Heartsaver CPR AED Training Training provided by CPR Professionals

CPR training is important. It can save your life, a loved-one’s life, a co-worker’s life, or even a stranger’s life. CPR training helps people learn the skills and develop the confidence to provide CPR when encountering a cardiac arrest victim. And while AEDs can be used by the public regardless of whether the responder has been trained, even minimal training improves performance, timeliness, and efficacy. This interactive, hands-on training is intended for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements. This training can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Everyone completing the training will receive a two-year certification.

Businesses typically approach HR in one of two ways. Many look at human resources responsibilities as compliance officers, a necessary evil, a have-to-do…. These businesses are looking for the safe routes, the ones that keep them out of legal trouble. They are not truly leveraging the power of their employees: their team. They are playing NOT to lose. Other businesses know that their success depends on their team. They know that whether customers return depends on the interactions with their employees. They work with their employees to drive business success, they are an employer of choice and they are able to retain their high-performing employees, even in a tight labor market. These are the businesses that are taking aim for their target. They are playing to WIN. Playing to WIN doesn’t have to be hard or take a lot of resources. It’s not about trendy perks or game rooms. It’s having employees who know what is expected of them, managers that provide direction, clarity, and coaching, and having goals and rewards aligned to drive business results – and they do exactly that.

Kristen Ireland

In our interactive, 2-part session, we will share a variety of simple and practical tools business owners and managers can put to work in organizations of any size, and discuss the important role they play in making things stick. The Minimum Levels for Sustainable Nutrition (MLSN) method is a newer philosophy that

Invasive Species/Noxious Weeds Update

Jim Calkins, Sustainable Horticultural Solutions Although jumping worms have been in Minnesota for some time, the fear that these invasive earthworms would be found in a nursery facility became a reality in 2021, and jumping worms have become the leading example of an invasive species that poses a threat to the nursery and landscape industry and native ecosystems. In addition, the continuing spread of Oriental bittersweet and Japanese hops in southeastern Minnesota, the damage caused by garlic mustard and common and glossy buckthorn as these species continue to spread across the state, the finds of Palmer amaranth in west-central and southern Minnesota, the growing threat of oak wilt, and the potential impacts of invasive insects like the brown marmorated stink bug, lily leaf beetle, spotted wing drosophila, and viburnum leaf beetle are just a few more examples of the invasive species that already pose a threat in Minnesota. Sadly, there are many other invasive species that have not yet found their way to Minnesota like boxwood blight, mountain pine beetle, spotted lanternfly,

and Asian longhorned beetle. The response to invasive species varies from doing nothing, to a wait-and-see perspective, to regulation and proactive management depending on the level of the threat and the politics of a given invasive species. Learn how plants and other organisms are assessed for possible regulation in Minnesota, gain a better understanding of how invasive species are regulated in the state, and learn how noxious weeds and other invasive species are managed in Minnesota including information about the development of a statewide, species-specific weed management plan. For example, Japanese tree lilac and honeyberry are being reviewed for potential listing as noxious weeds and burning bush/winged euonymus will soon be regulated as a Restricted Noxious Weed in Minnesota and its production and sale will no longer be allowed. While the green industry should support goals of protecting human and animal health, agricultural production, and the environment, regulation can also have negative impacts on the nursery and landscape industry; as a result, it is important for green industry professionals to understand and be engaged in the regulatory process. Join us for this Backyard Campfire session to get the latest information about the regulation and management of invasive species in Minnesota and to share your thoughts on this important topic. 12:15 PM - 12:45 PM | Lakeshore Campfire

As we lose more of our favorites due to decline and disease, those left behind are often deemed less desirable, while still being very valuable to providing canopy in our urban and community forests. During this presentation, we'll take a look at some tree preservation case studies focusing on silver maple, cottonwood, Manitoba maple (aka boxelder) and a few other less-than-favorite species!

Converting Turf to Native/ Pollinator Habitat and How to Pick Your Fights with Weeds Paul Bockenstedt, Stantec Establishing native/pollinator habitat in turf areas can be an effective approach to reducing overall maintenance costs and improving wildlife habitat. We'll talk about approaches to selecting sites, converting turf, and enhancing existing native vegetation. Specific examples of native and naturalized plant species will be discussed and the benefits they can provide. The latter part of the program will be dedicated to discussion about knowing how to pick your fights when it comes to managing nonnative, invasive vegetation - there are definitely some plants and some settings where they should be treated, but there are other instances where treatment provides limited benefit. Bockenstedt will leave plenty of time for questions about challenging native/ pollinator vegetation management situations you may be dealing with. 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM | 101 CDE

Light Effects on Turfgrass Eric Watkins, University of Minnesota Growing healthy turf in shade can be difficult because the environmental conditions are very complex, especially the changes to light. COMPANY INFORMATION Company Name: _________________________________________________________________________________

COVID-19 Safety Acknowledgement, Liability Waiver, and Release of Liability I acknowledge the contagious nature of the COVID-19 virus and that the CDC and many other public health authorities still recommend practicing social distancing and face coverings for non-vaccinated persons. I further acknowledge that while Northern Green has put in place preventative measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Northern Green cannot guarantee that participants will not become infected with COVID-19. I acknowledge that I must comply with all procedures and rules set in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19, whether those rules are implemented by Northern Green, the Minneapolis Convention Center, the City of Minneapolis, or the State of Minnesota. I understand that failure to follow rules may result in a removal from Northern Green without any refund provided. By attending Northern Green, I certify that I do not fall into any of the following categories: 1. Individuals who currently, or in the past 14 days have experienced any symptoms associated with COVID-19, which include fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, chills, or muscle pain. 2. Individuals who have traveled at any point in the past 14 days, either internationally, or to a community in the U.S. that is experiencing sustained community spread of COVID-19; or 3. Individuals who believe they may have been exposed to a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are not yet cleared as non-contagious by state or local public health authorities or the healthcare team responsible for their treatment. I agree to self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and contact Northern Green if I am diagnosed with COVID-19 within 14 days after participating in Northern Green. Liability Waiver and Release of Claims: I hereby release and agree to hold harmless Northern Green 2022, the Minneapolis Convention Center, The Minnesota Turf and Grounds Foundation, The Minnesota Nursery & Landscape Association, and the aforementioned organization’s employees, agents, boards of directors, volunteers, and representatives (collectively the “Released Parties”) from all liability, claims, and demands to the fullest extent of the law. This release includes damage or losses caused by the negligence, fault, or conduct of any kind of the Released Parties, including all illness and bodily injury up to and including death. This release extends to my heirs, assignees, designated representatives and other relatives and next of kin acting on my behalf. Assumption of Risk: I am voluntarily participating in Northern Green and acknowledge that my participation increases the risk of exposure to COVID-19. While procedures, rules, and personal discipline may reduce the potential for exposure to COVID-19, this risk cannot be eliminated. I knowingly and freely assume all such risks related to infectious diseases, including COVID-19, even if such risks arise from the actions or inactions of the Released Parties. By participating in Northern Green as a vendor, attendee, or volunteer, I confirm that I agree with all of the above.
