Let’s try it again! Due to the inclement weather in January, the Community Spaghetti Dinner sponsored by Boardman Senior Center was cancelled. However, the parking lot is cleared, and everybody is suffering from cabin fever, so we’ll try this again! Community Spaghetti Dinner will be held Wednesday, February 15th, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. Adults, $6.50, ages 12 and under, $3.00. Enjoy spaghetti with meat sauce, tossed salad, garlic bread, coffee, juice or milk, and a choice of homemade desserts. The Community Dinners are held the third Wednesday of each month (weather permitting) and are
sponsored by Boardman Senior Center. The proceeds go towards all the expenses of running the Community’s Senior Center: heat, lights, etc. Don’t forget the Tuesday and Thursday Boardman Senior Center lunches: $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, which includes entree, salad, choice of coffee, juice or milk, and wonderful desserts! Each “first” Saturday of the month, Boardman Senior Center holds a Breakfast: 7:30 to 10:30 am, ham or sausage, hash browns, eggs, pancakes or toast, biscuits & gravy, coffee milk or juice...all you can eat for $5.00!

Wildhorse, Good Shepherd grants provide exercise stations in Marina Baby it’s COLD outside! But the wintery weather has not prevented some Boardman hardy souls from their walk along the Columbia River on the Boardman Marina trail. Recently, that trail became a lot more interesting with seven new exercise stations. Thanks to grants from Wildhorse Foundation and Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, $15,000 in outdoor fitness equipment was selected and installed for community use. Pictured at right, Jennifer Hernandez illustrates the Combo Press & Pull, which combines the seated lat pull and seated chest press and can handle two users simultaneously. This composite fitness structure has a great functional range of motion and is a perfect upper-body workout. Other equipment stations include: Air Strider: a smooth no-impact cardio workout that exercises both the upper and lower body with a cross-country skiing motion. Back Extension: this enhances lower back and hamstring strength, proper fexibility, improved posture and body alignment. Parallel Bars: These can be used for dips, support for lunges and a variety of stretches. Pull Up & Dip Station: This is a multi-purpose product used to perform pullups, pushups, dips, leg lifts and stretching exercises. It is designed to help improve strength and flexibility. Sit-Up Board: This is a compact, efficient and effective for abdominal exercises and back stretches. Squat Press: This uses progressive resistance; the further you extend, the more intense your workout becomes. Safer than free weights, you can perform biceps curls, shoulder shrugs, traditional
Boardman Park & Recreation District employee Jennifer Hernandez recently demonstrated how she uses the Combo Press & Pull during her workouts. The equipment is installed in-ground along the RV Park portion of the trail, however if a walking trail is constructed at the Recreation Center site, District Manager Ted Lieurance says “This equipment will be easy to relocate.” Boardman Park & Recreation District is moving their efforts towards community fitness. Their Recreation Center is being constructed near the SAGE Center, with amenities that include two basketball courts in a gymnasium, an Aerobics room, a Weight room, a Therapy pool, a laned swimming pool for laps, plus a Recreation pool with a vortex feature and a slide. The Park is busy planning various
classes and events for when the Recreation Center opens in early summer. The cold and snow has slowed some of the construction, but staff assure us that the Center will be complete and open when school is out for the summer! A membership drive is under way, with discounts for annual membership and special rates for corporate membership. A brochure will be available within the next few weeks detailing the various categories of membership. One special note: those of us who live within the District (Boardman and nearby rural areas) are eligible for special “In-District” rates, since we already pay taxes to fund the structure through our property taxes.
