Beauty Lou and the Country Tillicum Club plans innovative fund raiser Beast– What’s it all about?

If you awake one morning to find an unsuspected flock of a half dozen large, bright pink flamingos in your front yard...don’t be alarmed. This is the current fundraiser for the Boardman Tillicum Club! Once a flock of flamingos lands in your yard, homeowners may

choose—for a minimum $5.00 donation—to simply have the birds removed, or for the same $5.00 donation, suggest to have the birds moved in a neighbor’s yard or another friend’s yard. Tillicum members will then sneak around to find the flock their new home! For removal of the birds call 541-571-7313, but be prepared to pay the “ransom” before they can be removed! The birds will be tagged with the information on them. All proceeds of this ongoing fundraiser will go toward the scholarships for Riverside graduating seniors. Tillicum Club thanks the community in advance for their support of this project.

Missoula Children’s Theatre presents Beauty Lou and the Country Beast, an original country western adaptation of the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast in two performances Saturday, January 22, at AC Houghton Elementary School, in Irrigon. The Saturday Matinee performance is at 3:30 pm, and evening performance at 5:30 pm. Just how is Beauty Lou different from the Classic Beauty and the Beast? Missoula Theater western adaptations of classic stories are always hilarious. Beauty Lou is the oldest daughter of the Bronc-bustin’ balladeer Buck. At the local county fair, young Beauty Lou is upset by the behavior of a miner who has won the blue ribbon for his beautiful roses. She calls him a beast and wishes that he would look like one too. Years later, when in danger of losing the family farm, Buck meets the miner-turned-beast. Beauty Lou agrees to befriend the Beast in order to save her family. Beauty Lou and the Beast both learn to look beyond appearances and first impressions to see the beauty that dwells inside. The story, set in the American West,

also features Beauty Lou’s six sisters, her Imaginary Friend, her dog Fleabite Clyde, farmhands Slim and Dusty, the neighborly Country Folk and the Barnyard Critters. Beauty Lou and the Country Beast was conceived and written by Jim Caron. Music and lyrics by Michael McGill and Jim Caron, the same talented duo that

created Wiz of the West in 2008. Young actors always need an audience. Please support our local youth with your presence at one of the two performances on January 22. Tickets are available at the door, $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for youth. Doors close 5 minutes before show time: 3:30 and 5:30 PM.
