THE POWER OF

Connection As you would probably guess, I am a bit biased towards the Real Producers platform. As the owner, it makes perfect sense. But one of the reasons I genuinely love Real Producers is because we are built on the foundation of connections and relationships. And I think we can all agree that in our digitalized, pandemic, lock-down world that we need, more than ever before, genuine connections and relationships.

On March 25th, we had our Dallas Real Producers event at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas, and on April 1st, we had our North DFW Real Producers event at Andretti’s in The Colony. Our events have always been special, but there was something about these last two events that really felt different…it felt even more personal.

And the reason for this, I believe, is Covid. This past year of being

socially distanced, and glued to our technology, had countless negative consequences. However, it also gave us the beautiful gift of remembering the importance, and the value, that face-to-face connection brings.

Real people. Humans in the flesh.

Something we once took for granted is now something that we cherish in a much deeper way.

This need and desire that we have for human connection were palpable at our last events. Smiles were bigger, conversations were louder, handshakes and hugs were firmer. The power and need for connection has never been more clear to me.

and celebrating our collective success. We shared stories, networked, and reignited old relationships. Most importantly, we did it face-to-face and not behind a screen.

The power of connection is real. It is all of you that make Real Producers what it is. The relationships you build through our magazine and events are what make this platform special.

FIRST STEPS

Julie earned her license in 2004 but definitely had an early glimpse of the industry.

“My mom was a Top Producer in the Detroit suburbs when I was a child,” Julie says. “I grew up in the business, helping her with mailings and going to appointments. I didn’t realize that would eventually lead me on my own path.”

Julie graduated with a sports marketing degree, then worked in New York, followed by a move to Dallas. During the process of house-hunting, the neighborhood expert encouraged her to consider a real estate career herself.

“She told me, ‘Go get your license, and I’ll give you a job,’” Julie recalls. “I was pregnant with twins, I got my license, and worked with her for three years. She helped me learn the industry one-onone. Just as I was ready to go and start my own business, Lauren and I met.”

Through time, Lauren had a lot of experience in real estate when it came to moving.

“I grew up moving several times. My dad’s job took us to many different cities, so looking for houses was something I was used to,” Lauren remembers.

She attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate degree, then earned her master’s

in speech pathology from George Washington University.

“During my last semester of graduate school, I met my husband who was born and raised in Dallas. After graduating, I got my first job in a rehab facility for traumatic brain injury patients,” she said. “I quickly realized this career choice was going to be difficult for a working mom, so I decided to get my real estate license in 2007.”

JOINING FORCES

Some things happen for a reason. And that’s definitely the case when Julie and Lauren decided to join forces as real estate partners.

“Julie and I ran in similar circles since our husbands knew each other. So, I went to the same brokerage where Julie was,” Lauren says. “That first day, Julie said, ‘Let’s go get lunch.’ After recognizing what it was going to take to build a successful business, service our clients diligently, and raise our young children, we decided to team up. We set aside our egos, and we got to work immediately.”

Each day, Lauren and Julie knew they could count on each other.

As Julie says, “At the beginning, when we were showing a home to a client, we would drop the kids and one of us at a park, and then the other would get in the car with the clients to go look at houses in the area.”

Today, Julie and Lauren still count on each other, but now they rely on each other for support to their clients’ needs and commitments to the success of their business. Their record of results has continued to grow through 20 • May 2021

time. In fact, they average around $25 million in sales volume a year.

Family is at the heart of life for both ladies.

Julie and her husband, Gary, enjoy spending time with their twin 17-year-old daughters, Izzie and Kaya, and their 15-year-old son, Eli.

Lauren and her husband, Joe, relish in the moments with their sons — 13-year-old, Jacob, and 11-year-old, Cooper.

Lauren, Julie, and their families form a cohesive larger family.

As Julie emphasizes, “Lauren and I are like sisters. We work out together early in the morning. We work together during the day, and we go out together with friends on the weekends. Our kids and our husbands are all close, like one big family. When the recent winter storm hit Texas and we lost power, Lauren would have it no other way than to welcome us into her home. We were there for three nights, and we had so much fun! It’s such a cool experience to work with my best friend who feels more like a sister.”

In their free time, Julie and Lauren are both involved with Dallas public schools, as well as the local Jewish community. Julie has been on multiple boards and is currently the women’s philanthropy campaign chair for the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas. I love this organization so much, because it’s the umbrella that assists the entire Jewish community throughout Dallas and around the world.

Lauren serves on the Board of Directors for the Jewish Community Center of Dallas. In addition, she also served on the

Board of Directors for Temple Emanuel, where she’s still involved with the organization’s annual campaign.

GRATITUDE AND GIVING

Lauren and Julie feel immense gratitude for their brokerage.

“We’ve been at Allie Beth Allman and Associates for just over two years, and we absolutely love it,” Lauren says.

Tarrant Roofing does a lot for DFW and the surrounding counties.

Sure, they are tops for roofing (pun intended), having been given top honors by readers of Fort Worth Inc. Magazine as Best Roofing Company three years in a row. What you may not know as much about is how they do it and how good they are for our community in other ways.

Behind this legacy company that serves all of our DFW area is founder Danny Leverett. Danny is born-andraised Tarrant. A serial entrepreneur, he has a handful of businesses in our area creating career opportunities for more than 100 of our neighbors.

As a matter of fact, TRT and CPR have helped hundreds of local homeowners revitalize their homes. “During the holidays we take kids in need Christmas shopping and make sure they have needs met,” says D’Sha. “Danny has a special place in his heart for kids, and he actively takes steps to help them.”

What will 2021 look like for TRT? “We’re going to offer more and do more to continue to provide agents a one-stop shop for roof-related restoration,” answers D’Sha. “About 80% of our referrals continue to come from our real estate clients. People like that

hen clients first get acquainted with Kimi Buchler, a REALTOR® with Pinnacle Realty Advisors, they see a phrase that has become an integral part of her branding … Expect Fabulousness.

While that is an effective way to describe the experience that Kimi hopes her clients have with her, it also describes her positive spark and forward-thinking approach to life that has created results in her own life, as well.

“In general in the world today, sometimes we stop having expectations,” Kimi says. “That’s not okay. We should have expectations of ourselves and each other. And when we aren’t giving our best, we should hear from each other.

It’s a lot easier to push yourself when you’ve got someone looking at you and expecting you to push yourself.”

Finding Her Path

Before earning her real estate license, Kimi worked in outside sales for a company. But in time, Kimi’s path in real estate seemed to reveal itself.

“I got pregnant with our first daughter,” she recalls.

“I always knew I wanted to work after I had kids. But it was hard to balance. My mother had her real estate license and my dad had his mortgage broker license, so it organically happened.”

In 2008, as the economy took a major hit, Kimi and her family felt the fallout.

“It really changed a bunch of stuff for my husband and me.

His industry was affected, as well. It put us in a different financial situation,” she remembers. “That brought us to Dallas for my husband’s work.”

At the time, Kimi and her husband had one child in kindergarten, along with a baby.

“The real estate market wasn’t great at that time. So, I stayed home and took care of the children until my youngest daughter was in first grade,” Kimi says. “At that point, my husband and I were still recovering from the financial hurt of 2008. I knew I needed money to go to real estate school.”

Kimi took action with a solution.

Away from work, Kimi treasures time with her husband, Michael, and their two daughters — 18-yearold Avery and 15-year-old Ainsley.

“I started cleaning houses and that’s what I did to gather money to go to real estate school. It was a difficult moment in my life. We found ourselves in a tough situation, but I always knew that real estate was the answer for my family, because I’ve seen how one great real estate deal changes a family’s financial situation. I knew real estate was it for me.”

In her free time, Kimi enjoys an active lifestyle.

In fact, she and Michael used to be half-marathon runners, and their date nights were long runs on the weekends. These days, they have a passion for biking together. They also like to support their daughters’ activities.

Since earning her license, Kimi has steadily built on her reputation for problem-solving and results.

She’s quick to shine the light on others.

“Another favorite for me is reading, sitting outside by my pool, listening to music, and drinking a cup of coffee,” Kimi says.

“I love to work. I always want to be the best at whatever I do. It was a struggle for me to find the balance. I wanted to hit it hard but had kids at home,” she explains. “My husband and kids have been so great about that. Sometimes I would show houses with them in the car. With their support, I was able to dedicate myself to my work and feed the pipeline. My kids folded fliers for me. Our whole family wanted to change our lives so bad, so we were all in. That’s what made it easier to dedicate myself to my business. My tribe — my people — wanted it just as bad as I did.”

She also enjoys walks with their two dogs … as well as getting away on trips. Past favorite destinations have been cruises and trips to Disney.

Giving back is also a central part of Kimi’s world.

Favorite local groups to support include dog rescue organizations.

Positive Spark

When you talk with Kimi, you sense the authenticity and genuine sense of care that she brings to those around her.

“I’ve been in sales and marketing for years, and it just seemed that real estate was the natural progression for me,” Phil says.

“My past careers were lucrative, but they seemed like just a job. I found my passion in this business.”

GETTING HIS START

Phil was born and raised in Indiana. After high school, he attended Indiana University where he earned a B.A. degree.

Over the next several years, Phil worked in Chicago. In 1999, he moved to Detroit.

Through time, he worked in the technology department at Chicago Title.

“I worked for them for three years, traveling around the U.S., installing systems that would help escrow officers close deals,” Phil recalls.

In 2003, Phil and his partner, Duane Draper, sold their Michigan home and moved to Dallas. He enjoyed the process very much.

“I left my job in technology and moved to Dallas without a job and got my real estate license,” Phil remembers. “We didn’t know 42 • May 2021

anybody, so it was hard to build a relationship-based business, and I didn’t know the Dallas market.”

Yet Phil found he had vital advantages from his career that he was able to bring with him to the real estate arena.

“What helped me was I had a technology background, and I could see what

was happening with the new real estate firms like Compass and online companies such as Zillow,” he says.

“I had that technology background, and had managed pipelines, and would run lead-generation campaigns to drive business. I sold technology to large corporations. I was always doing research and finding out what platforms they were doing.” @realproducers

After starting his career as an independent, Phil formed H Group in 2010. In 2014, he added his first-team member.

As he says, “Trust is a really big thing for me. As we have added members through time, I make sure that we all get along and we work well together. It happens over time for me. It’s an evolution.”

Phil dove into Dallas, spending a few months building his marketing plan, getting to know the neighborhoods and immersing himself in any way he could.

“I approached for-sale-by-owner listings, farmed areas, and conducted small marketing campaigns,” he explains. “I’ve always been a planner.

I’m pretty meticulous and always have a plan. I set goals for myself and apply a marketing strategy. That kept me focused. I’ve always found that if I put goals in place, it just keeps me on target … forcing me to get up every

Away from work, Phil and Duane enjoy time spent at their Cedar Creek Lake house. They also lead an active life … walking, riding bikes, and traveling.

Phil and Duane also have a passion for being involved and giving back to the community. Phil has led a number of networking groups through time and gets involved with charity efforts and groups, such as Hunger Busters.

“Networking is also giving back in a business way, too. Having worked with networking groups for so long, it’s part of helping other small businesses achieve their goals to be successful,” Phil points out. “It’s part of giving back to our colleagues and helping each other build their small businesses.”

PASSION FOR THE PROFESSION

Phil has a true love for the industry. He brings his sense of teamwork and professionalism to all of his contacts.

“Providing great customer service to clients is key, but also having mutual respect with fellow real estate agents is very important,” Phil says. “I always try to have a smooth, professional transaction with my colleagues. I believe in respect of fellow real estate agents and maintaining strong relationships with other agents.”

The sense of gratitude Phil brings to his work each day is clear.

FAQs ABOUT THIS MAGAZINE Real Producers magazine started in Indianapolis in 2015 and is now in over 100 markets across the nation and spreading rapidly. Dallas Real Producers launched in May of 2019. Name a large city and we are there or will be soon!

In every market, we take the Top 500 agents, based off of the MLS production, and we build an exclusive magazine around those agents. We share their stories, successes, market trends, upcoming events — really, anything that will connect, inform and inspire, we put in the monthly publication.

A: North DFW Real Producers launched in August of 2018 for the agents who are North of 635 (North tip of Dallas County, Collin County, and Denton County).
