Counsellors provide non-clinical mental health services for students to support their personal and academic success. Our Human Resource Management Diploma allows you to build upon the concepts you gained in our Business Administration program. You will be trained to interpret, understand, and implement labour laws, taxation laws, and human rights standards. Advanced Care Paramedic

Community Health Promotion

Our Advanced Care Paramedic Diploma program is designed to help you gain the entry-level knowledge and skills you need to practice emergency pre-hospital medical/trauma care and to function as a vital member of the health care team.

Graduates will be able to perform the competencies identified in the National Occupational Competency Profile for Advanced Care Paramedics and will write a provincial registration exam.

Community Health Promotion workers focus on health promotion and the prevention of injury, illness, disease, and disability. Foundational to their practice is the concept of applying community solutions to community challenges by identifying the needs, strengths, and resources of individuals, families, groups, and communities and by initiating support programs.

If you are a non-certified Health Care Aide seeking certification, our Employed Student Tutored Education Program is for you. This program allows employed students to gain additional work experience in the clinical setting, experience that may be eligible for practicum credits. Successful graduates earn a Government of Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate.

Are you a non-certified Health Care Aide who wishes to receive recognition for your knowledge and experience? In this Health Care Aide program, you have the opportunity to challenge five of the six courses needed to receive certification.

If the challenges are not successful, you will transfer into our Health Care Aide Employed Student Tutored Education Program (eSTEP) so that you can earn your certification.

Aboriginal Teacher Education Program

Work from your home community while you qualify for entrance into a post-secondary program! Our College and Career Preparation courses in biology, computer applications, English, and math are accessible, affordable, and convenient. These courses are intended to open the doors to many post-secondary programs.

Our Aboriginal Teacher Education Program is a collaborative degree program between Northern Lakes College (NLC) and the University of Alberta (U of A). You can earn U of A’s Bachelor of Elementary (K-6) Education Degree by studying at an NLC campus! We deliver Years 1 and 2, and U of A delivers Years 3 and 4. Why Take Dual Credit?

Dual Credit helps you save on the cost of tuition, because the fees are covered by the school division, students are required to take fewer courses when they enroll at a post-secondary institution, thereby reducing their future tuition fees.

It helps prepare high school students for a postsecondary academic environment and eases the transition from high school to college.

It lowers future workload by allowing students to complete courses that count toward earning a credential before entering a post-secondary path.

Taking a course (or courses) during high school can give students the motivational boost needed to stay in school and build confidence to continue on a postsecondary path.

Many students’ high school grades are positively impacted when they participate in Dual Credit because it highlights the importance of education as they consider their future careers.

It provides students with an opportunity to engage in hands-on experience that links learning to satisfying careers in the workplace.

The amount of time and money invested in education at the post-secondary level can be significant. Exposure to courses earlier on can assist in determining whether a specific career is the right choice for a student.
