ORTHERN LIGHT SCHOOL
LETTER FROM MR. SANJEV
To Northern Light School,
As we come to the end of this school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we have been on together Becoming the Head of School for NLS has been the culmination of my 25 years as an educator in Oakland Our school community is a place like no other and the joy of learning is felt every single day on campus
I am so proud of each Northern Light student - your commitment to learning and growing has been truly inspiring, and I have no doubt that you will continue to achieve great things both at NLS and in the world.
I want to thank all the NLS faculty and staff for their unwavering support and dedication to our students. Your passion for education and commitment to our school community is truly commendable, and I am grateful for all that you do every single day
As Head of School, I'm living the dream leading NLS and I'm humbled and honored to have been called to this crucial role Thank you to the entire Northern Light School community for being a beacon of kindness and positivity in a world that is far too often cruel and unforgiving From the preschoolers to the 8th graders and all in between, there is no comparing a Northern Light School student.
Every young person who represents NLS understands that they are a part of something bigger than themselves. A special thank you to all the parents, guardians, and the FTC for supporting all that we do at school and being the most engaged families I have ever had the privilege to work with. The Northern Light way lives in each member of our community and helps make the world a brighter place
To the graduating class, as you prepare to embark on the next chapter of your lives, I want to remind you that you represent Northern Light School at all phases of your life With this being my first year at NLS, each of you will always hold a special place in my heart and memory
Thank you to everyone for making this school year one to remember. I am so grateful for this amazing community, and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish in the years to come. The Northern Light way lives in each member of our community and helps make the world a brighter place.
All The Very Best,
Mr Sanjev Head of School

LETTER TO MIDDLE SCHOOL FROM MS. MICHELLE
To my wonderful middle school students,
As you know I have been sitting at my little desk in the back of the eighthgrade classroom for almost a year now. Throughout the months, I have witnessed you grow from giggly, unsure kids into confident individuals who are now taking your education and your purpose seriously. I sit there and wonder what each of you will “become” in life, and my greatest wish is that you continue to be kind, compassionate, and loving as you journey into the future
To my incredible eighth graders tomorrow we will board the plane, fly to our nation’s capital, and follow in the footsteps of incredible human beings who changed history because of the dreams they cherished dearly dreams of equality, peace, justice, and the pursuit of happiness for all. I will cherish every moment with you, and celebrate with the knowledge that each and every one of you is destined to make your mark in history and touch the lives of others in very special and unique ways. Always hold fast to our mantra, “Impossible is Nothing”!
Know in your hearts that no matter where your journey takes you, I will always be here for you.

Class of 2024

DEAR 8TH GRADE FROM MS. CAITLIN
Dear Eighth Grade Class of 2024,
Your last days at Northern Light School are fast approaching, and as I pen this fond farewell to your class, I reflect on your last year at Northern Light School with much gratitude for each of you.
This past year we have grown together as a class community and you have accomplished a great deal, both in your studies and as independent human beings who will inherit our future, and hopefully, change it for the better in just a few short years.
As you look ahead to high school and the rest of your life, I hope that you can realize that as much as you have learned from me, I have learned from you. You have taught me to live life with zeal and enthusiasm; you have shown me that laughter is healing; you have helped me to become a more equanimous individual; you have enabled me to get more in touch with my innate sense of compassion; you have helped me understand that when the pressure is on if you set your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
When you leave Northern Light School, what I hope you remember most is the importance of being recklessly kind. Don't just be kind to the people you like, or the people you get along with, or your friends, or the company you keep; but be kind to everyone, including the people you don't get along with, your enemies, the company you don't keep, and most importantly--people you don't understand yet You have a great deal to learn from others, but the greatest thing they can learn from you is that you choose kindness in the face of adversity and uncertainty.
Come back and visit often, your classroom will always be your HOMEroom, and Northern Light School will always be your home.
Much Love,
Ms Caitlin
