GO Bond for Boardman Rec Center to be on Nov. ballot
The artist’s rendering (above) shows what the front of the Recreation Center will look like. The 50,000 sq. ft. structure will be located adjacent to the SAGE Center. Boardman Park & Recreation District (BPRD) President Karen Pettigrew announced the district has placed a general obligation bond in the amount of $12.390 million on the November 4, 2014 ballot for voter approval. The money raised by the bond will fund the purchase of six acres of land adjacent to the SAGE Center for the construction of Boardman Community Recreation Center. When complete, the approximately 50,000
square foot, 2-story structure is expected to include a 25 meter, 6-lane indoor swimming pool with slide and waves, a warm water therapy pool, gymnasium & bleachers with 2 basketball courts, a climbing wall, fitness center with equipment, aerobic room, year round indoor walking track, a multipurpose community room, lockers, concessions and storage. The project is the culmination of over 25 years of dreams, hopes and plans.
“Boardman has long awaited a swimming pool and recreation center to enhance the livability of the Boardman community. Boardman Park & Recreation District conducted community surveys, employer interviews and a comprehensive market analysis to determine that the new construction of a recreation center would meet the needs of our growing community, promote community growth and benefit the health of Boardman’s
residents. The Park District is pleased to bring this center before the voters, and are looking for your support,” says Pettigrew. The Park invites the public for a Kick-Off Celebration on Monday, September 8th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Harold Baker Pavilion in Boardman Marina Park. Free hot dogs, chips, soda and ice cream will be served. The Park asks that the public come learn more about this exciting project and how you can
help make it happen! Boardman Park & Recreation District was formed in a special election in July, 1966 and encompasses a northern portion of Morrow County. Their permanent tax rate of $0.2989 per $1,000 has provided development of a marina with public and rental boat docks, softball and soccer fields, horseshoe pits, a basketball court, campground and miles of popular, paved walking trails along the Columbia River.
