SINCE 1988

A DESTINATION FOR DESIGN INSPIRATION

One year ago we were proud to announce the opening of our first downtown Toronto showroom, The Plank Studio, located in a repurposed 1930's flour mill. With one year in the books, we have expanded the Toronto Plank Studio to further enhance the client experience that we continually strive to better.

This 2,000 sq.ft expansion allowed us to create a more in-depth experience that takes the client through the whole process starting with the raw materials and the numerous handcrafted processes right through to the final finishing and the individual natural ingredients that we use to create a protective finish that enhances the wood’s natural beauty.

The concept was designed to give our clientele a better understanding of the depth of craftsmanship and passion that goes into making their wide plank floor. Just looking at a finished plank presented nicely on the wall doesn’t tell you that whole story; there’s so much more behind the scenes that make these floors so exclusive.

Stepping into the creative space (the new expansion), you experience the soothing sound of a trickling water fall, surrounded on both sides by a luscious green wall and a lounge area. Here you can sit in comfort enjoying a cup of coffee while envisioning your dream specialty wide plank floor.

Lastly, there are two creative spaces where the final decisions are made, and options are narrowed down. On display are large sections of the majority of our collections with large tables for laying out samples for colour matching everything from your wood, tile, cabinets, textiles, etc. This allows the client to review different design scenarios whether it be integrating a pattern using herringbone or exploring different colour options that may not have been considered at the start of the process.

A STUNNING NEW HOME PLACED AMONGST THE ROLLING HILLS OF QUEBEC PAYS HOMAGE TO THE OLD BARNS THAT ONCE STOOD IN THE AREA.

AN HOUR AND A HALF EAST OF MONTREAL THE LANDSCAPE BEGINS TO RISE INTO ROLLING FARMLAND PUNCTUATED BY LAKES AND SMALL MOUNTAINS. JUST BEFORE YOU REACH VERMONT, THE TOWN OF NORTH HATLEY SITS AT THE UNLIKELY MEETING POINT OF THE NORTH-EASTERN UNITED STATES AND QUEBEC. SETTLED BY THE BRITISH LOYALISTS WHO FLED CONNECTICUT DURING THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE, THE FARMS AROUND THE TOWN OF NORTH HATLEY ARE AS MUCH CONNECTED TO THE CULTURE OF THE EARLY AMERICAN COLONIES AS THEY ARE TO THE QUEBECOIS BARNS OF THE SEIGNEURIES. THE RICH VARIETY OF AGRICULTURAL BUILDING IN THE AREA IS THE BACKDROP FOR THE TOWNSHIPS FARMHOUSE, DESIGNED BY LEE AND MACGILLIVRAY ARCHITECTURE STUDIO (LAMAS).

The client for the house is a farmer/artist couple with long ties to the area and a keen interest in land conservation and preservation of agricultural buildings; the house is clad in repurposed hemlock salvaged from dilapidated barns in Ontario.

The house is situated on a working farm and is sensitive to the seasonal changes of farm life; the barn doors on the facade are not ornamental but can be closed to protect the large expanses of glass from cycles of ploughing, sowing and harvesting. Vivian Lee, one of the principals of LAMAS explains, “Although it is obviously geared towards domestic habitation, the design of the house was always meant as an evolution of farm buildings and the unique ways that they structure space.”

The concept of views dovetailed nicely into the architect’s understanding of agricultural buildings, “Our first design decision was to take the concept of the “aisle” from barns—essentially a thoroughfare for bringing in materials and livestock - and repurpose it outwards to capture views from the surrounding fields.” Because the house is arranged in a courtyard formation it goes back in on itself and the interior spaces can be superimposed onto the background of the landscape in unexpected compositions. The windows frame views that capture the intersections of spaces within the house, through the house, and outside the house. Everything that used to be functional becomes visual and spatial.

TERMS AND PAYMENT

These Terms and conditions apply to the sale of all Northern Wide Plank products. Your purchase is your consent to follow these terms and conditions and have them apply to you. Customers are responsible for checking all information on their proposal, sales order or invoice to confirm, product(s), details, quantity, shipping method and pricing are correct. Changes to already confirmed orders such as changes to products, specs, quantities, or shipment method may result in additional charges. To initiate the order, we require a 50% NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT. The balance of the invoice must be paid in full before shipment. Lead times are not confirmed until all details are confirmed and the deposit is received. Northern Wide Plank does not take any responsibility for your decision to purchase and believes that the customer has researched, done their due diligence, and made use of and reviewed these Terms & Conditions as well as Northern Wide Plank’s warranty, installation, maintenance guides and any educational info available on Northern Wide Plank’s website northernwideplank.ca. Northern Wide Plank believes that you as a customer have made an informed decision on your choice of flooring or wall product, including grading, colour, and texture that will withstand the environment that it is placed within.

DELIVERY SCHEDULE AND STORAGE FEES

Although we do make every effort to ensure your order is ready for shipment on or before the required date we do not guarantee lead times and will not be held responsible for any consequential or punitive measures as a result of a late shipment. Completed orders will be stored free of charge for up to 60 days from the date the order is completed. After that, the order must be paid in full and will be subject to storage charges at a rate of $25.00 per pallet, per week. Any accrued storage charges must be paid for in full before shipment of your order. In the event you should not be able to accept delivery of a shipment already in transit that you have agreed to, you will be subject to all applicable redelivery charges, storage fees and any other charges incurred as a result of your cancellation.

SHIPMENT

All orders are F.O.B. Schomberg, Ont. At the request of the customer Northern Wide Plank will arrange to have your order shipped to the specified address and the charges will be displayed on your invoice. Upon delivery, the shipment must be inspected for any damaged or missing goods. In the event that there is damaged or missing goods it must be marked on the bill of lading and Northern Wide Plank notified within 24 hours along with supporting photos showing the damage. Any shipment that is damaged in part or whole must be available for inspection or return shipment. Northern Wide Plank reserves the right to make final decisions of how to remedy, repair or replace damaged or lost shipments. If a part or whole shipment is deemed to be a loss due to damage while in transit, the amount that is deemed loss will be replaced with matching material. Northern Wide Plank will not be held responsible for any costs or penalties as a result of delays or complications arising from damaged or lost shipments.

RETURNS

Standard flooring and wall products that are in original packaging and saleable condition can be returned for a refund or credit. A 20% restocking fee will be applied to the return. Cleaning products, Oils, Soaps or custom products such as custom widths, colours, stair parts or vents are not returnable. Floor glue and plank liner that is in original packaging and saleable condition can be returned for a full refund or credit. A return authorization must be acquired prior to the product being returned in which you can contact 1-877-763-6169 or info@northernwideplank.ca. The return and refund process can take up to 15 days to complete once the product has been received at Northern Wide Plank’s facility in Schomberg, Ont. Northern Wide Plank is not responsible for return freight or shipping and will process returns FOB Schomberg, Ont. Any return must be made within 60 days from the time that it was shipped.

GENERAL

If any of these Terms and Conditions are found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of jurisdiction, then such term will be void or unenforced but will not apply to the remaining terms and conditions of which will continue in full effect. Any disputes or legal action arising out of the purchase of Northern Wide Plank products or services must be brought within one year after the delivery and will be governed by the laws of the province of Ontario and to the exclusion of the courts or legal proceedings of any other jurisdiction.

WARRANTY

As Northern Wide Plank’s products are unique in character and design, they are not sold on NWFA or other third party governing body specifications. We greatly encourage clients to visit a showroom to view large sections of products to appreciate the character, grading, finish and overall quality of the product they are purchasing. When purchasing remotely, we recommend obtaining several hand samples, familiarizing yourself with the product details and specs, and speaking with a company representative to ensure you are making an informed decision. Please obtain and review the full copy of the warranty at www.northernwideplank.ca to ensure you are familiarized with the full extent of what Northern Wide Plank’s warranty will cover and what is the responsibility of the installer and end user.

Our guarantee is simple. We guarantee that our Hardwax Oil finish will not crack, flake, peel or blister for the lifetime of the floor. It is water-repellent, dirt-resistant, and washable and is resistant even to high traffic and most liquid spills. Our oil finished floors must be maintained in order to provide adequate protection and luster, and are meant to be periodically reoiled. When properly cared for, our Hardwax Oil finished floors will last virtually forever and will never have to be sanded.
