There’s something special about the quiet reset of January. The decorations come down, the last of the holiday treats disappear, and suddenly we find ourselves holding a brand-new calendar…365 fresh opportunities staring back at us. It’s a season where motivation runs high, where the page truly feels blank, and where we all begin to dream a little bit bigger about who we can become this year.

But this January feels different for me.

Last year at this time, I wrote this note as an almost dad..excited, nervous, hopeful, and totally unaware of just how much life was about to change. Today, I’m writing it with Ember crawling around our living room, babbling to herself, and reminding me every day that time moves quickly and purposefully.

Becoming a father this year didn’t just change my schedule or my sleep. It changed the way I see the world. The dreams I chase, the priorities I protect, the goals I set...they all carry new meaning now. There’s something about

hen you meet Sonali Sikdar, there’s an instant sense of purpose — the kind that comes from someone who’s found her calling and lives it every single day. For Sonali, real estate is a way to help others build a future, the same way she’s been building hers —one dream and one home at a time.

“I am living my dream,” she says simply.

“I believe in living in the moment. I’m able to help, guide, and protect people in the biggest decision of their lives. When I see my clients smile, laugh, and enjoy the process of home buying — that’s the moment for me. That’s worth sacrificing my vacations.”

That deep commitment to her clients is rooted in her life story — one shaped by perseverance, learning, and the belief that hard work and integrity pave the way for success.

From a Small Village to Big Dreams Sonali grew up in a rural part of India, where opportunities were few but dreams were limitless. “I finished my schooling there and then moved to Mumbai for my graduation and master’s degree,” she recalls. Her path was anything but linear. Before real estate, she wore many hats — lecturer in a nursing school, bank manager, HR professional in an IT company, and even a DeVos engineer. Each role added a new skill, a new layer of understanding about people and the world around her.

Living Her Purpose But it wasn’t until an open house in 2019 that she discovered what truly called to her. “I went to an open house and thought, I would like to do this.”

Two years later, her friend, Dhara, in Denver helped her navigate how to get licensed, and another real estate agent ironically named Sonali encouraged her to take the course in person. “And my biggest cheerleader is my husband who, without even thinking for once, paid my fees for my real-estate school,” adds Sonali. That support became a cornerstone in her journey — one that continues to define her both personally and professionally.

When Sonali earned her license in 2022, she didn’t just step into a new career — she stepped into her purpose.

“The entire process excites me,” she shares. “Especially the closing and afterwards. When clients come back and say, ‘You guided us so well,’ it makes it all worth it.”

Her approach to real estate is deeply personal. She sees herself not just as an agent, but as a protector and guide through what can be one of life’s most emotional milestones. “Some people do things differently and regret it later,” she says with a laugh. “When my clients

tell me how lucky their new home has been for them — that’s the reward.”

Still, success for Sonali isn’t defined by numbers or awards. “Success to me is growing every day, little by little,” she says. “Being a better version of yourself.

Being able to sleep peacefully because you did the right thing. Building a legacy for your children and creating financial freedom for your family.”

Building a Legacy of Integrity Sonali admits that one of her biggest challenges has been overcoming the shadow cast by “bad apples” in the industry. “There are some who have lowered the standards of the profession,” she says, “but it has helped me become the best version of myself — to represent real estate with the highest ethics and professionalism.”

She’s not just selling homes; she’s elevating the profession and the people around her. This year, her goal is ambitious — helping 50 or more families find their dream homes. And while she’s still waiting for that one unforgettable career moment, she knows it’s coming.

“I’m working on creating that moment,” she says confidently.

A Life Full of Joy

“My daughters motivate me,” she says.

“I want to be able to provide for them, have savings for their college, take them on vacations, spoil them a little. I want to take my family toward financial freedom — and teach them by demonstrating in real life how to achieve it. Don’t settle for less, no matter what the world tells you.

You go and get what you want.”

She leads with compassion and conviction, showing that success isn’t just about closing deals — it’s about building something that lasts. “If you are a good human,” she recalls someone once telling her, “you will have a successful business.” It’s a simple philosophy, but one she has built her entire career upon.

On a quiet stretch just northwest of Fort Worth, where open skies meet growing communities, real estate agent Sue Laux has built a career on something she learned long before she ever sold her first home: work has value, and service has purpose.

Sue’s story begins far from Texas, in a small Michigan town, before her family moved south in 1974. Her father had purchased a 50-unit motel in Arlington— right across the street from where the Cowboys’ stadium stands today. Life at the motel was not glamorous, but it was formative. “My sister and I learned the value of work,” she says. They restocked Coke machines, washed linens, cleaned the pool, and, once old enough, filled in at the front desk. It was there— among guests, towels, and daily responsibilities—that Sue started to understand what it meant to show up with purpose.

Even in high school, she gravitated toward roles where effort mattered. Her favorite job was selling programs at Rangers games.

“It was commission-based, and I was always one of the hardest workers and top sellers,” she remembers. “I loved being compensated for effort.” That attitude followed her through two years at SMU, then UT Arlington, where she earned her BBA and adopted a personal motto that carried her into adulthood: “Lord, help me to be the best I can in everything I do.”

Before real estate, Sue built a varied career— sales roles with haircare

products and Dale Carnegie courses, years of school volunteering, and more than a decade developing the Youth for Life program for the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth. She created events, educated teens, and led groups to the March for Life in Washington, D.C. each year. Those experiences sharpened her communication skills, but more importantly, they deepened her commitment to service.

Over her ten-year career, Sue has built a reputation for care, consistency, and integrity. “I love the joy in my buyers when they find the perfect house,” she says. Sellers feel that same energy when they see their homes beautifully staged and quickly under contract. But Sue’s journey took an unexpected and meaningful turn when she and her husband, Frank, began exploring investment opportunities. They spent years flipping homes, building starter homes, and studying what families truly needed. As big-builder competition tightened,

they shifted focus—and found the solution in a place most buyers overlook: manufactured homes.

“The quality and style of manufactured homes has come a long way in recent years,” Sue explains. “New homes are ENERGY STAR efficient and are attached to a slab that makes them acceptable for FHA and VA loans. They no longer blow away with tornados.”

This realization changed everything. Frank became a licensed manufactured home dealer, and together, they began developing affordable manufactured home communities designed for dignity, safety, and longterm stability.

“I can’t remember not being interested in real estate,” Sue says. As a child, she studied every phase of construction in her neighborhood. She and her mother visited Parade of Homes tours, and she collected home magazines from every convenience store they passed. So once her children were grown, she finally stepped into the career she had dreamed of for decades.

The moment she earned her license is one she’ll never forget. “Someone asked what I ‘did,’ andI was so giddy with pride I could hardly say the words: ‘I am a REALTOR®!’” In her first six months, she poured herself into open houses and community connections.

And beyond the structure itself, the communities often provide something priceless: a sense of belonging. “A nice manufactured home community can provide a wonderful lifestyle for people.

“This mission has become deeply personal for Sue and Frank. “Success to my husband and me is our two missions,” Sue shares. “First, to offer adults 62 and up safe, affordable, and engaging communities designed for active, fulfilling living.

Second, to offer families safe, affordable neighborhoods where they can thrive, grow, and feel truly at home.” Eventually, they hope to create a nonprofit community for young adults with special needs—another meaningful chapter they plan to build.

Sue’s achievements reflect that commitment. She has capped every year since her second year in real estate, earned EXP ICON status in 2023 and 2025, and reached Real Producers recognition in 2024. In 2025 alone, she closed $9.45 million, bringing her career volume to roughly $40 million.

Her proudest lessons, however, come from moments of grit. She still recalls a tense negotiation

early in her career when her mentor taught her to walk away if necessary. “It was very hard—I wanted it so badly,” she says. When she sent the termination form just minutes before the option period ended, the sellers called back within fifteen minutes and accepted the repair request.

“It made me a much stronger negotiator,” she says. It also showed her the power of standing firm for her clients.

Faith remains the foundation of Sue’s life. “My first niche has been my Catholic faith,” she shares. Many of her clients come through church connections, and her closing gift for Catholic clients—a cement Virgin Mary statue— has become a meaningful trademark. When asked what she hopes to be remembered for, Sue’s answer is simple and sincere: “I want people to love Jesus more because they knew me. And I want people to be relieved of some of their financial burdens through a simpler life in a caring community.

“For new agents, she offers the advice that shaped her: “Lean into your passion and make it your niche,” she says.

Time-blocking, consistency, and a grounded perspective have carried her far—just like the words shared by a friend long ago: “There are seven million people in the Metroplex. I don’t need all of them, just about 30 per year.”

When you meet Cody Fennell, you quickly realize that behind his confident, entrepreneurial energy is a heart rooted in authenticity and service. At just six years into his career, Cody—Broker Associate at Post Oak Realty and owner of the Fennell Property Group—has already built a name for himself in North Fort Worth as a young but deeply experienced real estate professional who puts his clients first, always.

“I’ve always believed in being relational over transactional,” Cody says.

“If you take care of the people you serve, they’ll take care of you.” It’s not just a business motto—it’s the guiding principle of his life.

From Small-Town Roots to Big Real Estate Dreams Cody’s story begins in Whitesboro, Texas, a small town where hard work and family values weren’t just talked about—they were lived every day. “My parents and grandparents all had full-time jobs, but they each had entrepreneurial side jobs, too,” Cody recalls.

“Cattle, a landscaping business, a convenience store, and real estate. They did everything themselves, and when something needed fixing or painting, my brother and I were right there helping.”

That kind of upbringing instilled more than just a strong work ethic. It planted the seeds of entrepreneurship and self-reliance. “After being immersed in that environment our entire lives, my brother and I were naturally inspired to pursue our own businesses.

I was always drawn to real estate. I didn’t yet know in what capacity, but I knew it would play a meaningful role in my future.”

The Spark That Started It All That future began to take shape during Cody’s time at the University of North Texas in Denton. When his parents decided to purchase a home for Cody and his brother to live in during college, they were connected to a local real estate agent who would

unknowingly change Cody’s life.

“She made the experience amazing,” he recalls. “I stayed in touch with her while I was still in school, and she eventually let me shadow

her on a few appointments.”

What started as curiosity turned into a calling when Cody was offered an internship at her office.

Those early years weren’t easy. “I was a young, inexperienced kid diving deep into the professional world while working as a server to make ends meet,” Cody admits. “It wasn’t glamorous, but it was foundational.” Over two and a half years, he went from unpaid intern to inside sales associate for a top-producing team—and by his last semester of college, he had earned his real estate license and launched his business.

Lessons, Growth, and That First Referral Like many in real estate, Cody’s early days were filled with both excitement and uncertainty. He vividly remembers his first listing—a property his parents had flipped—and the inspiration he felt as he navigated that process. “I’d study contracts late into the night in my little home office,” he says. “I wanted to be good at this. I wanted people to trust me.”

But one particular moment stands out above the rest.

“The day I got my first referral from a past client, everything changed,” he shares. “That’s when I felt like all the work I had done to be valuable and professional was paying off. It was the first time I thought, ‘Okay, this might just work out.’ “ Cody’s business has remained 100% referral-based ever since—proof that his clientfirst approach works.

It was the pressure I put on myself to always be growing, always achieving.”

But real estate hasn’t always been easy. In 2023, Cody faced a challenging year in business and even considered walking away.

“It wasn’t about the money,” he explains. “It was the pressure I put on myself to always be growing, always achieving.” With a newborn at home and the weight of new responsibilities, Cody found himself struggling— until a mentor offered him perspective.

“Early on, I defined success by dollar amount—how much I sold, how much I made,” he admits. “Now, it’s about impact. It’s about the families I serve and the goals they have set. For me, it’s an adrenaline rush to help a client achieve this milestone.”

“He told me, ‘Maybe God knew you needed to slow down this year so you could focus on your wife and daughter,’” Cody recalls.

“It hit me hard. I realized I wasn’t in control—God was.

The next year, I sold more than I ever had, but with more faith than I’d ever had, too.”

A Legacy of Leadership Today, Cody is intentional about the kind of impact he wants to leave behind—not just on his clients, but on the industry as a whole. “I want to be remembered as a selfless agent who prioritized his clients and mentored other agents along the way,” he says. “A strong leader, a man of faith, and a trailblazer.”

When Bret and Molly Chance stepped into real estate over two decades ago, they weren’t chasing a career—they were creating a life of freedom. “We wanted to create a life that gave us freedom of time, finances, and choices—and to help others do the same,” they shared. That conviction has guided them ever since, shaping not only their business but the foundation of their life together.

Before real estate, their lives were defined by service and structure. Bret worked as a firefighter and paramedic, and Molly thrived as a commercial interior designer. Both professions demanded precision, long hours, and calm under pressure. But everything changed shortly after their marriage in 2000, when Molly faced a lifethreatening illness. It was a defining moment that forced them to reexamine their priorities. “That experience changed our entire view of life and priorities,” Molly said. “It made us realize that trading hours for income wasn’t the only way to live.”

years, the couple learned that success isn’t about fitting into someone else’s mold. “For a long time, we thought we had to be extremely extroverted or operate like everyone else,” Molly shared.

“But when we leaned into who we are and how God designed us, everything began to flow more naturally.”

may not be popular or it may cost us something,” Bret said. “That’s been a guiding principle for us both personally and professionally.”

That conviction was tested when they made one of the boldest moves of their careers: leaving a large national brokerage to start their own. “It wasn’t what we had planned,” Molly recalled.

“But when their values no longer aligned with ours, we knew we had to take a stand.” What followed was a step of faith that led to the creation of Texas Home Life Realty—a boutique brokerage built entirely on their values. “It was

They were new parents navigating an industry that doesn’t sleep. “Real estate isn’t a profession with regular business hours,” they laughed. “The phone doesn’t stop ringing just because the workday ends.” But instead of burning out, they built systems—strategic processes that protected their family time while creating a calmer, more reliable experience for clients. “Those systems became essential—not just for success, but for sustainability.”

a big and scary risk,” Bret admitted, “but we both instantly knew it was something we couldn’t compromise.”

Looking back, they’re certain it was divine direction. “God’s hand was on every step of that transition. And it’s been so rewarding.”

The couple is preparing to release their book, Established: 12 Biblical Steps for Christian Entrepreneurs to Build with Success, Peace, and Purpose. It’s the culmination of years of wisdom, experience, and faith in action. “We believe God called us to help other business owners run their businesses in a way that points people to Him— not through preaching, but through excellence,” they said. “When we meet people’s practical needs and solve their problems with integrity, they experience something different from the norm.”
