TABLE OF CONTENTS Dagg Park Spray Ground has been open for the summer 2016 season. The City and Parks and Recreation Department have been experiencing exceptional success with this park. It is wonderful to watch the children enjoy the spray from Stevie the Stingray, Finn the Fun Fish, Tommy the Turtle, Martha the Manta Ray and many more features. This park has brought so many families outdoors and into the community that may not have had the ability to be outdoors and enjoying a special part of summer, water. The tower on the playground has been a challenge and thrill for kids of all ages, which is what playing outdoors is all about. The department held its first Golazo Soccer Camp with professional soccer player Leo Gibson with the Comets. The players had such a great time learning skills, and practicing drills which will enhance their skill level for the fall season of soccer. Sports Coordinator Robert Wages and I spent a day with the campers working on drills and scrimmaging. I had forgotten how much running was involved in soccer!

Our summer events consisted of three Friday Night Concerts and two movies. We had to cancel a movie due to the extreme heat. These events are free to the community and offer something for everyone. We have a variety of events this fall for all ages, and we hope to see you there. Please see page 7 for more information. A steering committee of City Council Members, Parks and Recreation Board members and staff have begun the early stages to design the new Parks and Recreation building which will be located in Macken Park on the south side of Clark Ferguson between the parking lot and Wheel Park.

Get your preschoolers active mentally and physically with this 4 week program. Each week we will explore Basketball, Golf, Hockey, and Fishing. This program will show the basics and fundamentals of each sport, with drills and practice, as well as fun crafts and games to keep the participants mentally active as well! Hours of Operation: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily, Memorial Day to Last Sunday in September (weather permitting) Park Rules 1. In the event of an emergency, call 911 or use the Emergency Call Box located on the exterior wall of the family changing room. 2. There is no attendant on duty; use at your own risk. 3. Vacate the premises immediately when there are any signs of thunder, lightning, or severe weather. 4. Bathing suits or swim trunks are required for all spray ground users. 5. Children who are not toilet trained are required to wear a swim diaper or rubber pants without a diaper. 6. Parental or guardian (18 years or older) supervision is required for all children ages 13 years and younger. 7. Any person with open sores, cuts or obvious skin or body infections is not permitted on or in the spray ground. 8. Be considerate of others. All participants of the spray ground must conduct themselves in a courteous, safe, and familyoriented manner.

WAGGIN′ TRAIL OFF-LEASH DOG PARK 432 EAST 32ND AVENUE

Waggin’ Trail Off-Leash Dog Park is 4.70 acres, with designated areas for small dogs (less than 30 lbs.) and large dogs (more than 30 lbs.). Park Rules 1. All Park patrons must comply with the park rules as stated. Persons failing to comply with the rules may be subject to a formal complaint filed with the North Kansas City Police Department. Persons asked to leave the park premises who do not comply may be subject to prosecution for trespassing. 2. Off-leash dog areas are for dogs and their handlers. No animals other than dogs shall be permitted in the areas. No other use is permitted, including skateboard, bicycles, scooters, strollers and rollerblades. 3. Handlers must “scoop the poop” and dispose of waste in designated Park provided container. (Ordinance 6.12.120) 4. To create a positive experience for you and your dog, make sure your dog knows how to appropriately socialize with other dogs before using the Park. 5. Dog owners assume all risk related to the use of the Dog Park. The Cities of North Kansas City or Kansas City shall not be liable for any injury or damage caused by dogs or handlers. Handlers are responsible for any injuries caused by dog(s) under their control. 6. Dogs that exhibit aggressive behavior are not allowed in the park. Dogs must be removed immediately from park at the first sign of aggression. (Ordinance 6.12.090) 7. Dogs in the Small Dog area are to be less than 30 pounds. No dogs under the age of 4 months are allowed. All dogs exceeding 30 pounds are required to use the Large Dog area.

Female dogs in heat and dogs with fresh wounds are not allowed in the Dog Park. (Ordinance 6.12.100) All dogs must be current on their vaccinations along with displaying current tag on a collar or harness. (Ordinance 6.12.020) SPIKED COLLARS ARE NOT ALLOWED. All animal to human bites must be reported to the City of North Kansas City Animal Control Department immediately. (Ordinance 6.16.020) Dogs must be on leash, a maximum length of 6 feet, when entering and exiting the off-leash dog areas. Handlers must have possession of the dog leash at all times. No dogs are allowed within the off-leash area while restrained by a leash. Children 5 and under are not allowed in the off-leash dog areas. Children 6 – 15 must be accompanied by an adult and handlers must be a minimum of 16 years of age. Dogs must be under voice control of their handler and in view of their handler at all times. Only 2 dogs are allowed per handler. Handlers must repair all holes and damage done by their dog under their supervision. Park Hours of Operation are 6AM to Sunset or 9PM whichever comes first.

PARKS MEMORIAL PARK
Located at 716 East 23rd Avenue adjacent to the North Kansas City High School. The park is defined by a street meridian and contains several features commemorating the history of wars fought involving American citizens. A replica of the Statue of Liberty is located in Memorial Park.
MACKEN PARK
Located at the corners of Clark Ferguson Drive and Howell Street is home to many varied park activities. This 60-acre park is utilized for sports leagues, walking, picnicking and several forms of recreation.

Geocaching is a worldwide, treasure hunting adventure! North Kansas City Parks and Recreation has joined the movement and hidden a cache somewhere in our park systems.
