UNI presents ‘Green the Scene’ as part of Earth Week

This week, “Green the Scene,” an initiative sponsored by the University of Northern Iowa College of Education, highlighted ways to go green on a smaller scale. Throughout the week, a series of brown-bag lunch sessions were held that offered information for individuals and professionals on using spring cleaning time to reduce, reuse and recycle. The first session, on Monday, emphasized the importance of ergonomics

UNI alum writes book offering financial advice Staff Writer
On Monday, Adam Carroll, who graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1997, shared his financial advice and the keys to financial success featured in his book, “Winning the Money Game.” The book outlines for young people what Carroll sees as the best way to ensure financial security. According to Carroll, his path to financial success developed after he realized that he needed a plan. “It occurred to me that

Carroll continued by explaining that not only is time on a student’s side but that students also have a choice of when they want to stop borrowing for tomorrow. “If I can eat it, drink it or wear it, it doesn’t go on a credit card,” said Carroll. The members of the 2011-2012 Northern Iowa Student Government took the oath and were sworn into office Wednesday during the first meeting of the new senate in the Maucker Union University Room. University of Northern Iowa student body president emeritus Joel Anderson had one challenge for the new senators: be active. “If there is an aspect of UNI that you do not like, try to change it. Each one of you can pen a resolution that could change the lives of students,” he said during his State of the Student Body Address, which was delivered during an awards potluck held before the meeting. His call didn’t fall on deaf ears. UNI has a new computer system that allows students to register for classes, receive financial aid awards and get grade reports, degree audits and u-bills. The new system looks different, and is easy to use.
