Howdy, I hope you all have enjoyed your summer ! I know I have Achievement Days: Although everyone was wondering how Achievement Days was going to go, being in a new place, it went really well and we would like to thank Dawson Creek Exhibition Grounds. Since Achievement Days was in Dawson this year, Because we live so far off the highway, I didn’t know how our steers was going to behave, as they weren’t used to the traffic and that many people. The steers did extremely well, and I would just like to say that everyone did very well with their projects. Great job to the youngest Wonowon 4-H Club members, they did a fantastic job. Great job Sara so proud of you, this was Sara’s last year in 4-H, what a great year to end it off on. Sara got overall Showmanship, she also got first in the intermediate weight Class for conformation. Also Congratulations to Joelle and Rowdy for Grand and Reserve Champion heifers, as well as great job Rowdy with her steer. I also want to congratulate Ryder Bueckert with getting Reserve Champion steer, Great job for your first year in 4-H.

Measuring success in reg by Charissa Enns-Wilson at Creek Bank Farms The term regenerative agriculture has become increasingly common in recent years, but what does that term actually mean? The broad scope of these principles makes it difficult to define; however, there is an element of intrigue that still remains. Since 2020, and to be honest, long before that, a great deal of time has been devoted to understanding just what that term means, how to apply it and how to be sure that the methods we are using are actually delivering results in a way that helps our farm to be profitable over the long haul, while kick-starting the regeneration of our soil. We started zero-till practices nearly 20 years ago, and while that made a huge difference in water retention, our ability to seed through wet soils and less weed pressure, our 2019 harvest was exceptionally difficult. Due to excess moisture, we harvested 80% of that crop in the following year. It became apparent there was more to this jigsaw puzzle of regenerative agriculture that needed to be discovered, and in 2020, this author began studying with Dr. Elaine Ingham’s Soil Food Web School. For the past three years, we have applied compost extracts in the furrow at seeding and tracking changes on our trial strips with the intention of gaining insights on how long it might take to transition away from synthetic fertilizers and chemical inputs through building up the biological activity beneath our feet. The soil food web includes all predator-prey interactions below ground. At one time, it was thought that these microbes did not play an important role in plant growth and health, but nothing could be further from the truth. In a teaspoon of healthy topsoil, there are more microbes than there are people on this planet and over 75,000 different species of bacteria. These bacteria are hunted by microbial predators like protozoa or bacterial-feeding nematodes and the more complex this food web becomes, the more stable an environment, rich in nutrients and soil structure. In a healthy functioning system, plants produce exudates to attract and feed bacteria, who are consumed by predators and wastes are excreted in plant-available form. Fungi also play an essential role as their enzymes allow them to access minerals and nutrients that would otherwise remain unavailable. Fungi, bacteria and protozoa provide the plant with the nutrients and water that it needs and the plant’s exudates allow these essential organisms to thrive. This complex system allows for nutrient cycling, soil aggregation, weed suppression, inhibiting pests and diseases as well as carbon sequestration.

This beautiful complexity of life can now be seen clearly under a microscope and makes it all the more apparent that our choices as stewards of this incredible resource matter. By limiting disturbances such as tillage, keeping a protective armor on the soil surface, increasing diversity, maintaining a living root in the soil as long as possible and integrating animals, many producers are seeing incredible results on their operations, but it’s important to remember that this is a journey, not a quick fix. In 2022, we wanted to test out the separate and interacting effects of urea and

phosphorous fertilizer and compost extracts on a monoculture oat crop. In order to do this, we monitored and compared soil food web communities, yield, plant brix (sugar content of the sap), soil chemistry changes and anecdotally, soil structure in side-by-side, field-scale trials. In order to make the extract, we had roughly 50lbs of pure worm castings that came from our own small-scale worm farm. The worms were fed finished compost, wood chips, paper waste and kitchen scraps. We mixed this with 6000 US gallons of water and applied it at 39 US gallons per acre from our tow-behind Pattison liquid wagon through an EZ-Squeeze pump imported from Australia. This style of pump allows us to apply small amounts of liquid very precisely and uniformly across the drill runs without damaging or destroying microbes. Oats were seeded at 155lbs/acre, urea was side-banded at 150lbs/acre and a phos blend side-banded at 110lbs/ acre. We seeded side-by-side trials of urea, phos and extract, urea and phos, extract only and nothing added to the seed, to name a few.

Multiple soil samples were taken throughout the growing season to track any differences in fungal biomass (measured in micrograms/gram (ug/g) on a Soil Food Web Lab analysis), bacterial biomass (ug/g) as well as protozoa and nematode populations. Throughout the season, our extract only strips contained significantly higher fungal biomass, lower bacterial biomass and higher protozoa numbers than other strips. This is exactly the trend we were

generative practices hoping would occur, as the protozoa are consuming bacteria, releasing waste in plant-available form and the fungi not only form a symbiotic relationship with the plant, but also grow in strands that pull micro-aggregates together to form macro-aggregates in the soil, opening up pores for gas exchange, water infiltration and deeper root penetration. The following graphs show the differences in microbial populations on our trial plots. The dark green bars (control) represent plots that had nothing added to the seed, light green is our extract only strips, light purple was extract plus nitrogen and phos blend, dark purple is extract plus phos blend, dark yellow was nitrogen and phos blend, and light yellow is phos blend only. increase the sugar content of the sap on our trial strips. This is an important part of plant health, as much research suggests higher sugar content makes plants less appealing to insect pests. According to Dr. Thomas Dykstra, brix level determines digestibility for different insect groups (2022). When a plant and the soil are healthy and functioning well, a brix level of 12 is not uncommon, making the plant unable to be digested by even the peskiest of insects. Grasshoppers begin to find plants unappealing once the brix level reaches 15, which is a fairly high standard, but not unreachable (Dykstra, 2022). The graph below shows the different treatments and the corresponding brix levels, same as the previous graphs.

In addition to tracking the actual brix levels, we also put together a correlation analysis that shows the relationship between protozoa and plant brix (left graph) and a correlation analysis that shows the relationship between soil fungi and plant brix (right hand graph). As these graphs suggest, where there are more protozoa, brix also increases along the same trajectory. That correlation between increasing fungal biomass and brix is also significant, although not to the same level.

In addition to Soil Food Web Lab tests, we also monitored brix levels by testing the sugar content of the plants with a refractometer. This simple, inexpensive tool has shown time and again that our extract applications consistently

Measuring success (cont Brix levels and soil biology tests show that a single extract application can have measurable results in the same growing season, but it’s also important to note that our yields were not sufficient to be a profitable business venture at this point. 2022 was a difficult growing season for us, as we received 2.5” of rain on already saturated soils immediately after seeding, causing many, large, areas of our trial strips to drown out completely or have excessive damage, so it is very difficult to draw any conclusions from this data; making it questionable to even include in our results. It is included mainly because it is a powerful reminder that if we are going to make changes like this, it needs to be carefully considered. The profit analysis also reflects the fact that input costs of compost extracts are significantly less than traditional fertilizers, but will not return the same profit-at least for the first year, and potentially beyond. The net profit analysis includes the costs of inputs and labor vs the revenue generated from the harvest for simplicity’s sake, but does not include things like land rent, fuel or equipment costs as all those things were considered equal regardless of treatment.

Looking at these graphs, there is no question that adding nitrogen fertilizer will have an effect on yield, but another interesting finding was that at this point in our journey of transitioning, those strips with higher yields also had less compaction later in the season. This is a bit of a puzzle, since the fertilizer applications seemed to inhibit microbial activity (which can be seen on the graphs of fungal and bacterial biomass and protozoa numbers) and increased compaction early in the season, but it also boosted plant growth and helped the plants cope with the stress of and utilize excess moisture, drying the soil faster than other parts of the field. So, the relationship between plant growth, compaction, fertilizer and extract applications is a bit of an interesting conundrum. It’s important to remember that this data has been collected in the same year of one extract application. Extract applications are not meant to be a fertilizer replacement, rather, it’s meant to build the soil biology so that nutrient cycling happens at a rate that can support plant growth. That rate of nutrient cycling, however, takes time as fungal, protozoan and beneficial nematode populations need to be replenished in the soil. As we move forward and continue with these applications, it is hoped the effects will snowball.

This snowball effect needs to be measurable so that we know when the microbial population in our soil has reached a level that can support plant growth without added inputs. In order to measure this, we also sent soil samples to Future Analytics, a soil chemistry lab in Red Deer that specializes in a soil test similar to the Haney Analysis. This soil analysis method is meant to measure plant-available nutrients in the soil at that time of testing, but it also measures microbial respiration, an important metric that, according to Soil Food Web mentor, Gerald Ramirez, needs to reach a level of 200ppm on a Haney test in order to support plant growth to the degree that is required for sufficient yields. On the test strips we sent, none of our microbial respiration measurements reached higher than 93ppm, which is significantly lower than the target range. This valuable measure will certainly be taken into account and monitored as we move into the future.

Tracking results and monitoring changes to see if we are on the right track is especially important in this work. Regenerative agriculture is a broad umbrella term for many practices and has opened the door to many different products meant to boost soil health. To be sure, many of these products can help in many ways, but we can also pour huge volumes of cash into products that may or may not do what the label claims in our specific environment. Regenerative agriculture is much more than a pre-made product, it’s a mindset and a way of looking at our environment, our unique situation and paying attention to what’s working, disregarding what isn’t working and being willing to continually learn. If we don’t have a plan for how we intend to measure success, however, it’s difficult to know if our time, money and effort is working the way we hope it is. For our operation, investing time into using our waste products to make compost, feeding that to our worm farm and using pure earthworm castings for extract allows us to not only turn those materials into a valuable product, but it also assures us that we are applying local microbes that are well accustomed to the climate and growing conditions. This method takes a great deal of work in making good compost first of all, but then also managing the worm farm, making the extracts in the spring and cleaning all equipment afterward. After all this work, it’s important to know this is actually a viable method of farming that will allow us to remain profitable, but also will give us the results we are looking for. Perhaps the most exciting results from all of our research is that applying extract, regardless of fertilizer applications, tended to balance out our soil tests. The graph below looks very busy and complex, but the key take away from it is that our plant and soil traits actually differ by treatment when you combine the Soil Food Web analysis, the Haney Test results, brix levels and compaction tests.

Soil traits differing by treatment when all the information is included in a multifactorial analysis is not only exciting, but it shows there is a great deal of potential in continuing this research. The question remains of how long it will take us to transition a piece of ground into a thriving, healthy ecosystem that will produce bountiful crops without synthetic inputs. For the 2023 season, we plan to monitor microbial populations, brix, compaction and yields once again as we overlaid the same seeding plan as the previous season, which should give a good indication of how that snowball effect may take place. This year we increased the concentration of worm castings in the extract and plan to continue that trend moving forward. Our 4’ x 24’ worm bin is projected to produce a large volume of castings to allow us to make high-quality, concentrated extracts. In the future we hope to apply extracts to a larger portion of our farm land as well as incorporating cover crops, monitoring this season’s rotational grazing strips and our perennial pastures that were seeded with compost extracts in 2021. The future of regenerative agriculture looks bright and promising as we move forward, but much work is needed to understand how to apply these principles to this unique area. The 2023 harvest is quickly approaching and it’s

very exciting to soon be able to see the differences in yield from our trial plots. Looking at the crop earlier, there was a distinct color difference and less growth everywhere that did not receive a fertilizer application, but with the recent rainfall, that difference is becoming slightly less apparent. This fall is set to be a busy one with monitoring, tracking changes and testing for microbial populations as the season progresses, but if you plan to put the work into restoring microbial populations in the soil, it’s essential to know if all your hard work is paying off, a question we are eager to answer for this season. PPID, also known as Cushing’s disease, is a common endocrine disorder in older horses. It affects the pituitary gland, leading to excessive production of certain hormones, particularly ACTH. Elevated ACTH levels can cause a variety of symptoms, including: 1. Abnormal Hair Coat: Horses with PPID often exhibit a long, curly coat that fails to shed properly, especially in spring. 2. Weight Loss and Muscle Wastage: Due to metabolic disturbances, affected horses may lose weight and muscle mass, especially over their topline. It can also cause abnormal fat deposition and a “pot-bellied”

appearance. 3. Increased Thirst and Urination: Excessive thirst and excessive urination are common signs. 4. Laminitis: PPID horses are more prone to laminitis, a painful condition that can result in the coffin bone within the hoof rotating towards the ground causing varying grades of lameness. This condition is serious may need to be managed simultaneously by your farrier and veterinarian. Early detection of PPID is crucial. If you notice any of these signs, consult your veterinarian for a thorough examination. Diagnosis involves blood tests to measure ACTH levels, enabling appropriate management through medication and dietary adjustments. Treatment of PPID involves both a combination of medication, called Pergolide, dietary adjustments to reduce weight and sugar intake and regular exercise.

Equine Metabolic Disease (EMD) EMD is often caused by obesity, where excess body fat leads to insulin resistance. Horses who develop EMD are often middle aged, however certain breeds are more predisposed, such as ponies, morgans, and Arabians, however, almost any breed can develop this. Recognizable signs include: 1. Obesity: Overweight horses, especially those with fat accumulation in specific areas like the crest of the neck, are at higher risk. 2. Laminitis: Just like PPID, horses with EMD are also susceptible to laminitis, which can be recurrent and severe. 3. Abnormal Fat Deposits: Unusual fat deposits, like fatty crests in the neck and fat around the tailhead, are common indicators. Talk to your veterinarian if you are concerned about EMD in your horse. Steps to diagnosis of EMD may include performing a physical exam, running a fasting blood insulin level, or monitoring clinically through lameness scores and performing xrays of the feet.

Management of EMD primarily focuses on weight control and dietary modifications. Regular exercise and a low-sugar, low-starch diet is crucial. Monitoring blood glucose and insulin levels can aid in managing the condition effectively. Prevention and Care 1. Regular Veterinary Check-ups: Schedule routine check-ups, especially for older horses, to detect early signs of PPID and EMD. 2. Balanced Nutrition: Provide a balanced diet tailored to your horse’s specific needs, considering age, activity level, and health condition. 3. Exercise: Regular exercise not only helps maintain a healthy weight but also promotes overall well-being. 4. Dental Care: Proper dental care ensures efficient chewing and digestion, contributing to overall health. 5. Environment: Create a low-stress environment, as stress can exacerbate symptoms of both PPID and EMD. Diagnosing EMD may include measuring insulin levels in a fasting blood sample, glucose tolerance testing and/or monitoring for laminitis and clinical signs. Managing EMD includes strict dietary control with low-carbohydrate forage and limited access to lush pasture as well as weight management through exercise and dietary adjustments. Medications, such as metformin (decreases glucose in the blood) or occasionally levothyroxine will be used to increase the horse’s metabolism in horses where dietary management isn’t enough to cause weight loss. Throughout treatment and weight loss your vet may recommend monitoring insulin levels and clinical signs. In conclusion, Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction and Equine Metabolic Disease are two prevalent conditions that can affect horses. Early recognition, diet, exercise, and preventive measures are vital to ensuring your horse’s health and longevity. Horse owners should work closely with their veterinarians to develop individualized care plans for affected horses, thus providing the best possible quality of life for their equine companions.

How do I take the guesswork out of seed decisions?

Review canola performance field by field over the past couple of years. What was your yield target at seeding? What robbed yield? Many common yield robbers can be addressed with seed traits or seed treatments. Here is a fourstep process to choose the optimal cultivars: FIRST: Choose traits and seed treatments that control the most important yield robbers in that field (disease, insects, weeds, days to maturity, etc.). SECOND: Choose traits based on rotation requirements (ex. herbicide tolerance, clubroot and blackleg resistance). This is a good time for stubble testing to identify blackleg races, which helps with blackleg resistancegene choice. THIRD: Select based on yield or traits that offer a price premium. LAST: Choose traits that are nice to have (harvestability, standability, etc.)

“It is difficult to place a value on the organic matter and erosion considerations of straw,” says Neil Blue, provincial crop market analyst with the Alberta government. A 30-year study was completed at the Agriculture Canada farm at Indian Head, Saskatchewan in the Black soil zone. “This study of a wheatwheat-fallow rotation indicated that continuous removal of above-stubble straw had no effect on yield,” adds Blue, “but did reduce the soil’s ability to convert organic carbon to carbon dioxide and reduced the stability of soil aggregates, which is required for maintaining soil structure and preventing erosion.” Other studies, however, indicate that the values of organic matter and erosion prevention are more apparent in the Brown, Dark Brown and Grey-wooded soil zones. An estimated onehalf to two-thirds of the total plant material is removed from a field during baling. A significant amount of material remains as stubble, chaff and root system. “The conclusion is that straw in the ground can provide long-term

economic gain, while baled straw can provide short-term economic returns,” says Blue. Nutrient content of straw types varies widely in samples taken and climatic factors appear to be the main cause of this variation. Fertilizer costs can be used as a source for valuing some of the nutrient contents of straw, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulfur. Using fertilizer-based values for these major nutrients in straw, and baling costs of about $14/ large round bale, a 1000 lb. wheat straw bale would be worth $17.70 (in the swath) + $14 (baling cost), or about $32/bale in the field. Hauling costs approximate $5/ bale, depending on distance. Taking hauling into account, a 1000 lb. wheat straw bale, in the yard, would be worth about $37/ bale. Using comparative average nutrient values, a $37 value for a 1000 lb. wheat straw bale implies an “in the yard” value of about $39/1000 lb. barley straw bale, and about $42/1000 lb. oat or pea straw bale. Whether differences in sale value between types of straw occur is up to the market.

BYOB: Kochia in your cattle ration With independent nutrition consultant BARRY YAREMCIO Kochia (Kochia scoparia L.) is a salt tolerant annual weed that grows well in road sides, around sloughs, and in cropland. Reported yields are up to five tonnes per acre. When at the early bloom stage, nutritional value is similar to a high quality alfalfa grass hay. As the plant matures, quality declines and the accumulation of anti-nutritional compounds increase. This also occurs during periods of drought. Cattle are willing to eat kochia, but there are limitations to how much can be included in a beef ration. Feed test results have shown that sodium (salt) can be as high as 0.7% (1.8% salt) which is well above the daily requirement of 0.097% sodium (0.25% salt). When sodium requirements are met by the forage that is consumed; animals are less inclined to eat a mineral product free choice. This can result in deficiencies of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium

along with trace minerals and vitamins. Sulfur can be high especially when the kochia was harvested around sloughs that have a salt ring. These areas can be high in sulfur and magnesium. When a ration exceeds 0.4% sulfur; the occurrence of polio encephalomalacia or polio can occur. Nitrate accumulations can be high during the growing season. Testing for nitrates should be done on forages that contain kochia. There are cases where animal deaths are attributed to high nitrate levels. Saponins are a bitter substance that are present in kochia. They can reduce feed intake. When it is consumed, this molecule is broken down into glycosides. As it is digested, glycosides create foam that is stabile in the rumen, thus contributing to bloat. Oxalates are also found in kochia. Oxalate levels increase as the plant matures. This compound impairs the absorption

of calcium. It remains stable in cut hay or in silage. Additional calcium supplementation should be considered. With all these possible limitations, kochia cannot be fed as the sole ingredient in a ration or consumed on pasture. It is recommended that the kochia not exceed 25-30% of the ration on a dry matter (DM) basis. Slowly introduce kochia into the ration. Step up the amount over 4 increments to get to the required

AAI 2.0 Program Is Now Open to Receive Applications RDAR is delivering the AAI 2.0 under a Program Administrator Agreement with the Alberta Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI). Sustainable CAP is a five-year, $3.5-billion investment by Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial governments that supports Canada’s agri-food and agri-products sectors. MacAulay launches new program to support the Canadian dairy sector Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced the launch of the new Dairy Innovation and Investment Fund. With an investment of up to $333 million over the next 10 years, the Fund will help the Canadian dairy sector increase its competitiveness and adapt to new market realities. The Fund is part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to support supply-managed sectors for the impacts of the CanadaUnited States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). Like

most

dairy-producing

countries, Canada is facing a growing surplus of solids non-fat (SNF), the remaining component once cow’s milk is processed and the fat is removed for use in products like butter and cream. Limited processing capacity for SNF results in lost opportunities for dairy processors and farmers. Through the Dairy Innovation and Investment Fund, Canadian dairy processors will have access to support for medium to largescale projects that will help the sector better manage the surplus of SNF in Canada. The Fund will support activities that

help modernize, replace and/or increase processing capacity for SNF and minimize skim milk that is not marketed. The Government is also exploring how the Supply Management Processing Investment Fund can support small-scale projects to address SNF issues within the objective of the program, by focusing on competitiveness and productivity.

With today’s announcement, all compensation programming to producers and processors for lost market share under recent international trade agreements has been launched. The Government of Canada will continue to preserve, protect and defend Canada’s supply management system and is committed to not making any additional market access concessions for supplymanaged products in future trade agreements.

Lake, as well there are 3 other scenic hiking trails in the area where you can experience nature first hand. Two Lakes was named in 1952 to describe this recreation area. A recluse named Gunderson lived in a cabin near the north side of the lake, which later became Gunderson Meadows. One of the most spectacular falls of the area, Kakwa Falls is located only another 32 km south of Two Lakes. Marvel at the breathtaking view of the Rocky Mountains and the abundant wildlife at Two Lakes Provincial Recreation Area, located 138 km southwest of Grande Prairie. This recreation area boasts a choice of 2 lakes and 3 campgrounds totalling 86 campsites. The avid fisherman will enjoy reeling in Rainbow Trout or Cutthroat which are the usual catch of the day at both of these lakes. The North Lake is the smaller of Two Lakes and hosts Gunderson Meadows Campground on the east side and Pine Hollow on the west side. Only non-motorized boats are allowed on this lake and a boat launch area is located next to the day-use area. From here you can travel 3 km south to the bigger of Two Lakes. Increased sales growth for food and beverage sector: FCC Sales for Canada’s food and beverage sector are forecast to surpass $164 billion, exceeding initial projections by 3.2 per cent, according to the 2023 Food and Beverage Report: Mid-year update from Farm Credit Canada. While positive news, a number of considerations continue to weigh on the sector. Both food and beverage manufacturers saw a strong increase in nominal sales in the first half of 2023, with an increase of 8.4 per cent for food manufacturing and 7.3 per cent for beverage manufacturing. Grain and oilseed milling, and bakery and tortilla products led in growth with increases of more than 15 per cent year-over-year. However, the growth rate in the sector is more modest when accounting for inflation. “Many of our food and beverage sectors have experienced doubledigit sales growth, but much of

that growth comes from increased selling prices due to inflation,” said J.P. Gervais, FCC’s chief economist, in detailing the midyear report. “We expect slower growth in the second half of the year as consumers are careful with their grocery budgets.” A decline in consumer spending caused by inflation is putting pressure on food and beverage margins, which have been compressed since 2019. For the beverage industry, gross margins are nearly 50 per cent lower. Meanwhile, food and beverage manufacturers continue to face labour shortages and strong wage growth. “In the last two years, average weekly wages have grown by 4.6 per cent per year for food manufacturers, compared to 0.8 per cent per year between 2015 and 2019,” Gervais explained.

Canada, BC helps farmers mitigate, adapt to climate change As British Columbians continue to experience the impacts of record drought and wildfire, farmers and ranchers are receiving support so they can continue to produce food in a changing climate. “Farmers, ranchers and producers are feeling the impacts of climate change,” said Lawrence MacAulay, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food. “Investments in programs such as the Regional Extension Program will help ensure that farmers across British Columbia have the tools they need to prepare for, and mitigate the effects of, climate change on their operations. The efforts taken today will support a strong and resilient food system for Canadians for years to come.” The Regional Extension Program is supporting regional projects focusing on research, knowledge transfer and new technologies. Funded by the governments of Canada and British Columbia, the goal of the program is to ensure healthy soils and ecosystems in agricultural communities, while helping reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and prepare for, and

mitigate the impacts of, drought, wildfire, flooding and extreme temperatures. “Climate change is creating more challenges for our farmers, ranchers and food producers, and we’re seeing the impacts of these extreme weather events in our communities,” said Pam Alexis, Minister of Agriculture and Food. “We’re proactively helping producers so they can better prepare for, adapt to and mitigate the impacts of climate change. This will help them build more resilient and sustainable practices so they can better protect their farms and livestock and ensure our food supply is stable now and in the future.” The program funds activities such as, data sharing, on-farm demonstrations, workshops and webinars that highlight best practices and the latest research and technologies to support sustainable agriculture. There are 16 projects underway with more starting in the coming months. Several projects focus on helping regions prepare for and adapt

Over this time, significant data has been collected and we are looking forward to using the knowledge we have gained from these pilots. Developing a set of best management practices gives us an important tool to help manage our livestock and reduce the risk of wildfires, which is a win for everyone,” says Kevin Boon, general manager, BC Cattlemen’s Association.
