FAREWELL FROM THE DIRECTOR’S DESK Thank you to the community of North Kansas City. It has been my pleasure serving you since 2010. I have accepted a new position effective January 4, 2021. I started with Parks and Recreation as Recreation Manager. Over the many years I oversaw, youth sports, senior services, and special events. I was instrumental in bringing back the Mayor’s Tree, redesigning the park logo and developing our current Enrichment catalogue. In 2014, I was promoted to Director and was tasked by an energized Park Board and city staff to bring you the highly sought-after Waggin’ Trail Dog Park and Dagg Park Spray ground. During my 6 years as Director, we increased our event offerings to the community to include Arts in the Park, Friday Night Concerts, Movie in the Park, and events for our four-legged friends. I have made some amazing friendships with local businesses and residents that I will cherish always. The joy of seeing and speaking with our senior participants when they come into the Parks and Recreation Center for bingo or cards, the laughter I hear when watching children play sports, or a mother and daughter taking one of our DIY classes is why I am in the industry of recreation. We work while people play, and that thrills my heart. Thank you, residents, businesses, and colleagues of the City of North Kansas City, for an amazing opportunity to develop and grow a remarkable Parks and Recreation system and services. Well wishes for a healthy and vibrant 2021!

Sports YOUTH BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL North Kansas City Parks & Recreation youth sports programs are NON-COMPETITIVE leagues. The programs emphasize skill development, learning the rules of the game, playing as a team, sportsmanship, and most importantly to have FUN! Children may register with one “buddy” for youth team sports. BOTH registration forms must be received along with the registration fee for each child at the same time. If you are new to the NKC Sports Program, you will be placed on a team by the NKC Parks & Recreation staff.

T-BALL (CO-ED) Ages 4-6 by May 1

T-ball is the foundation of every future baseball/softball player’s career. Teams focus on understanding the basics of the game, having fun and making new friends. Our goal is for each child to learn the correct skills for batting, throwing and catching to encourage their passion for baseball/softball. All practices and games are held at Macken Park. Practice begins the first week of May. Co-Ed T-ball: Activity #105006 Fee: $70

COACH PITCH

Ages 7-9 by May 1 Players will learn to hit the ball as it is being pitched from a coach and cooperate as a team to earn runs and outs. The primary goal is to prepare your child for the next level of play. Practices are held at Macken Park and begin the first week of May. Games will be played at Macken Park and Happy Rock Softball Complex. Co-Ed Baseball: Activity #105007 Fee: $80 Girls Softball: Activity #105112 Fee: $80

KID PITCH

Ages 10-12 by May 1 Kid Pitch baseball is the final step in our recreation program toward preparing players for competitive play. Players are introduced to other players pitching and incorporate all their skills from batting, throwing and fielding. Your child will completely understand the essence of baseball/softball after completing the season. Practices are held at Macken Park and begin the first week of May. Games will be played at Macken Park and Happy Rock Softball Complex. Co-Ed Baseball: Activity #105008 Fee: $95 Girls Softball: Activity #105113 Fee: $95

YOUTH EVENTS PITCH HIT AND RUN

Ages 7-14 | Macken Park Diamond #2

Major League Baseball Pitch Hit & Run is a FREE event that tests three of the most fundamental aspects of baseball and softball – Pitching, Hitting and Running: PITCH: Participant is tested throwing strikes to a designated Strike Zone target. HIT: Participant hits a ball off a stationary tee for distance and accuracy. RUN: Participant is timed, starting from second base, touching third then touching home plate.

All of the events are individually scored and converted to a total point score through the use of conversion tables. Participants will compete in each of the three components of Major league Baseball Pitch Hit & Run and accumulate total score based on his/her performance. PRESCHOOL SPORTS BITTY SOCCER (CO-ED)

Ages 3-5 (Must be 3 by Jan. 1, 2021) This program is a five-week introductory session to the sport of soccer. Participants will begin to understand the fundamental motor skills of soccer through drills, games and activities. The last week of the program will be designated as a scrimmage. ADULT SPORTS RECREATIONAL “E” LEVEL MEN’S/CO-ED SUMMER SOFTBALL This is an E-LEVEL softball league. The main focuses of this league is friendly competition, building camaraderie, and having fun! Coed Games are on Sunday evenings and Mens Games are Thursday nights. All games are played at Macken Park. Teams are required to provide their own game balls. Each team will play 8 double-header regular season games with an end of season tournament for a total of 10 games. Teams must pay a $50.00 non-refundable deposit to hold their spot. All fees must be paid in full by March 12, or the team will risk losing its spot.
