Kiwanis Club ‘pirates’ up for annual Boardman Hallowe’en party After eleven years, the Boardman Kiwanis Club has the kinks worked out of putting on a Hallowe’en party for 650 to 800 kids. The 24 club members all pitch in to help co-chairs Diane Wolf and Pam Docken make it happen. The Riverside High School Key Club students decorate the 27 doors at the high school and assist with the event also. Kathie Goad is the advisor of the Riverside Key Club. Morrow County Unified Recreation District provides a grant of $1610 so the Kiwanis can purchase candy through Boardman Select Market at preferable rates. The Kiwanis members and other community volunteers dress up in costumes and hand out a piece of candy to each child at each of the 27 doors from 6:00 to 7:30 pm Hallowe’en evening. Even the Boardman Chief of Police participates! Children from babies through age 12 are welcome to participate. A favorite this year will be a fake “graveyard” complete with sound effects. This will be sure to raise the hair on the back of anyone’s neck! This year, the theme is “Pirates of the Columbia”. The children (and parents, too!) can purchase a hot dog, bag of chips and a Pepsi for $1 at the event. The Kiwanis Club of Boardman has been active for eleven years. Their motto is “To serve children of the world”. Some of their projects include providing dictionaries to each third grade student in Irrigon and Boardman each year, scholarships for college-bound Riverside graduates; Easter Egg Hunt, Rollin on the River, wood bundling for Boardman Marina Park, Christmas with Santa, recognizing Windy River Elementary students who have achieved a 4.0
