trust publisher’s note
First off, I would like to mention that as I am writing this publisher’s note, it is eight days before the ESPEs, and therefore, I currently have nothing to write about in regards to how that event went. Print media takes a little bit of time! We will have the ESPEs recap article in the January issue. Last night, I was sitting in the sauna at Cowboys Fit, and my mind started to go down the ole’ negative thought train as I started to think about the ESPEs. My thoughts went something like, “Did I order everything I need? Will it all arrive in time? What if I announce the winner, and they aren’t present? What if it’s 40 degrees and rainy? What if only 50% of the people registered show up? We are way over budget. Oh, shoot. I haven’t prepared my presentation yet…” Yikes. Anyone ever been down one of those rabbit holes? Most likely for me, that was not the first time that had happened that day. However, after a few minutes, I caught myself and I paused. I reminded myself that over the last three years, I have hosted upwards of 30 events and that after every single one of them, I said to myself, “That was an amazing event!” At minimum, I thought, “I am happy with how that went.”

So, in the 200-degree heat of the sauna, I thought to myself, “Why would this event be any different? Sure, it is the biggest event (by about double) that I have ever hosted and is the first time we have ever attempted anything quite like this. But, even so, I have nothing from my past experiences that have provided any evidence that this event won’t be a massive success.” And, with that thought, I relaxed. My mind settled, and I felt a sense of assurance come over me. I am going to be okay. What a good reminder for us all. No matter what we are going through in life … a relationship change, financial hardship, health issue (or hosting a big awards gala) … remember that after all you have been through, you are still here. You are okay. And whatever you are facing right now shall pass. So, relax. Feel the sense of peace and calm assurance come over you. Have faith. Trust. See you next year, y’all! JANSEN KLEFEKER GENUINE CARE The people who work with Jansen Klefeker care about what he knows, because they know that he is on their side each step of the way.
“After attending college for a time, I dropped out of school to pursue a career in the wine industry as a sommelier,” he remembers. “I did that for a few years, and then I met my wife.”
As founder of the J. Klefeker Group with Rogers Healy and Associates Real Estate, Jansen delivers genuine care to those around him.
At that point, Jansen remembers seeing things in a new way.
“My main goal when I work with someone is that they know that I empathize and find their struggles and that I want to help their goals come to life and happen,” Jansen says. “It’s more than a transaction. I want people to know that I care and am going to help them. For them to say, ‘He really took care of us.’” Finding His Path Jansen earned his real estate license four years ago. Like most of those who get their start in the business, Jansen had started on another path in life first.

“Meeting her and marrying her flipped everything upside down. I looked at the lives of married guys around me. I was ready to build a life for me and my family,” Jansen remembers. Returning to an Early Interest Real estate had always been on Jansen’s radar. “That went back to when I had been in my early 20s. I weighed the pros and cons objectively. I looked at if I could get out what I put in,” he says. “Real estate checked all the boxes, and I could do it while waiting tables.”

Jansen prepared himself for beginning his path in the business. “I realized it would be hard once I got my license and get off the ground. I’m not from Dallas. I knew people but didn’t have roots here. I spent six months working on a team and then tried working on my own for six months,” Jansen says. Opening New Doors Jansen took new steps ahead. “I wanted more for myself than the direction I had been going in. I got connected with Rogers Healy through a friend, and I joined him in January 2019,” Jansen remembers. “My goal was focusing on production. I had closed three deals in a year before that. It wasn’t working out. I built great connections in the industry.” During his first year working with Rogers Healy, Jansen earned Rookie of the Year honors and completed $5.5 million in sales volume. The next year, he followed that up with $11.7 million. In 2021, his production has continued to soar, with over $22 million.

In the process, the J. Klefeker Group has grown, as well. In fact, he has six agents and two fulltime employees. As Jansen reflects on his relatively young real estate career, he credits a couple of key components for gaining traction. “I think it’s two-fold… having longevity and sticking it out. It takes a lot of perseverance and sticking it out. Also, I had no plan B. I wasn’t going back to waiting tables,” Jansen says. “Everybody knows people who have tried this and then aren’t doing it. In time, as I stuck with it, I became the guy that people started reaching out to. I focused on what the greats are doing and adapted that for myself … I read 45 books and interviewed people and mentors … and then I simply asked for business.” Family Foundation Family is at the heart of life for Jansen. He treasures time with his wife, Olivia. “She is my rock. She has been the backbone of what I’ve been able to accomplish. She wasn’t afraid. She trusted that I had a decent idea on

I WASN’T GOING BACK TO WAITING TABLES. what we could make happen,” Jansen says. “She trusted me to put my money and time where I thought it needed to go. We lived off her income for the first couple of years. She has does a phenomenal job.” In his free time, Jansen is a big movie guy. He also has a passion for classic, antique cars and has his sights set on earning his pilot’s license. “Family time is big for me. Our families are here. We have 13 nieces and nephews,” he smiles. Jansen and his family are also very involved at Shoreline City Church. In addition, giving back to the community is a big part of life for Jansen. One of his favorite groups to support is A21, an organization that battles sex trafficking around the globe. Another favorite group to support is Our Calling, a group that rehabilitates the homeless and helps them get back on their feet. Congratulations to this month’s Rising Star, Jansen Klefeker. In fact, he has 24 years of tenure in the industry, including the past six months with the Lawyers Title team. Building strong bonds is something Jason enjoys and is very good at doing. “I like the interaction with people and being able to help them through the home buying and selling process,” he says. “I really love the fact that I have made a lot of lifelong friends over the years.” As Jason thinks about the dynamic of his team, he appreciates the family atmosphere that extends both within and outside of the office. Last year Jason enjoyed a very productive year. In fact, he recorded 900 closed files and nearly $3 million in revenue. Away from work, Jason looks forward to time with his spouse, Jeremy Guthrie. The two were married in March 2018 and have fun with their three dogs. In his free time, Jason has a love of all sports, as well as adventure, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. He also plays in both volleyball and softball leagues.

“While it was difficult to go through, I have the advantage of having a child that was very ill. It forced me to see things from a different perspective,” Becky explains. “Every day we meet people who are all going through different things. It would have been very easy when I was dealing with adversity to give up and quit but I had Jackson. He taught me to keep going. It was a profound belief that I could be successful.” Today, Jackson is a healthy high school student who enjoys playing soccer. Becky recalls the journey she and her family took to get there.

“It all added up to a change of focus for me. My time was needed at home to care for him. By the time we had a handle on his illness, I had to get back to work. Once I went back, I took with me a few different points,” Becky says. “One of those is the fact that time isn’t refundable. We have to be purposeful and intentional each day about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. I believe it has to come from a place of impacting other people.” As Becky tells her story, she focuses on the possibilities that are set in motion with the proper mindset. “That is something that Jackson really taught me. He is very wise,” she says with a smile. “He taught me that life isn’t something that happens to you. It happens for you. He never got caught in pity parties. He loved the game of soccer but wasn’t able to play at a younger age. As he got older he would play two days a week. Mindset determines what you can do.” LESSONS AND LEADERSHIP
That approach to life is something that Becky draws upon as part of her leadership role in the industry. She feels a deep sense of pride and responsibility in working with and mentoring the members of her firm. “When we embrace someone’s story and share it, that’s what creates connection. That’s what I see and how I see my role as a team lead. I get to impact people daily and weekly. I get to guide them and earn their trust as a leader. The fact that they give me an opportunity and trust me with their career is very special to me,” Becky says. “I try very hard to create a culture and bring in the

In addition to Jackson, Becky is thankful for her daughter, Olivia and the time all of them have together as a family. Recently, the decision was made to launch a new brokerage with owner Kris Goggans of Premier Properties Group, and Becky took some important lessons with her. “I take some of the things he has said with me … things like being committed, disciplined, and intentional every day,” Becky points out. “I have to learn to embrace failure and to learn from past mistakes. I think it’s also about being willing to fail forward and be thankful for both the failures and successes.” As Becky explains, the gift she received from Jackson was the spirit of resolve and resilience. “I have a career that I absolutely love and I am very proud of the next steps we are taking. We have created a space for people to come at any part of their career and belong and grow the way they want to grow. I wouldn’t be here in this position without what we went through with him,” Becky emphasizes. “I learned that a person needs just a few things to succeed. People 36 • December 2021
to believe in them, opportunities and habits, and people to guide them. Without commitment, discipline, and being intentional, nothing happens. This little boy is a warrior and he taught me a lot and now I’m going out to love on people and find their strengths and potential and help them become the best they can be.” @realproducers

FINDING OPPORTUNITY Jayant earned his real estate license in 2013, but his story started well before that when he moved from his home nation of India.
That’s the same skill that Jayant Malik puts to work each day for his clients. As a REALTOR® and the owner of BLU Global Realty, Jayant eases the way forward for them.
“In 2013, I bought my first house and planned on doing some investing. I decided to get my license and jump in. I was able to do it on a very fast track, completing one course a week and finishing the process in about six weeks.”
“The part that I love the most about my work in this business is helping other people,” Jayant emphasizes.
GETTING HIS START As he started his path in real estate, he worked part-time.
“Through the work we do, we feel we’re helping them to make the biggest purchase and investment of their lifetime. I like to give people suggestions. It’s a beautiful journey. If you work with people and make a smooth transaction for them, that’s what we are there for.”
From the start, Jayant felt he had made the right decision for himself.

“Before I got involved in real estate, being an Engineering graduate, I worked in IT,” he says.
“I was really loving it. I love talking and working with people who were buying their first houses. I was enjoying it a lot,” Jayant remembers.

In 2017, he decided to leave his IT career and pursue real estate full-time. “I got my broker’s license within a year, and I started my brokerage in 2019. That’s when BLU Global Realty began, a company whose first three letters represent my parents’ initials and their blessings,” he smiles. SIGNS OF SUCCESS Today, Jayant has three other team members working with him and is thankful to each one of them for the significant rise in business and targeted goal achievement. In addition to residential and commercial work, Jayant also provides property management services. The results have been rewarding all the way around. In fact, in 2020, they recorded $10 million in sales volume between the residential and commercial side of the business. This year, they expect to surpass $20 million in sales volume. TREASURED FAMILY TIME Away from work, Jayant treasures time spent with his family, including his wife, Sneha, and their two children — 21-year-old daughter, Dhaarna, who is a finance major in McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, and their 15-year-old son, Krish, a 10th grader. In addition, life is made richer by the fact that Jayant’s mother, Usha, lives in the same house. “My family has been a fantastic strength for me. I have had great support from my wife. She helps me a lot,” he says. “She takes care of so many things and has supported me all the way. So have my kids.” In his free time, Jayant loves being with his family. Travel is a big passion, with favorites being trips to Cancun and cruises. Jayant and his family also like to explore local restaurants and watch movies together. “It’s very important that our clients have faith and full trust in us. We work on their behalf to look out for their interests. I am in real estate because I love working with and serving people,” he says. “In addition, I try to communicate and build relationships with the agents on the other side of the transaction, to do more business in the future with them.” A big part of what Jayant does is delivering value to his clients. “When I get referrals from someone, that feels so good. It means we have done a great job for someone, and they have trust that we will do our best for others to get them their dream houses,” he says. “We work with clients to help them make the selections that are best for them. I have some clients who are buying multiple properties with us. We give them names of contractors and other resources they can work with. I am very honest with people and give them the real picture engaging with them at every stage. We are always thankful to each one of our existing clients and look forward to working with many more. Another big bonus is having someone like Brandee Escalante on your side. In the process of helping others, Brandee draws on her own start in the business. “Out of college, I got a job in property management and was a Leasing Specialist after working as a top Leasing Agent. The company I worked for approached me and asked if I would be willing to get my real estate license. They offered to pay for it, so I could sell condo conversions with them.” Brandee took them up on the offer in 1999. Her work in the business was clearly a natural fit. “Once I got out of school, I did a couple of condo conversions and sold 136 units in a little less than a year. From there, I moved to another project and realized I really liked the listing and selling side,” she recalls. From there, Brandee joined Keller Williams, where she flourished for 18 years, including several while building her own team. Four years ago, she switched to eXp Realty.

Last year, Brandee’s team closed a little over $63 million in sales volume on 172 deals. This year their goal was $70 million. They’ve far exceeded that number and have since been working toward a new goal of $100 million.
Brandee and Jerrod look forward to time spent with their four children — 24-year-old, Ashlie, 17-year-old twins, Avery and Andrew; and 14-year-old, Adam.
“We have such a great group of people,” Brandee says. “One of those is my best friend, Whitney Aguirre. She has been with me since the Keller Williams days and made the switch with me to eXp Realty. She is my training coordinator. Without her, I would not have been able to build the team I have.”

In her free time, Brandee likes supporting her children in their activities. She also has a passion for traveling and spending quality time at the family’s lake house. “When I go there, I walk in the door and disconnect. That’s my sport for my mental health and relaxation,” she says. “We had a big team-building event at the lake recently that was fun. We have a really close-knit group … like a little family itself.”

When it comes to giving back, Brandee and her team support Amanda House and the local food bank, too. ENCOURAGING EXCELLENCE
As Brandee considers the love she has for helping others, she offers advice for those who want to move forward in their own real estate careers. “You can get really run down in this business. It’s a 24/7 job, but it’s the most rewarding job ever. With that in mind, it’s important to focus on taking time for yourself to recharge. If not, you won’t be a good agent for clients,” Brandee
says. “We have to be the person who stays calm and serves as an advocate for clients. When we take time to be the best version of ourselves, we can help others achieve their dreams. Also, it’s important to educate yourself to be the expert for your clients.” Day-by-day, Brandee puts her selfless spirit of achievement to work for others. “The biggest compliment I can receive is when agents say they love our family environment, along with the training and support. I have very low turnover. The fact that team members don’t just take what they need and leave means a lot to me.”
