Celebrating Our
publisher’s note
FATHERS! He sure loved to get a rise out of everyone. I’ve lost count on how many times, between the three of us, my Dad has said, “I think I am having an aneurysm,” as he rubs his temples. Haha! We know he is being somewhat facetious. “Father’ is the noblest title a man can be given. It is more than a biological role. It signifies a patriarch, a leader, an exemplar, a confidant, a teacher, a hero, a friend.” –Robert L Backman
Jordan’s Dad, Brian, and Niece Hailey
Being that June 21st is Father’s Day, we decided that this issue of North DFW Real Producers is dedicated to…you guessed it! Our fathers. Being a father has to be tough. I, personally, wouldn’t know from experience…other than the fact that I am a papa to my two-year-old cat, Mia. Somehow though, I feel that isn’t quite the same as being a father of humans. One day I hope to know the difference. My father raised three boys and was a well-respected leader at his place of employment, Arctic Cat. He worked there for 37 years before he retired. Still, he would make it to almost all of our sporting events, and all three of us boys also raced snowmobiles. This took an enormous amount of time, effort, and money. It is a lot to do and manage. Especially if you knew my older brother, Jason!
12 • June 2020
In this issue, we have three agents featured, who are all incredible at their job, but more importantly, they are amazing fathers. On the Cover, we have Brad McKissack with his two sons, Brad Jr. and Chase, both who are now fathers of their own. We have our Rising Star, Landon Hale, who not only just started his own brokerage, but also started a family. We also have our Celebrating Leaders feature on one of the most loved humans in DFW, Ben Baker, a father who tragically lost one of his two sons a few years ago. Without a doubt, the impact of a father is insurmountable. Father’s shape every aspect of who we are. This issue is for them.

rising star Written By: Missy Kremer Photography By: Ilona Jade Photography
An Object in Motion Stays in Motion Newton’s Law highlights that an object in motion will stay in motion. And, as this month’s rising star, this is directly applicable to Landon Hale, owner of Post Oak Realty out of Denton, Texas. From humble beginnings to doubling his business in the last year, Landon does not show any signs of stopping anytime soon. While some may take a path, hit a roadblock, and get deterred, Hale approaches those roadblocks, picks them up, and calculatingly moves them out of the way. Growing up modestly in Collinsville, TX, Landon was put in a unique position by his parents. They modeled what it meant to be relational, active, loving, and consistent…traits Hale claims make a well-rounded real estate agent. “They shaped who I am today and how I feel, and care, about people.” Starting his college career at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX, set him out on a business management path, landing him at a small finance company. His next stop was a small credit union, and as the pace began to slow, Landon craved more. In 2013, Hale claims he got into real estate through prayer. He didn’t really know what was next but trusted that God knew best, so into real estate he went. With approximately 60,000 licensed real estate agents in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Landon Hale
realproducersmag.com
knew he needed to hit the ground running. “It was kind of tough in the beginning,” shrugs Hale. “I’m struggling to grow facial hair now, and I’m 30, so you can imagine at 24, and 20 pounds ago, I looked and played the part of someone new,” he chuckles. Continually taking strides and fostering grit, “I came over that hump of a new and limited agent.” But, this came with some mindset shifts. “You need to be able to take ‘no,’ let it roll off your back, and move forward. I can take ‘no’ for an answer, but it’s not going to set me back—I’m going to keep on with what I’ve set out to do that day.” In addition, there are several attributes that Landon claims make him successful. “I’m an exceptional communicator and amazing at building relationships—I don’t mean that boastfully. If I don’t claim that, and recognize and know that’s who I am at my core, I do everyone around me a disservice.” Staying true to his 0-100 mph speed, Hale became intrigued with opening his own brokerage after meeting with a friend who had done so, conferring with a business coach, and removing some other business distractions that just weren’t going to come to fruition seamlessly. And, he hasn’t looked back. “Forget it. I’m going to go for it!” And so, Post Oak Realty was born. With 11 agents currently, Landon states, “I wanted to fill a gap in the marketplace in regards to the way agents are taken care of, valued, and rewarded.”
North DFW Real Producers • 19
There are several reasons brokerages exist in the DFW area, but Hale wanted to be set apart from the others. He offers multiple compensation plans, which attracts many types of real estate agents to Post Oak Realty. “I want my agents and employees to feel valued, and rewarded, and not want to leave,” Hale reflects. After analyzing several models, he created the multiple-lane approach to keep agents happy, growing, and keeping more money. “If you don’t know what your brokerage is doing to earn your business, then I simply want to talk with you.” 20 • June 2020
As his advice for those wanting to get into the real estate business: “If you say ‘I don’t know what to do. I don’t know where to get started.’ Great. I can help you.” Television shows, and the large presence and impact of social media, can make real estate look easy, fun, and idealistic. However, “There’s a lot of really crappy stuff that happens. Be prepared. Come in with the expectation to have to work harder than anything else in the world. It is a lot of hours and a lot of wondering ‘Did I do it right? Will I close? What did they think @realproducers
“ ”

about me whenever I left?’ There’s a ton of uncertainty. Which is one of the reasons I started a brokerage: to bring certainty to the uncertainty,” states Hale. “Come in with the expectation you can, and will be, let down. You will work really hard, but remember that it’s not about the amount realproducersmag.com

of times you get knocked down but how many times you get up…give it a little bit of time, and it will absolutely turn around!” Ultimately, Hale has trudged through the intricacies of real estate and feels very fortunate to be where he is today. “It’s very fulfilling to help people make one of the biggest purchases of their life. It’s exciting all the way around. I believe in excellent customer service, so being able to deliver that, and help someone accomplish a dream or goal…it’s just really, really exciting and very rewarding!” While Covid-19 has put a damper on the real estate business’ ability to meet face-to-face, chopping out six speaking opportunities he had lined up that could

have potentially grown his business, he calmly states, “I want to grow, but one person can only do so much. No excuses, though. I own that.” Outside of real estate, Landon claims to be pretty bland, but his repertoire of skills and hobbies would say otherwise. As highlighted, being active is one of Landon’s priorities each day. He even stands at his desk at work. “I love to be on the go. I find a reason to go and be active, whether it be walking on government land near where I hunt, or at the state park with my wife and daughter. I love to play golf. Anything to remain in motion! I’m constantly doing something.”
A fact that isn’t well-known about Hale is his love for archery. He competes from January to June, preps for the hunting season in the summer, and actively hunts each fall. But, his number one in life is family…and being a dad. Landon attributes his ability to be a present father and husband to the love his mother and father modeled for him. With wife, Amber, and baby girl, Kate, who is about 21 months, he gives his life. He shares all accolades for his success and production to his wife: “Amber is an incredible mother. Incredible wife!”

WILLOW BEND LOCAL LEADERS 26 • June 2020
@realproducers
When it comes to finding a partner to work with in this industry, you don’t have to look very far to find large, national chains eager to work with you and your clients. realproducersmag.com
North DFW Real Producers • 27
There’s nothing wrong with that. But there’s something special when you can combine the best of both worlds — the strength and capabilities of a full-service organization, combined with around-the-corner expertise with people who know the streets where you and your clients work and live. That’s where Willow Bend Mortgage comes into play to give you an advantage as true local leaders. Joining Forces
Two men who are the faces of that local difference with Willow Bend Mortgage are Dan Carson, who serves as Senior Vice President and Senior Mortgage Loan Originator, and Chad Stansell, Residential Mortgage Loan Originator. As Dan says, it’s no accident that he and Chad are teamed up. “I joined the organization in 2017, and one of the first things I knew I needed was a partner … somebody I could trust, and that could do a great job of leading others, so Chad joined me,” Dan recalls. “I was involved with running sales for the company and kind of supporting most of the sales staff. And Chad was building a great team here locally. We did that up until the end of 2019. Then, recently, we decided to partner up and run a production group together, and that’s been something that has been great for us, and it has been a pretty unique experience for our team.” As Chad says, “It’s rewarding being part of the company’s strong forward momentum.” “It’s been fun to be one of the fastest-growing companies in North Texas in terms of market share. Willow Bend Mortgage is a privately owned mortgage company started right here in North Texas 26 years ago. So, we really consider ourselves to be the home team,” Chad says. Willow Bend Mortgage takes pride in offering the elements of a larger company, plus the outstanding service of a boutique organization.
28 • June 2020
@realproducers
“We’re definitely one of the most competitively priced organizations. You get the mix of great things you would see at a large company, but you get the local service. That, mixed with the unique programs and pricing that we have, give us a big competitive advantage,” Chad emphasizes. “I think people appreciate that they’re not talking to somebody from a call center in L.A. or another market. They’re dealing with guys who know the local market.”
“
Through the process and the experience, we strive to create great experiences, so that our partners get more referrals from their clients.
Tangible Differences
”
As Dan says, “The difference for clients is real.” “We have the luxury of giving a really great price to the consumer because we don’t have a private equity firm and we’re not publicly traded. So, we don’t have to send someone else the profits,” he explains. “So, we can be lean and deliver that quality product at a great price. It’s a beautiful thing.” Chad says the Willow Bend Mortgage team appreciates their role in sharing the American dream.

North DFW Real Producers • 29
“There’s a freedom that can be obtained through owning real estate — financial freedom. Americans want to have a sense of freedom and independence, and we help people achieve that through owning real estate,” he emphasizes. “Bringing that passion dayin-and-day-out and doing the little things: making the phone calls, following up with people, staying in touch, and treating people really well.” The organization has built a reputation for outstanding teamwork that creates lasting results. And that spirit begins with Dan and Chad and the connections they, and their families, share. “Our two oldest children are in second grade. They play sports together. So, obviously there are builtin livelihoods,” Dan points out. “Our wives are very close friends, too. So, we see each other. It’s not

just at the office. Our families travel and spend a lot of time together.”
Quality Over Quantity
“Everybody’s got multiple people that they work with, and refer, to make sure that you’re helping the family you’re working with get to the right lender,” Dan explains. “We’re all partners, because we can help build our REALTOR® partners’ referral network. Through the process and the experience, we strive to create great experiences, so that our partners get more referrals from their clients. We help people reach their goals. And that goes for people who work with us, for our agents, for our partners, and for each other.”

Chad agrees. “We have a lot of fun. It’s really about spending quality time with those we care about. When you have kids, you get 18 years with them. That’s all you get. So, you make the most of that time, and cherish those around you,” he emphasizes.

“He is my hero. He taught me that your word means everything, and you better not mess that up!”
“While I’ve always been so proud of all of my dad’s accomplishments, one of the things I love the most about him is his ability to give me advice without telling me what to do. Let me explain. The decision is always mine, but he makes me consider things I wouldn’t have considered on my own. He doesn’t want to influence my decision but help guide me to make the best one for me. He’s been like that since I can remember, which I think is rare when you are a very young adult. I love him and don’t know what I’d do without him!”

“My dad taught me how to wash a car, he always made sure we were in church every Sunday, and he is the reason I have such a strong work ethic and drive for life. He was a runner back in the day, and now I run marathons. He is the most hard-headed man I’ve ever met. He is set in his ways, and that can’t be changed at the age of 75. We both love movies and spending time at the beach. I love you, Daddy!” KELLI KOCHER, KELLER WILLIAMS 34 • June 2020

“The thing I love most about my dad is that he’ll go to any lengths necessary to provide for, and protect, his family. He had a rough childhood, losing both of his parents at an early age. Everything he has today has been a result of him demanding what he wants out of life. Because of his hard work and refusing to ever take ‘no’ for an answer, he’s been able to provide so much for my mom and me. He’s passing that down as he teaches me things like how to run my business, buy my first home at 25, etc. I’m so thankful God gave me a daddy like him.”
“My father has been fighting a battle for the last three years and has outlived the doctor’s predictions. But in all this, he has been an inspiration to my younger children that don’t understand death and it’s scary to them. His love for Jesus, and his hope for his future home, has made this much easier on their hearts. He loves unselfishly and cares for other’s needs above his own, even more in a time in his life that most people would be fighting for their own needs and life.” JUSTIN PHILLIPS, PHILLIPS REALTY GROUP

Ben Baker
celebrating leaders Written By: Dave Danielson Photography by: Artistry and Light
Winning Drive
There was no doubt about it. When Ben Baker stepped onto the football field for Plano East High School, he had what it took to help his team win as the school’s first quarterback. Baylor University agreed. In fact, after Ben’s storied high school career, he went on to play for the Bears throughout his collegiate career. Those accolades and achievements on the gridiron were just the beginning of Ben’s story of success. Because when his football days were done, his lifelong winning drive had just begun. “When I attended Baylor, I was a pre-med, physical therapy major,” he recalls. “But it was difficult when you’ve got a 50-hour-a-week commitment to football. But at the same time, I really wasn’t passionate about physical therapy. So at the end of the day, I made the right decision to change my major and go the business route with real estate, and the rest is history. And 30-plus years later, here I am. I feel very fortunate.” Others around Ben share that feeling, as well, including his clients and team members. Center of Action
During his playing days, Ben was in the center of the action. And the spotlight often fell on him. The brighter the lights, and the bigger the stage, the more he shined. In fact, his performance during his high school days placed him among the Plano East Panther Hall of Fame. “When you play quarterback, folks will heap that responsibility on you. When you’re the quarterback, you’re suprealproducersmag.com
posed to be the leader,” Ben recalls. “Some folks shy away from that, but I didn’t. I had grown up with my friends on the team, and I loved being in that position.” As he started his career, Ben encountered the tough transition into the business — the grinding gauntlet that most agents come up against. “If this was the turtle and the hare race, I was definitely the turtle,” he laughs. “I was in this business for nine months before I sold my first property. But I was fortunate that I didn’t have a house, a family, or other commitments. I was able to slowly but surely get my sea legs in this business.” There was trial and error. There were ups and downs. But all the way, just like a new player on the varsity team, there was learning — and growth that came from it. “For me, real estate was all about building a solid foundation. I wasn’t in a position where I had to sell a property. I think clients can smell commission breath all day long when they know that you’re not genuine and that you’re purely looking out for you, because you need that paycheck,” Ben points out. “I was fortunate that that was never the case.” Unlocking New Answers
As Ben looks back on his real estate career, he had an a-ha moment about 28 years ago. “That’s when I stumbled on the secret for my success. Sometimes, you’re constantly reaching, trying to reach people who don’t know you, don’t trust you, don’t know your heart, and don’t know your intent. And you’re trying to convince those people that you’re worthy of their trust,” Ben explains. North DFW Real Producers • 39
Ben was born and raised in Plano. During his five-year high school class reunion, he ran into several friends. They were in established relationships, moving toward marriage, and looking ahead to the next steps in life — including getting a house. “They needed someone they could trust, and they reached out to me. And during that year again, I ended up working with three or four of my classmates to help them buy their first homes,” he recalls. “The light bulb went off at that point … I knew that I’d much rather spend my time with people who already know you … they know your heart; they know your intent. They know you’re a man of integrity. Better to work with those folks than trying to convince someone that I’m a good guy, and I’m looking out for your best interest. And that’s where it started.” At that point, like a veteran quarterback seeing all of the openings in the defense, the real estate game seemed to slow down. He saw an opening that made sense … one that would help his clients win.
“That’s been the foundation of my business. It started with those three or four people from Plano East, and then it grew and grew,” he says. “Then it grew into the neighborhood that I lived in Carrollton, and then I moved from Carrollton to far North Dallas. And then it grew from there. Today, I’m a neighborhood specialist here in my subdivision. So, I think there’s the secret of my success. I feel like I’ve treated folks right, worked hard to gain their trust, and I’m honored when they rely on me as their advocate. And that’s truly what I am.” Loves of Life
Away from work, Ben cherishes time spent with his family. His wife, Allison, he met at Baylor. Their son, Ben III, was a double major at Baylor University in international business and Spanish, with hopes to take over his dad’s real estate business someday. Sadly, though, the family had to endure the loss of Ben III who passed away a few years ago. While they lost their oldest son, they feel blessed to have time with their youngest son, Alexander, who’s a sophomore at the University of Arkansas. In their free time, the Baker family enjoys exercising together. In fact, during the Covid-19 quarantine, Ben even created a home workout regimen that his family got involved in, too. Ben also is a big fan of jazz music. He sometimes even plans special business and social events around music venues. That love of people extends to an ongoing Mastermind call that Ben has been conducting with real estate professionals for years with people from all over the nation. “I love being a leader. And it’s carried into real estate. I pride myself on helping and supporting everyone, regardless of whether you’re with my company or not,” he emphasizes. “I think if you’re in the real estate business, you’re part of my real estate family. We’re all in this together.” Giving of His Gifts
Ben’s abilities as a performer and coach are equally rewarding for him. “If there’s something I can do to help you, I’m willing to do it, and I hope that you’d help me if I really needed it. I love being a mentor. I have a coach myself. I think if you’re a top producer or real estate professional, chances are you do have a coach,” he says. “Tiger Woods of all people has multiple coaches. So, I think that it’s money well spent to help keep me focused on what’s important and moving in the right direction in serving my clients to the best of my ability.”

I believe that I rise by lifting others. It really gives me joy when I see agents succeeding,” Ben says with a smile. “As long as I continue to provide great service and always put the client first, there’s no reason that we can’t continue to grow and serve people. I just appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given to impact and change lives.” With heart, drive, and a hunger to grow, Ben Baker shows what it means to succeed … with his strong, undeniable winning drive within.

CCAR: in the know
Written By: Bri Westbury, Collin County Association of REALTORS® Content Specialist
Let’s All Look Out for
Grandma ROBERTA The process of filing an ethics complaint may look intimidating, but that should not deter you from taking action if you see the REALTOR® Code of Ethics violated. “I have heard, and agree, that there are not enough complaints filed,” said David Long, 2020 Collin County Association of REALTORS® (CCAR) President and member of Texas REALTORS’® Professional Standards Committee. “With the exception of a local, state, or federal law violation, we are a self-policing industry. The Code of Ethics relies on members of our industry holding each other account46 • June 2020
able to abide by the REALTOR® Code of Ethics.”
Following the Code benefits our industry, reputation, clients, and those we love. The Code of Ethics prevents Grandma Roberta from buying a condominium with undisclosed defects or your brother with disabilities from receiving subpar representation. The enforcement of the Code of Ethics allows us all to be proud to say, “I am a REALTOR®.” The most commonly broken Article of the Code of Ethics can be subtle,
and at times, mindlessly broken, which is Article 12. Although its violation may occur without malice, failure to adhere to the article can have devastating effects to the industry, clients, and dear Grandma Roberta. Article 12 demands “…truth in advertising, marketing, and all other representations…” and was updated May 15, 2018. In preparation for updated Article 12, the National Association of REALTORS® published a breakdown of what qualifies as an “Ad” and the content that is required to be included in them. The information may surprise you: What’s considered an ad? It’s any form of communication by, or on behalf of, a license holder designed to attract the public to use real estate brokerage services. This includes publications, brochures, radio or television broadcasts, business stationery, business cards, displays, signs, billboards, and all electronic media—email, text messages, social media, and websites. The only exception to the advertising rules is communication between a license holder and his or her current client. @realproducers
What do my ads have to say? All license holders’ advertisements must include the license holder’s name or team name. Ads also must include the broker’s name in at least half the size of the largest contact information for any sales agent, associated broker, or team name contained in the advertisement. The broker’s name can be the name on the broker’s TREC license, an alternate name registered with TREC (if the broker is an individual), or an assumed business name registered with TREC. Contact information can be anything used to contact a license holder, such as the license holder’s name or phone number [1]. Did you notice “…any form of communication…designed to attract the public to use real estate brokerage services,” includes your social media posts? It is imperative your social media account has the required identifying content of an ad easily found on your account profile or linked webpage. When all REALTORS® take
care to abide by Article 12 on all ads, including social media, consumers and agents can quickly determine with whom they are dealing with and the professional standards to which they adhere. Providing a clear and true picture of who is listing a home, promoting a website, offering inspection services, or on the other end of an email communication is the professional standard expected of REALTORS®.
He is quick to remind, “Since the complaint is provided anonymously, it is imperative all relevant information is collected and provided at one time, since there is no way to contact the plaintiff to request more information about the violation [2].”
Other commonly broken articles of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics are Articles 3, 4, 5, 6, 14, and 16. It is worth your time to review these articles to make sure your business practices, as well as those around you, uphold the standards set forth by the REALTOR® Code of Ethics.
Let’s all do our best to follow and enforce adherence to the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. Doing so ensures we are outstanding professionals who display integrity in all our dealings, whether it is with our clients, other REALTORS®, the community, or Grandma Roberta.
Worried about retribution or a damaged professional relationship if you report a violation? Long encourages you to: “Collect all the information, fill out an anonymous complaint form, then send it in anonymously.”
Once a complaint is received by Texas REALTORS®, anonymously or otherwise, the Professional Standards review process begins. To simplify the Professional Standards Process, Texas REALTORS® has created a flow chart depicting the process [3].

HIGH PERFORMANCE RESTORATION
Innovation and Service Under One Roof As you know, roofs and windows are more than decorative elements for your clients’ homes. They form that invaluable frontline of protection that shelters clients’ lives and possessions from the full range of threatening elements. High Performance Restoration brings a high-tech + high-touch blend of experience and expertise to their work with families throughout the area. A Partnership that Works in All Ways
The company is headed by Brad and Heidi Black, whose 20-year partnership in all areas of life has been truly rewarding. Both entrepreneurs at heart, Brad started selling windows after graduating from college in 2005, while Heidi worked as a licensed Real Estate Broker in Oregon. As partners in life and work, Brad and Heidi moved to the North Dallas area seven years ago from the Pacific Northwest. It didn’t take long for them to put their dreams of helping others into action.
realproducersmag.com
“I’ve been in the Home Improvement space for fifteen years,” Brad explains. “Heidi and I always wanted to work together in a business. While there are plenty of ‘one-man team’ roofing companies around the area, we saw an opportunity to establish something different and better for homeowners in North Texas. So, that is really when we decided to start High Performance Restoration together, going on five years ago.”
North DFW Real Producers • 51
As Heidi says, “We wanted to create not only a good roofing and window replacement company, but also a home performance optimization company. We bring numerous services and technologies together, to work for our clients.” Unique Vision
They had a unique vision for High Performance Restoration from the start. As Brad explains, “We started with a set of core values and really wanted to develop a professional organization that helps transform lives. And so, for our team, when people work for us, they’re coming into a culture and a community of people that are going to help them grow and develop as people in a true team atmosphere.” That mindset extends to the full-service approach to find solutions for clients. “When we inspect a property, we’re not just looking for storm damage. We’re inspecting the property for any type of damage, whether it’s normal wear and tear, improper installation, or components that could be upgraded, improved, or optimized…from attic ventilation to windows. And we have a quality team to back it up.” Organized for Success
Brad and Heidi continue taking steps to refine and optimize their organization’s brand of teamwork.
“This technology also offers an outstanding way to show the ‘Before and After’ in advance to clients who want to do a whole-house exterior transformation – that, our team, can then bring to life,” Heidi explains. “We can show them a 3D model of the new roof if they’re looking to replace the roof only – or – for clients looking to achieve a complete transformation of the home exterior, we can share that whole house 3D model, as well.” It’s a powerful tool to help clients envision their home’s future. “We share a link to the virtual 3D model with each client. They can keep it and play with it, to swap out windows, change the home exterior colors, or change the roof, and more,” Heidi points out. “And it’s very specific. Clients get to see what specific roofing materials, from various manufacturers, will actually look like on their home – with the exact colors to provide a true view and not just a general idea.” High Performance Restoration has also created a custom app they use to send a unique referral link to clients. When clients share the company’s services, they earn rewards and are paid out through the app. As Heidi emphasizes, “We’re always looking to empower our customers, and our team, to do things a cut above.” A Life of Abundance
“It’s a team effort. One person in our office, Polly, is focused on customer service and making sure everything’s going smoothly,” Brad says. “Mack’s time is split between the office and the field, managing relationships with subcontractors and installers, and the production and material orders. Another team member in the field, Seth, oversees installs, manages expectations and interfaces with clients onsite. We’ve found this approach works much better than having one person trying to do it all.” Harnessing Exceptional Capabilities
As technology evolves, Brad and Heidi have found ways to harness it and provide insightful, valuable levels of service for clients. For example, combining satellite imagery to provide home measurements, as well as creating full 3D models and a cloud-based photo app, so the team can provide a wide range of pictures, findings, and recommendations to clients.
52 • June 2020
In their personal time, Brad and Heidi enjoy spending time with their two sons, Austin and Nolan, serving in their local church, swimming, watching movies, and boating as a family on the lake. With a passion for what they do, Brad and Heidi place a strong emphasis on continually pushing themselves – and their team – to learn and grow, so that their level of client service stays on the leading edge. For instance, investing time and money in industry-specific and personal development trainings, most recently Tony Robbins coaching for their organization – to succeed individually and collaboratively. Beyond training and technology, that commitment applies to good old-fashioned integrity and service. One example of this is the fact that High Performance Restoration is an honorary member of The Good Contractors List.
@realproducers
“I’VE BEEN IN THE HOME IMPROVEMENT SPACE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. HEIDI AND I ALWAYS WANTED TO WORK TOGETHER IN A BUSINESS.”

North DFW Real Producers • 53
As Brad says, “Being approved for The Good Contractor’s List is an added measure of quality, where this trusted organization has done its due diligence and vetted the contractors on the list. It’s kind of like an added warranty for clients; they provide a third-party $10,000 Guarantee to the homeowner, for the work being done by approved contractors.” From technology and convenience to service and varied solutions, High Performance Restoration is a growing source of innovation and service for clients under one roof. THE
McKissacks Integrity and Hard Work Brad McKissack spent his childhood in the Richardson/Garland area of Dallas. In 1982, Brad met his wife, Susan, and their journey together began. The couple grew up about a mile away from each other and attended the same schools. They met while Susan was a senior in high school and Brad was home from the University of North Texas. Brad and Susan couldn’t imagine settling elsewhere and chose to build their lives and raise their two sons, Brad and Chase, in the Dallas area. Before making his way in the real estate field, Brad began his career in the corporate branch of the food industry. He worked for two companies and obtained a role as a sales manager for Keebler. This position included oversight of the Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico markets, as well as routine travel to grow the division. Brad eventually found himself feeling frustrated as he built a business for someone else. “About that time in the mid-1990s, I had a sister-in-law and brother that were working in real estate. They would often invite me to come out with them and shadow them on their appointments. I enjoyed the experience, and controlling my income along with my time, was appealing.” In 1997, Brad obtained his real estate license and began selling in the Sachse, Murphy, and Plano area, where he and his family were living at the time. “Brad and Chase were much younger, and they would go out with me and Susan on Saturdays to walk neighborhoods and hang fliers.”

Recently, the group added another branch near Stephenville/Weatherford. As Brad’s sons watched their father grow his business, they couldn’t help but notice his success. From a young age, it was engrained in Chase and Brad Jr. that integrity and hard work were necessary for success. Brad Jr. shared, “Chase and I have had a fun pathway into real estate. We began to learn the business by stuffing 3,500 calendars each year and driving as a courier for the team, while we were in college and playing ball. These tasks led us both to getting our licenses so that we could begin working on lead generation, prospecting, and working with the sales team.” Chase had this to say about working with his dad: “He’s always been there to guide us and is not just a business owner…but a father. He demonstrates love and compassion and goes out of his way to guide us through life. I am so appreciative of what Mom and Dad both have done and sacrificed to give us the life that we have.” Brad Jr. added, “Dad has one of the kindest souls. He allows you to make mistakes; however, he allows you to learn from your mistakes, something that I want to pass down to my son. His overall being is real and genuine. He is there to love and support us – Mom is the same way.” For Brad, Susan, Brad Jr., and Chase, family and relationships are paramount. Time together is always a priority, and Brad and Susan’s Missouri lake house is a favorite place to reconnect and share memories. Brad Jr. has one son, Brooks (7), and the two love spending time with Brad Jr.’s girlfriend, Lindsay. Chase has been married to his wife, Haley, for six years, and the couple have two sons, Jacks (4) and Wells (1).

“It’s fun to watch my parents with the three grandsons. It’s so cool to watch your parents make an impact on your kids in the same way that they impacted you,” Brad Jr. said. We asked Chase what he likes most about being a dad and he replied, “I get a feeling of satisfaction waking up every day with my boys in my life and watching

my wife with them, as well. Haley is a blessing and an amazing mom.” The McKissack Realty Group has blended family and business seamlessly, and we couldn’t help but ask Brad if he had always envisioned his sons joining him and Susan in the business. He replied, “I’ve always
wanted them to pursue their individual goals and aspirations. I didn’t want them to feel as though they were expected to go into real estate. My objective was to teach them how to fish, not hand them a fish. I tried to show them that this was never going to be easy; you’ve got to get out there and make things happen. I know they will carry on and grow this business well past my time. They have made Susan and me really proud.”

THERMOMETER ORThriving THERMOSTAT? in Turbulent Times. a thermostat and set the temperature. Yes, there will be struggles. Yes, you should expect change. And yes, there may be outright chaos. These circumstances can be viewed as negative pressures, or you can join the small group of us that choose to see trials as a catalyst for progress. Six Keys to Being the Thermostat
1 “The only constant is change.” –Heraclitus The last weeks and months have been a bit like riding a goat through a tornado while being handed a crying baby...wild doesn’t even begin to describe it. And your people need you to lead them through this storm. Being in charge means your decisions impact your entire organization. Being the head of your household means you’re responsible for the welfare of your family. As a leader in any capacity, you have

a choice to make: Will you be a thermometer or thermostat? A thermometer simply tells you the temperature around you, whereas a thermostat dictates the temperature. So, you need to decide which you will be. Are you a “freaker” or a leader? A freaker looks at every random thermometer and freaks out at the numbers—the highs, the lows, the discrepancies. A leader decides to be
Look for opportunities.
Massive wealth was built during the Great Depression by those few who choose to look for and find the opportunities. What opportunities are being created?

You are a selffulfilling prophecy.
There is massive evidence to support the belief that what you think you will find is exactly what you find. Believe you will find ways to thrive or believe this is the end. You get to choose the outcome of each adventure.

Set the tone.
More than ever, it is necessary that you set the tone for your team. The words you use, the energy you bring, and what you choose to focus on will have a profound effect on the success or failure of your team. Be intentional and communicate with clarity.
4
Keep calm and carry on.
In our current environment, sticking to the fundamentals is more important than ever. This is not the time to slow down on lead generation or stop exercising. This is the time to double down.
5
Alyssa Hellman – Compass South Consulting “Talk about the opportunity vs. the outcry. Help people understand what they can leverage for a great deal!” “Keep doubled down on your foundational business practice.” “Spread care and compassion by being helpful at open houses: provide hand sanitizer and wipe down sign-in surfaces.” “And talk about rates. Money is almost free right now.”
Focus, then refocus.
Nothing is gained by focusing on what you can’t control. Without fail, you will find that winners focus on what they can control. What is within your control? What is your next right decision?

“Our agents are empowered to educate clients on the best options for now and the future.”
Thrive where others just survive.
You have survived all the other stuff that’s been thrown at you over the last two decades. It’s your time to thrive, to lead with purpose, to create the world you want. CHOOSE TO BE THE THERMOSTAT. Brandon Green – Brandon Green Ventures “Double down on managing distractions during business development hours.” “Make it a Covid-19 Free Zone from 8a.m.-12p.m. Seriously, no discussing it, no reading about it, no tweeting about it. Build the bunker around you required to advance your goals proactively. And enlist support from those around you.” “What I’m not doing is canceling or pulling back on my activities. What I’m not doing is buying extra supplies of anything. What I’m not doing is looking at anyone who sneezes with suspicion.” “In 1939, the British government was in preparation for WWII. No one could have predicted the horrors that were to come. But in all of that came the popular phrase, ‘Keep Calm and Carry On.’ If the British, in the face of WWII, were able to ‘Keep Calm and Carry On,’ I think we should endeavor to do the same and do our part to stop the unnecessary fear.” Bill Hart – Building Champions, Inc.
Advice on Thriving in the Next Several Months
“Control what you can control. There is no need to panic.” Nick Good – The Good Home Team “We’ve lived through Y2K, the Swine Flu in 2008, and SARS.” “I am preparing our agents. I am prepping my agents as if we are entering a recession – we need to make sure we take our lead generation to a whole new level.” “Let’s show buyers and sellers why now is that perfect storm to take advantage of this volatile market. Interest rates are stupid low, so first-time buyers have significant purchasing power. Homeowners who don’t want to sell should get with our preferred lender to do a refinance or maybe even a cash-out to pay off debt.”
