BACKGROUND

Thank you for your interest in participating in the international invited call to celebrate North Lands Creative 25th anniversary year. The work for sale in the exhibition will be auctioned and the funds raised will offer future scholarship opportunities to allow us to maintain our position as a centre of excellence, encouraging talented artists to apply to our artistic programme, irrespective of socio-economic background.

North Lands Creative has been driving the discourse on glass that explores the diversity, future value of glass art, and fostering new possibilities for reinterpreting traditional values, thereby cementing itself as one of the most prestigious international centres of excellence in the realm of glass all around the world.

For the fifth edition of The Venice Glass Week, we plan to present the most wonderful group exhibition of small artworks based on the interpretation of the ‘paperweight’.

We are asking all invited artists and studios to provide a small artwork for the exhibition.

SPECIFICATIONS

We are asking all invited artists and studios to provide a small artwork for the exhibition.

The artwork must be made to accommodate within the dimensions of 8cm (width) x 8cm (height) (we will allow for some discretion over/ under the size).

The material used must be predominantly glass but other materials can be included in the piece.

The completed piece does not need to be based on the traditional form of a paperweight, we welcome signatory items that will express a wide range of form and technique.

The artwork must be able to be freestanding and not require additional props or mounts.

The artwork must be available to be entered into our auction (all proceeds going towards scholarships)

The exhibition will be held online in addition to the on-site exhibition.

Please provide a high resolution image of your work for PR purposes.

We request that all art work arrive at our studio in Lybster no later than the 25th July 2021. lease contact us as soon as possible if you think this may be an issue for you.

AUCTION

The artwork in the Assembly exhibition will be sold in a special auction where buyers can bid for the artwork by lots.

How it works - we will agree a reserve price with each artist. Buyers can see the ‘lots’ by joining our auction webpage and bid on their favourite pieces during the Venice Glass Week. The sale of each paperweight will go towards continuing to fund North Lands Creative scholarship programme which offers invaluable support to students that visit to study and advance their knowledge and skills in glass making.

04 ABOUT VENICE GLASS WEEK Glass has been deeply embedded in Venice’s DNA for over 1,000 years, and thanks to the knowledge and skills that have been handed down and evolved over the centuries, Murano glass continues to be admired and celebrated around the world to this day.

The Venice Glass Week is the international festival that the city of Venice dedicates to the art of glass, with a programme that includes exhibitions, demonstrations, guided tours, online events and more. The fifth edition will take place from 4th to 12th September 2021.
