman City Council adopted the 2019-2020 City budget of $21,218,787.00 and the Urban Renewal Agency adopted their 2019-2020 budget of $3,063,000.00. City property taxes will be levied at a rate of $4.2114 per $1000 of assessed valuation and $410,000 will be levied for bonded indebtedness not subject to Measure 5 or Measure 50 limitations. City Budget Officer, Thomas Kligel said the city will close the 2018-2019 fiscal year on a highly positive note with the completion of four major capital projects, which includes a new water main, street upgrades on Faler and Olson Road, and the creation of water service to the Laurel Lane area. The focus for 2019-2020 will be to support continued housing development started in the previous years, additionally, activity in city road mainte-
nance and to be proactive in the continued development of the Urban Renewal District’s projected long-term capital projects. In other City business, the Council approved allowing the Pirate Football Program the use of the soccer fields along NE Front Street for Saturday games. The league intends on improving the field for a multi-sport usage, to include bleachers, and muti-purpose goals. They will come back to the Council with detailed plans at the next city council meeting. The council approved upgrading the police department’s radio system with encryption technology. The council also approved closing city hall on Friday, July 5, 2019. The next meeting of the Boardman City Council will be Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 7:00pm.

ISO collects and evaluates information from communities in the United States on their structure fire suppression capabilities. They analyze the data using our Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) and then assign a Public Protection Classification (PPC) number to the community. The PPC program provides important, up -to-date information about fire protection services in the fire district. The Irrigon Rural Fire Protection District is rated a Class 5/8B. Check with you insurance company to find out what they rated you on fire protection of your home. Remember a class 5/8B is the fire class with in the Irrigon Rural Fire protection District. riends of the Irrigon Library have a busy month coming up in July. They are sponsoring the Irrigon Co-Ed Softball Tournament July 27th and 28th, which is the same weekend as the Irrigon Watermelon Festival July 27th. There will be two raffles held during the Co-Ed Softball Tournament. The first is a signed Basketball from the Portland Trail Blazers, Tickets are on sale now for $5. The second raffle has many prizes including tickets to Silverwood, Triple Play, The Pendleton Round-Up, Farm City Pro Rodeo, Oregon Zoo, High Desert Museum, gift baskets, gift cards and a lot more. There will be a baked goods booth at The Watermelon Festival, and a concession booth at the CoEd Softball Tournament. If you would like to help out please contact Jennifer or Barb. If you live in Irrigon and have a child 0 to five years of age you can sign them up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library at the Irrigon branch of the Oregon Trail Library. This program allows your child to receive one book a month for free. Friends of the Irrigon Library help fund the summer reading program, and funds from the raffles will be used to support and enhance the Irrigon library. They have used funds to buy blinds to prevent sun damage, provided furniture for the community meeting room, bought a sound system for use in meetings and lectures, and more.
